On August 11-12, 2018, the Sheremetev Palace - Museum of Music will host the ethnic festival "Music of the World" for the third time. The holiday gathers on the territory of a unique estates XVIII century in the very center of St. Petersburg of the best ethno-musicians from St. Petersburg and Moscow, Tyva, Bashkortostan, Karelia, other Russian regions and neighboring countries. The heroes of the festival perform traditional music in ethno-rock, ethno-jazz and ethno-electronic sound.
This year, the festival of ethnic music in the very center of St. Petersburg will spread on both sides of the old estate of the XVIII century - in the front yard and in the garden of the Fountain House, Sheremetev Palace. In the Fountain the garden will pass two-day outdoor concert marathon. The front yard will host national yurts and chums, a tent of ethnic instrument makers, a fair and a whole cascade of children's master classes. The Sheremetev Palace itself will host creative meetings with unique musicians - the headliners of the festival, as well as interactive tours of the collection musical instruments, which is kept by the Museum of Theater and Musical Art.
The ethnic festival "Music of the World" in 2018 trusted its listeners: it was they who, along with the high jury, chose the participants of the concert marathon in an open competition, voting in social networks for their favorites. The winners of the competition will perform on the big stage together with the famous masters of the genre.
On August 11, the winners will perform on the big stage open competition- the Khoomei Beat group (Kyzyl, Tyva), which is rapidly entering the clip of the most sought-after musicians, the Soima group (Veliky Novgorod), which interprets Kalmyk and North Russian folklore in a peculiar way, as well as the cheerful and lively Belarusian folk group Altanka (Minsk) . The famous Karelian band Sattuma will also perform on the big stage.

On August 12, the winners of the audience voting of the Open Competition, the well-known St. Petersburg bands Ingervala (ex - Trelligh) and Wind to Everyone, will perform at the Sheremetev Palace. Full-fledged concerts on the big stage will be given by the brilliant ethno-jazz Moscow project Seven Eight Band (Grand Prix of the Russian World Music Awards 2017) and famous band from Bashkortostan "Argymak" (Ufa) with the participation of the unique master of throat singing Cheynesh Baitushkina (Gorno-Altaisk).
The festival of ethnic music is not only two concert marathons. These are creative meetings and master classes with musicians who play exotic instruments and craftsmen who make these instruments. These are games, dances, poetry, cuisine and arts and crafts of different nations, entertaining and instructive activities for children and adults, sessions of collective improvisation on ethnic instruments and much more.
The organizer of the festival, the St. Petersburg Museum of Theater and Musical Art, owns one of the five largest collections of musical instruments in the world. At the Music of the World festival, ethnic instruments will sound in full voice - both on stage and during interactive tours of the museum exposition.

From 12 o'clock in the morning, an ethnic festival called Bambooq opened its doors to everyone (who bought a ticket or was ready to do it on the spot). The guests were greeted by unusual music, which seemed to inform the guests that from now on you are in the territory of a large tribe, which is happy to show you and tell you what art they develop, what music they sing or play, and how they spend their time.
In fact, when I got acquainted with the festival program the day before the event, I expected to see an area much larger than the real one. In reality it was Big hall on the second floor, where there was a stage for music and dance performances, and two walk-through rooms on the right and left sides, where they showed and sold jewelry from different “tribes and peoples”, offered to drink unusual green or black tea and help the animal shelter.
There was also a basement with three rooms, one of which was called a bit pathetically - "lounge area", where they provided massage or aromatherapy services all day. Lectures and master classes were held in other rooms. And the last “zone” is the courtyard, where groups representing various ethnic cultures also performed.
I think that the organizers did their best, since the premises themselves did not offer such cozy and nice rooms. The organizers and volunteers themselves came up with the interior and created the comfort of all the “zones”. By the way, there were enough volunteers for such an area. It was nice to be anywhere. Even the smell was thought out: the unique aroma of incense and real green tea complemented the atmosphere of relaxation and pleasure. It made me want to sit down and start meditating.

The very idea of the festival, according to the art director of this event Georgy Chernov, was to bring people together. « This is an ethnic festival, and modern people also an ethnos , says George. Georgy Chernov became interested in ethnic music 5 years ago. After 4 years, he founded his own cajon school "Po Cahontas", where he teaches how to play the cajon.
