Riddles, proverbs and sayings are an ancient form of oral folk art. They convey the attitude of people to the world around them, express the wisdom accumulated over the centuries. Figures played a significant role in the formation of these folklore genres.

Any riddle is based on a metaphor. This remedy artistic expressiveness, involving the description of any qualities of an object or phenomenon by means of other objects or phenomena. Remember the well-known riddles about the night and the stars, where the sky is a blue canvas, and the stars are small carnations with which it is nailed. Indeed, if you look at the sky at night, the stars can be compared to nail heads.

Consider what comparisons riddles for children about numbers are based on. The most common number in folklore is seven. This is a sacred number, and the idea of ​​​​harmony, the ideal is associated with it.

So, seven is compared with a scythe, which mowed hay. Eight is very similar to a tumbler, because the number consists of two circles placed on top of each other. The two are often compared and drawn as a swan with its neck bent. Zero is very similar to a donut or a ball, and six and nine always act as twins.

These two words are often used together, although the two genres differ in their role.

The task of the proverb is to teach, instruct. That is why you will always find evaluative words in it, for example: "It is easy to rake in the heat with the wrong hands." The proverb emphasizes that a person seeks to do something at the expense of another, and condemns such behavior. But the saying may sound almost the same, but do not give an assessment, but only state a fact: “To rake in the heat with the wrong hands.” This is the main difference between sayings and proverbs.

For children, proverbs and sayings are often presented in pictures if we are talking about about teaching aids or children's books. This makes it easier for children to understand the meaning of the statement. Yes, and picture books always looked more interesting.

Quite often, the number seven is found in proverbs and sayings, for example: "Measure seven times - cut once." This meant that it was necessary to prepare well for work, and then do it. Seven is a number denoting harmony, an ideal. The number two is also often found in folklore: it is associated with family well-being, fraternal feelings: "Two pair of boots."

Children often do not understand hidden meaning proverbs and sayings, so the task of adults is to explain to them this hidden meaning and make it clear that statements carry not only direct, but also figurative meaning.

This research is devoted to the study of proverbs and sayings that use numbers.

Knowledge of proverbs and sayings makes us wiser, warns against mistakes. In proverbs there is always a conclusion that is useful for everyone to remember. Many actions of people can be interpreted in accordance with proverbs. If a person and proverbs are interconnected, then proverbs play an instructive role in a person's life.

When studying Russian folklore in the course of literary reading, we noticed that in folk tales, riddles, counting rhymes, proverbs and sayings often use numbers. So, our textbook Literary reading” Sviridova Victoria Yuryevna, after getting acquainted with different literary genres, there are questions and tasks: “Speaking of a fairy tale, do not forget about magic numbers” (after reading the fairy tale by Vladimir Ivanovich Dal “The old man-year-old”, “Does the flower have seven petals by chance?” (after reading the fairy tale by Valentin Kataev “The Seven-Flower Flower”), in the chapter “We are following unknown traces ...”, our attention is drawn to the signs of a fairy tale, one of which is called magic numbers, tasks are offered: “Find a passage in a fairy tale related to numbers”, “Observe , what role does the number “three” play in a fairy tale, “How many times have transformations occurred in a fairy tale?”, “What magic numbers have you met in other works?” This question led to the search for numbers in different literary genres. We found fairy tales, riddles, fables, but we were more interested in proverbs and sayings.

We meet with proverbs and sayings in the Russian language lessons, use them when compiling texts, and select them to create collective thematic projects. Knowledge of proverbs and sayings helps to better understand the language and character of the people.

We live in the Republic of Bashkortostan and have a unique opportunity to study not only the Russian language, but also the Bashkir language, culture and traditions of the Bashkir people.

When choosing proverbs and sayings containing numbers, questions arose:

Why are numbers reflected in proverbs and sayings?

- What is their role in oral folk art?

- Does the meaning of numbers in proverbs and sayings in Russian and Bashkir languages ​​coincide?

Target research consists in identifying the features of the use of numbers in proverbs and sayings.

Tasks:

2) collect information about the symbolism of numbers;

3) to establish the features of numbers in proverbs and sayings of Russian and Bashkir folklore;

4) analyze the frequency of using numbers in proverbs and sayings;

5) systematize proverbs with numbers.

Hypothesis: proverbs with numbers 1, 2, 3 are the most common, numbers in proverbs and sayings in different languages ​​have a hidden meaning, special meaning.

Our ancestors lived in tribes. They wandered through the fields and forests, along the valleys of rivers and streams in search of food: they fished, hunted. They dressed in the skins of dead animals. The life of primitive people was not much different from the life of animals. watching surrounding nature, on which his life completely depended, our distant ancestor first learned to isolate individual objects from many different objects. From a pack of wolves - the leader of the pack, from a herd of deer - one deer, from an ear with grains - one grain. At first, they defined this ratio as "one" and "many".

