Vasily Smolentsev left Kalinov Bridge. "Kalinov bridge" now

"Kalinov Most" is a legendary Siberian rock band (the city of Novosibirsk is considered the birthplace of the group itself, while the cradle of the band's leader and songwriter - Dmitry Revyakin - can be considered Transbaikalia, where he spent his childhood and where he still draws his vitality and creativity) . musical style The group is most often defined by journalists as folk-rock. Of course, this is very conditional. And the musicians themselves have repeatedly rejected this label. "Kalinov Most", like any truly creative and original group, does not fit into the framework of any well-known style, and if you give a definition to their songs, then only "Kalinovomostovskie". Or just songs. Revyakin himself is close to the Cossack culture, the Cossack spirit. Recently, he has repeatedly called the group's work "modern Cossack songs."
But it all started with real Siberian rock. If anyone could be with with good reason to call it that, then it is the "Kalinov Bridge" of the 1986-1989 model. What they wrote about: an epic "wide" sound, uterine power, Revyakin's "bear" roar ("revyakin" - Siberian dialect "bear"). In memory of this period, there were concert recordings - the albums "It was necessary", "Freemen". With this program, the group made a splash at the famous Podolsky rock festival ("Soviet Woodstock") in 1987.
"Kalinov Most" is one of the few groups that can rightfully bear the name of "legends of Russian rock". And even among these few groups, she is special. Especially mysterious, legendary and even mythological. Firstly, the very name of the group is mythological - "Kalinov Most". Such a serious, symbolic name is, perhaps, no other known domestic rock groups. In Russian folk tales Kalinov bridge (hot, fiery bridge) - the place of the battle of the hero with evil spirit. This is a symbol of the struggle between good and evil, and the decisive moment of this struggle. And it is important that Dmitry Revyakin himself, who, as befits a true poet, is very attentive to the Word, is aware of the responsibility of the Name adopted by the group. At different moments in the history of the group, this multi-valued symbol was refracted by its different facets. It was also called the "Indian goddess of death (dissolution) Kali", and the "lower solar cycle", and "struggle with oneself", and in general any moment of initiation, transition from one state to another. Now Revyakin proposes to understand "Kalinov Bridge" as "a bridge from godlessness to God."
Although the group loudly declared itself already in 1986-87, the first studio album "Vyvoroten" (with its roots out) was released in 1990. And it did not contain a single (!) Of the songs that had already brought fame to the group. This is the second riddle. The songs were not just different, but completely different in terms of poetics, it is completely incomprehensible from where the mysterious images and intricacies of words that came to the author (D. Revyakin) came from. And a specific melos, in which, in addition to "blues" and "rock" elements, ethnic motifs, shamanic chants were fused. In the next two albums, which were recorded simultaneously in 1991 - "Uzaren" and "Darza", the poetics became even more complicated, word creation in the spirit of Velimir Khlebnikov began to be felt more clearly. At the same time, the sound of the albums is very different. Soft, semi-acoustic "Uzaren" (enlightenment) and hard, electric "Darza" (challenge, daring). The work on the album "Ulchi Belt" (U - movement, L - love, H - honor - the way of people to harmony) turned out to be long and difficult. A record number of invited musicians took part in the recording - and what! Sergei Voronov, Inna Zhelannaya, Vadim Golutvin, Alexander Chinenkov, Sergei Mazaev - a real constellation of names. "Belt of Ulchi" is still one of the most beautiful and interesting recordings in Russian rock music. But in the group itself, relations are complicated. In the summer of 1994, the DDT group, worried about the state of half-life in which KM had been for almost two years, organized a joint action in support of the Bridge - big concerts in St. Petersburg and Moscow. In May 1995, Most appeared in Moscow and performed live on the Fresh Wind television company (Live with Max program). A recording of this performance was released on SNC under the title "Traven" (May). Perhaps, the lightness and some "popsy" sound, previously uncharacteristic for this team, made "Traven" the highest-grossing Kalinov Most album at a certain point. Nevertheless, the group found itself in a situation of a rather tough choice: "either to be commercialized or to perish." Four musicians from Novosibirsk took the second path. "Kalinov Bridge" was divorced.
However, the path of the legend and the development of the myth did not end there. The group reconvened in 1997. And in 1998 the album "Arms" was recorded (Orati - to plow with a plow, Zhiche - to live). The return of "Kalinov Bridge" on a new level. The song "Rodnaya" from this album still remains the hallmark of the group and often appears on the air of radio stations. In 2000, the group recorded the maxi-single "Jerusalem". Even more clearly manifested invariably inherent in the songs of the group's spiritual direction. In 2001, the album "Ore" was released, on which previously unreleased and reworked old songs (1984 - 1988) were recorded. Highly interesting album, by which one can trace the origin of the unique "Kalinovomostovsky" style, starting with the very first song written by D. Revyakin, and ending with the amazing and poignant 10-minute epic painting "Cossack" (dedicated to A. Bashlachev).
The group has several video clips (including real works of art - "Saved" and "Native"), performances on radio, on television, participation in the largest domestic rock festivals ("Wings", "Invasion"). The most organic and therefore successful for the Siberians was the festival "In the mountains, on a fast river" (Gorny Altai, Katun River), which resulted in the release of a live album - "Katun" (1999).
Dmitry Revyakin calls the current stage in the development of the group "messianic". The album "SWA" (2006) (Swa - an ancient, fire-forming root, which in Sanskrit means - "ego", "essence") is a cycle of lyrical songs "about the relationship of the sexes in eschatological times", - according to Dmitry, the album carries a hidden message - an increase in the birth rate, an improvement demographic situation in Russia. The album was recorded for five whole years (that's how much has passed since the release of the previous "Ore"). And not in vain. Sound, poetry, music - all at the highest level. Songs that bring up the nobility of feelings.
Messianic motifs unfold and intensify in the album "Ice Campaign" (2007). Revyakin does not hide the fact that this is a direct reference to the eponymous historical event times civil war(1919-1920), and this refers to the Great Siberian Ice Campaign - the retreat of the remnants of the Kolchak Army in Transbaikalia. However, the "Ice Campaign" at the "Kalinov Bridge" acquires special meaning and a new optimistic glow. The leader of the group sees the revival of Russia from the East, from Siberia, where the inexhaustible human and natural potential is still ripening and where the "new pioneers" are destined to be born (this is the name of one of the songs).
The album "Heart", released in 2009, is dedicated to the memory of Dmitry Revyakin's wife and is an exemplary cycle of songs about pure love and boundless loyalty. An ideal example of the attitude towards the beloved and the sublime bright image of her - the guardian, the inspirer, who, in a transformed form, personifies the song for the "poet, hero and warrior." The album, which for obvious reasons could well become heavy, tragic, turned out to be, without losing the fullness of sadness and suffering, very bright, life-affirming in every sense. First of all, in the sense of Eternal Life.
An important milestone for "Kalinov Most" was the release of the harsh and fiery, thriller-like album "Eskhato" (2010) ("eskhato" - the root of the word "eschatology" - the doctrine of the End of Times), two songs from which for the first time in the history of the group headed the hit for many weeks - parade of the "Chart Dozen" on "Our Radio". "Kalinov Most" here offers a look at the last times not from the point of view of a layman frightened by cataclysms, but from the point of view of warriors, knights of the faith, who understand what is happening around, do not accept the surrounding decay, are ready to courageously meet the cleansing storm and even exclaim with the words of the Apocalypse and one of the songs: "Come, Day of Wrath!".
Recently, the group is in a wonderful musical and creative form. A tribute album dedicated to Alexander Bashlachev has been recorded and is awaiting publication. Released new album"Golden Oatmeal" (2012). New songs are constantly being recorded, live DVDs are being prepared. The group brightly celebrated its quarter-century (1986-2011) anniversary holiday concerts with the participation of Russian rock stars.
It is felt that Dmitry, as a poet and a prophet, felt for the thread of Ariadne, smelled a fresh wind and is ready to catch it in his sails. We are waiting for the transformation, a new step and New World ahead. The myth lives on, the legend continues, and every listener takes part in this.