In ancient times, some numbers were associated with ideas about surrounding objects, such as the Moon, the Sun, hands, fingers, feet, etc. Frequent observations of paired objects (eyes, ears, horns, wings, hands) led a person to the idea of the number "two". Our distant ancestor, talking about seeing two ducks, compared them with a pair of eyes. And if he saw more of them, he said: “A lot” (Know a lot, but speak little. People noticed that all the world is subject to the laws of numbers and began to think and look for keys to understanding them. One of the most ancient sciences appeared - numerology, which explains numerical patterns, proves that each number has special properties. Pythagoras and Plato stood at the origins of numerology, Leonardo da Vinci, Nostradamus, Mendeleev, Korolev and many other geniuses of mankind were engaged in it.

The greatest wealth of a people is its language! Bit by bit, countless treasures of human thought and experience accumulate and live forever in the word.

For centuries, people have been creating and keeping wise sayings - proverbs and sayings. In them, from generation to generation, the main ideas about life were transmitted. They reflect its culture, working conditions, way of life, attitude to the world.

Peoples with number systems have a need to convey ideas about numbers using proverbs and sayings.

Proverbs and sayings are a widespread genre of oral folk art. They have been accompanying people since ancient times. exact rhyme, simple form, brevity made proverbs and sayings memorable and necessary in speech. Proverbs and sayings are firmly embedded in the memory, their memorization is facilitated by various consonances, rhymes.

What is a proverb and what is a saying?

A proverb is a wise, instructive saying, expressing in short form a generalized thought, a thought verified by everyday experience, age-old life observations of many generations.

Each word in the proverb is weighty, meaningful and accurate. The Bashkirs call the proverb "məkəl" (in translation it means "a word spoken to the place").

A proverb is always instructive. It always has a conclusion that is useful for everyone to remember. The proverb is “the wisdom of many, the wit of one” (Bertrand Russell).

Vladimir Ivanovich Dal, compiler explanatory dictionary of the living Great Russian language", wrote that the proverb "is the color of the people's mind, this is the everyday folk truth." In his collection "Proverbs of the Russian people" there are more than proverbs and sayings in 178 directions in different topics: Motherland and home, friendship, word and teaching, work and skill, family and upbringing, boasting, courage, honor and human dignity, appearance.

Mikhail Sholokhov called the proverb "clumps of reason", "winged wisdom".

The saying is close to the proverb in terms of genre - item (əitem). It, like a proverb, is remembered by the word, often used in figurative meaning, notices the essence of objects, phenomena and gives them a figurative description. But a saying, unlike a proverb, does not contain a generalizing meaning, but figuratively, in most cases allegorically defines an object or phenomenon.

Proverbs arose in ancient society, when it was not possible to save a thought - to write it down. Therefore, life, labor experience, worldly observations were fixed in verbal formulas. In proverbs and sayings, the rules of human society, the norms of society, as unwritten laws and rules, were also preserved.

I.3. What do we know about numbers in proverbs and sayings?

Proverbs and sayings in modern language remain alive folklore genres: they are constantly found in our everyday speech.

How many proverbs and sayings do we know that contain numbers? Do we use them actively in our speech, as they said “to the point”?

A survey of classmates helped to find out that most of the students in my 2nd grade know proverbs and sayings with numbers, and most often they name proverbs with numbers 1, 2, 7.

They gave such examples of proverbs with numbers:

- One in the field is not a warrior - 5 people.

- One leg here, the other there - 7 people.

- Bend into three deaths - 1 person.

- Seven do not wait for one - 9 people.

- Measure seven times, cut once - 13 people.

- Do not have a hundred rubles, but have a hundred friends - 8 people.

- It is better to see once than hear a hundred times - 3 people.

During the study, new questions arose:

Why did the guys name the proverbs with these numbers? Will there be other numbers in proverbs? Does each nation have its own set of numbers in proverbs?

We decided to search for such proverbs. Classmates and our parents actively joined the search.

We have analyzed various sources literature, this made it possible to collect groups of proverbs with numbers, to try to understand secret meaning numbers in the text of a proverb or saying.

II. Magic numbers in the works of oral folk art

II. 1. Proverbs and sayings containing the number 1

We found out that in proverbs and sayings the word "one" is often found.

However, there are few proverbs where the number “one” means something indivisible, integral, such as God, Cosmos, the Universe (One spring in the Motherland is better than a hundred springs in a foreign land. One is like a month in a field).

IN Bashkir the meaning of integrity, perfection, conveyed by the number of ber “one”, was reflected in the expressions үҙе ber ғүmer “whole life”, ber botөn donya “the whole world”, ber tigan “very good, the best”.

The number "one", as a rule, denotes the beginning, something unique, something very small, but very significant, important.

The numeral bi:r "one", which is in the Turkic languages, is associated by scientists with the Mongolian pronoun büri "everything, everything, everyone", with the pronoun bir/bär "this one", which indicates close objects.

In the Turkic languages, scientists associate üč ‘three’ with the concepts of “end, peak, point”, “small, a little”, “break, divide into pieces, parts”.