Kalinov Most
Guitar from guitars!

Wake me up at night, push me and angrily ask: "And tell me quickly, brother, the three names of the best Russian guitarists," without thinking for a second, I will name them to you. This ... In short, Vasily Smolentsev from KALINOV BRIDGE will certainly be among them ...

KALINOV MOST will perform in Minsk on April 25. A week and a half before the concert, Musical Newspaper called Novosibirsk, where she found Vasily in one of the studios and asked him a few questions.

What, the KALINOV MOST band has started recording a new album?

No, it's just that we're sort of stuffing our hands, testing the equipment.

Are you still rolling the "Arms" program around Russia, the CIS, or are all thoughts already busy preparing a new program?

We have not performed much with the "Arms" program yet, few people have heard it. We played it quite a bit, we traveled with her in few cities. Our tour schedule is not too big, today we don’t go on such tours as, say, DDT had, World Number Zero. And we don’t want to, and are not ready internally, you need to somehow set yourself up for such tours, pull yourself up, pull up financial opportunities.

How is your program received? Where is better, where is not so good?

Everywhere is the same. There are no extremes, which, apparently, depends on the nature of our public, which for twelve or thirteen years has become accustomed to us the way we are. The viewer treats us exactly.

The audience now comes to the MOST concerts more loving your work or knowing about you by hearsay?

She is everyone. There are those who follow our work from the first days of the appearance of KALINOV BRIDGE, from his first albums. And someone recently opened it. Different audience.

Speaking specifically about Vasily Smolentsev as a musician, then ...

I have unfinished musical education: I studied for four years in Novosibirsk in music school violin class. And in KALINOVMOST, in general, I got in 86 by accident. I saw a couple of their performances, I immediately liked them. Well, Dima Revyakin somehow invited me to his place through intermediaries. It turns out that he already heard me at some local festivals, where I performed as part of the LEFT BEREGO group. And when, in my opinion, there were problems with the guitarist of Kalinov Bridge - he stopped going to rehearsals, something else - then Revyakin chose me.

Rubbed to each other quickly?

On the contrary, for a long time! I was the youngest then in the group, I was eighteen years old, and they were older. That is, at first, the age difference affected the relationship. Then I also played completely different music in LEVOMBEREG, although it was also a guitar group, there was an acoustic guitar and an electric one, of course. And when I came to MOST, Dima kind of guided me, taught me: play harder here, softer here. Maybe that's why they took me, that I could give out the sound that this moment time the group needed it ... By the way, what is interesting: the singer of the SHORE had a surname Revyakin! True, his name was Sergei.

The music of KALINOV BRIDGE at that time was already called "Russian national folk-rock"...

Yes, there was something like that. We didn’t particularly resist: if you want to call it that, please, that’s okay too. We were even wondering who we belong to which style of music.

Is the album "Arms" something special for you?

I consider it as a kind of point, as a kind of complete cycle, which began with "The Turnout" or even with our first, some kind of underground album. Everything, everything that we did little by little for twelve years, as it were, entered into the "Weapon". There is nothing new there.

That's great! Usually the musicians of the band that recorded a new album say that, they say, this work has become our new step back and forth ...

We also sometimes say that, and then we look back - it seems like we haven’t gone anywhere, everything is in the same place, fir-trees-sticks!

A few years ago you left the band. What was the reason for this?

Yes, I turned out to be something extreme. We just arrived in Moscow for the first time, we had to cling to it, and somehow it was difficult for us, which affected the internal relations in the group. It so happened with us that suddenly someone began to slide to the edge, and the others crushed him at that moment, did not interfere. And then one day, when I arrived in Moscow in 1988, I was immediately asked to go home. Dima asked. But he asked calmly, without quarrels. And for eight or nine months I was out of the group. And then Revyakin called, apologized, said that everything went wrong somehow with you and it was not about you. Over the years, he generally becomes less and less impulsive.

KALINOV MOST in those years worked with Stas Namin (he helped us a lot with recording records, he released almost all of our works, I can’t say anything bad about him), with his center. For six years we collaborated with Stas, and we recorded the last disc with him in 94.

I remember that at that time there was talk that KALINOVMOST sold out to Namin, sold out to show business, started playing more popular music...

They said something like that, but we really wanted to become more popular, we introduced some such elements into the music, but nothing fundamentally changed. We had enough “popularity” for half a song, for some touch in a song, but we didn’t completely go crazy, as they say, something inside didn’t let us break loose.

After leaving Kalinov Bridge, what did you do?

guitar. I didn't play in other bands.

Your colleagues - musicians from other bands - music critics highly appreciate your professional skills...

Thanks very nice to hear...

How much time per day do you spend on the guitar? Who are you interested in among musicians-guitarists, do you read special literature on the instrument? Do you have priorities among guitars of this or that company?