In the most ancient ideas of the Bashkirs, the number өс "three" meant the division of space into the world of the underworld, earth and heaven. These ideas coincide with the ideas of many peoples.

The number "five" is the middle of the first ten numbers, it is considered lucky number, symbolizes the search and self-improvement, possibly represents the five human senses: sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste. It is known that among the people the number "six" is associated with evil spirit, therefore, in proverbs, sayings, the six is ​​almost never mentioned.

The number seven is often found in Russian proverbs and sayings, in proverbs, sayings and fairy tales of other nations.

The multiplicity of all these sevens can have two explanations.

First, in tradition Ancient Rus' the number "seven" was used in witchcraft and spells, it was considered magical, magical, having a mysterious meaning.

Secondly, the decimal count, which is now used by people all over the globe, was not always the only one. There was once a septenary, and an octal, and a five-fold account, that is, they counted not in tens, but in sevens, or eights, or fives.

"Seven" is already "a lot". Apparently, this is why there are so many proverbs with the number "seven" in the meaning of "many". In ancient times, this number was considered an indefinitely large number for a long time.

The Christian religion attaches great importance to the number seven. "God created the world in 7 days" by devoting the seventh day to rest. In the work, we considered not only Russian folklore, but also Bashkir proverbs and sayings. Bashkir proverbs capture the history, culture and traditions of the people.

The results of the conducted studies confirm the fallacy of the accepted hypothesis. We assumed that proverbs with numbers 1, 2, 3 are the most common.

As a result of the study, we saw that the most proverbs with the number 1. Proverbs with the number 7 are in second place. Proverbs with the number 2 are in third place. These are the "favorite" numbers of the Russian people.

Even numbers - two, four, six, eight - are much less common. As we found out, this is due to the superstitious notion that an even number is associated with death.

There are features in the use of numbers in Bashkir proverbs. So, you can often find proverbs and sayings with numerals ber “one”, ike “two”, her “three”, bish “five”, et “seven”, kyrk “forty”, ye? "hundred", men "thousand".

Although, according to scientists, proverb main word, rather than the numbers it uses, the numbers act as symbols.

Why are the numbers 1, 7 and 2 the most common in proverbs and sayings?

Even Pythagoras and his like-minded people put the unit above all other numbers, believing that it was she who began all beginnings, that it was from her that the whole world went. And, it is true, the simplest calculus would not have taken place without unity. The unit is a symbol of glory and power, action and ambition.

We learned that in ancient times the seven was surrounded by great honor. Echoes of the veneration of this number have survived to this day in proverbs and sayings. Once the number "seven" was used in the meaning of "everything", which is confirmed by the proverbs "Seven do not expect one", "Onion from seven ailments". Even in ancient Babylon, seven planets were known, to which both the Sun and the Moon were then ranked. All incomprehensible phenomena of nature were attributed to the gods, and gradually the idea of ​​the gods was united with the seven planets. They began to count time. Thus the seven-day week was born. The names of the days of the week are associated with the names of the gods. Seven became a sacred number. It was considered magical. And it is no coincidence that there are seven colors in the rainbow and seven wonders of the world in the world. Often, healers gave the patient seven different medicines, infused with seven herbs, and advised him to drink them for seven days. This magical number seven was widely used in fairy tales and myths of the ancient world.

According to the ancient Greeks, the number two is a symbol of love and impermanence, all the time is in search of balance. The number two is softness and tact, the desire to smooth out sharp corners. It is between light and darkness, good and evil, heat and cold, wealth and poverty.

In our work, we studied proverbs, sayings that contain numbers. We analyzed the literature in order to identify proverbs with numbers and systematized them. We found out the proverbs with what numbers are in the first place, in the second and in the third. We determined which numbers folk wisdom devoted more proverbs to.

We believe that the materials of our study can be useful when conducting extracurricular activities with schoolchildren in mathematics to develop interest in the subject.

Questionnaire

We learned a lot of proverbs and sayings with numbers from the literature. Questioning of schoolchildren, teachers and parents made it possible to find out the opinions of children and adults on the proposed questions.

In order to study the chosen topic, we organized a study on the basis of the 2nd grade of the MAOU "Gymnasium No. 4" of the urban district of Sterlitamak, RB.

To identify schoolchildren's ideas about the role of proverbs, a survey was conducted of 57 people - children and adults.

Each of them was asked to answer the question "Is it necessary to know proverbs"?

The responses look like this:

"No" - 5 people.

We offered to remember proverbs and sayings with numbers.

The students did not immediately remember the proverbs with numbers, but soon all classmates joined in the search for literary material.

Note that most often in the answers of schoolchildren there are proverbs with

The largest collection of "Proverbs of the Russian people" by Vladimir Ivanovich Dahl, in which more than 30,000 proverbs and sayings, contains 178 categories on various topics: Motherland and home, friendship, word and teaching, work and skill, family and education, boasting, courage, honor and human dignity, appearance.