I study for two or three hours a day, but it happens that I don’t take it in my hands for a week, or even a month (although this happens very rarely). Musicians... Yes, I won’t name any new names for you, all the same great ones, on whom many generations of our guitarists were brought up, from whom we all “removed”. I don’t read the press, somehow I don’t need it. Guitars - "Gibson" and "Fender". And at the concert I use one guitar.

KALINOV BRIDGE had a remarkable meeting with Brian May...

Yes, we met him in England at the airport. We gave him a record, took an autograph, thanked him for everything he did for us. For all of us. We grew up on QUEEN, were brought up.

Was there any response from May to the record?

There was something like that. But I don't remember exactly what.

Many outstanding guitarists, members of great bands, while working in a team, also record and solo albums- or purely guitar, or even with vocals - their own or someone else's. Did you have such a desire?

There is a desire, there are some ideas, but... these are just ideas and a desire. There is no need to talk about anything specific.

The name of the Kalinov Bridge group was suggested to the permanent leader of the rock band Dmitry Revyakin by the future wife. Over the years, the symbolism of the bridge to realm of the dead was replaced by associations with a transitional state: since 1986, not only the composition of the group, but also the style of its work has changed several times. From folk and blues - to "new Cossack songs", from pagan images - to biblical motives.

Group "Kalinov bridge"

Critics recognized the fifth studio album "Arms" as a landmark for Russian music. Revyakin, on the other hand, considers the “Ice Campaign” to be the key for the team. And although the musician said that with the release of this album, the mission of the Kalinov Bridge was completed, the group continued to create.

History of creation and composition

Officially, the starting point in the history of the Kalinov Most group is 1986, when the self-titled debut magnetic album was released. But the first concerts of the ensemble, which was put together by Dmitry Revyakin, a student of the Novosibirsk Electrotechnical Institute, who was passionate about poetry, took place much earlier. While moonlighting as a DJ at discos, Revyakin dreamed that he would create his own music.

"Golden composition" of the group "Kalinov Most"

Students of the same institute joined him: Viktor Chaplygin sat down at the drums, Andrei Shchennikov became the bass player, and Dmitry Selivanov, with whom Revyakin had previously played in the Health team, was the guitarist throughout 1986. Soon, due to disagreements, the namesake of the leader left the Kalinov Bridge, and Vasily Smolentsev took his place. The quartet turned out to be so strong that it existed in this form for a decade. It is considered the "golden composition" of the Novosibirsk team.

Shchennikov is the first to leave this group. At this time, the musicians are working on their fifth studio album "Arms" and Oleg Tatarenko is invited to record bass parts. He worked with Kalinov Most throughout 1999, and then he was replaced by Evgeny Baryshev, who remained in the team until 2003.

However, as soon as the ensemble acquires a permanent bassist, a vacancy for a guitarist arises: in 2001, Smolentsev ceased cooperation with Revyakin and Chaplygin. A year after him, Stas Lukyanov and Evgeny Kolmakov play in the KM, and in 2003 Igor Khomich joins the group. In the same year, Oleg Tatarenko returns to the bassist's place.

Neither Tatarenko nor Khomich stay in the group for more than a few years. Since mid-2006, Kalinov Most has found a new guitarist. It becomes Konstantin Kovachev, who later on in some songs of the ensemble plays the lute, harp and keyboards. A little later, Andrey Baslyk took the place of Tatarenko. The bass player is also responsible for backing vocals. Along with the permanent Revyakin and Chaplygin, Baslyk and Kovachev are the musicians of the current composition of the rock band.

Music

The initial stage of the group's work - until the 90s - is close in philosophy and style to the hippie movement. It is no coincidence that the song "Girl in the Summer" from the first magnetic album, released in 1986, got into the soundtrack of the film "House of the Sun". He shot a film dedicated to the life of "flower children" in the USSR, using the story for the plot.

Also during this period, compositions with civil lyrics appeared: "Siberian March", "Cossack" and others.

“And our songs were at the level of manifestos, and the country lived with expectations,” soloist Dmitry Revyakin recalls in an interview with MAXIM magazine.
"Kalinov Bridge" - "Girl in the Summer"

"Kalinov Bridge" receives positive feedback from colleagues in the shop:,. In 1987, the team performed for the first time in St. Petersburg, and presented to the public of Novosibirsk. Musicians perform in rock clubs, at festivals, participate in apartment houses.

In 1989, Revyakin returned to Novosibirsk, and the rest of the group was forced to play other people's songs at concerts and tours, mostly by foreign bands. For a year and a half, Dmitry creates material that allows the team to begin cooperation with the Center.

In 1991, the first studio album "Vyvoroten" was recorded, at the same time compositions for the records "Uzaren" and "Darza" were created and recorded. The lyrics of this period are marked by the use of anachronisms, the Old Slavonic language, and images characteristic of pagan culture. Revyakin later defines the genre of music as "new Cossack songs".

Widespread fame, and with it the financial stability of "Kalinov Bridge" brings the album "Arms". Unlike previous records, the arrangements are devoid of the sound of keyboards and brass, and acoustic guitar hardly noticeable behind the harshness of the drums and the pressure of the electric guitars. The belligerence, which is imbued with music on the disc, impressed the critics, who called "Arms" a landmark album for domestic rock. The song "Rodnaya" becomes a hit, the second clip in the history of "Kalinov Bridge" is shot on it. In 2016, the group performed the song together with Alena Korotaeva, a participant in the Blue Bird contest.

"Kalinov Bridge" and Alena Korotaeva - "Native"

Three years later, the band's popularity is reinforced by the album "Ore", but then there is a break in the release of new material. Continuing to tour, Kalinov Most is going through a line-up change. A personal tragedy is superimposed on the instability of the period: the wife of vocalist Dmitry Revyakin, Olga, dies of a heart attack. A year after the sad event and five years after the release of the previous album, Kalinov Most presents the album SWA. The lyrical, ballad-filled release is dedicated to Olga Revyakina.

Album SWA group "Kalinov Most" dedicated to Olga Revyakina

Later, a similar disc will appear in the discography of Novosibirsk - the album "Heart", released in 2009. But between the two releases in 2007, "The Ice Campaign" will be released, which Revyakin will call the pinnacle of the group's creativity and the fulfillment of its mission. The first violin is played by ideological lyrics, in which one feels the author's sympathy for Orthodoxy and White movement.

"Kalinov Most" - "Jerusalem"

At the end of the 2000s, Kalinov Most was invited to become a headliner by the organizers of the largest festivals: Invasion, Rock-ethno-stan, Heart of Parma and others. Attention from music producers becomes the launching pad for the group's creativity in the second decade of the 21st century. Since 2010, Revyakin and company have released five albums, starting with the unusually daring "Eskhato" with the militant hit "Mother Europe". The ideological, contemplative album "Golden Oatmeal" is replaced by the urban, hard disc "Contra".

"Kalinov bridge" - "Kamchatka"

In 2016, the group released their 16th studio album, Season of the Sheep. It is noteworthy that funds for the release of the release were collected using crowdfunding. Thanks to the successful campaign, the presentation of a new block of creativity of Novosibirsk took place, and the participants of the gathering received digital copies of the disc.

"Kalinov bridge" now

In February 2018, as part of the Chart Dozen award, Dmitry Revyakin received an award from Nashe Radio in the Soloist of the Year nomination. And it is no coincidence: the hit "Kalinov Bridge" "Na Ural" sounded on the air of the station throughout 2017.

Kalinov Most Group in 2018

In April 2018, Novosibirsk announced the launch of a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for the release of the Dauria album. The name is given in honor of the old name of the Trans-Baikal Territory, native to Revyakin. It is expected that the recording will take place in the studio of Stas Namin. The release is scheduled for December 2018.

Two concerts in Krasnoyarsk - a concert by Kalinov Most at the Podium club and a concert by the Time Machine at the Big Concert Hall - took place with a break of a day. Andrey Shevelev talks about each of them.

Kalinov Most on this tour presents a new album called "Contra". And it's the kind of album that critics usually write about in long review articles like "album considered controversial" or "album considered difficult to read" or something like that.

If you have lived with Dmitry Revyakin for the last 25 years and listened to the entire previous "line" of albums, then "Contra" does not seem so complicated and controversial to you, although there are, let's say, a few things in this album that even scared me a little, despite all my previous experience with the music of Kalinov Most.

In no case would I recommend this album for the first acquaintance with the group, for the first listening. For the first acquaintance, you can take some good compilation, for example, “Fly away” or a collection from the series “Legends of Russian Rock”. You can also start with the albums "Arms", "SWA", "Ice campaign". Possibly also "Vyvorotny".

And yet! New program played live, quite successfully. Interestingly, there are several things in the album that are so driving and dynamic that when I later listened to it at home, I was surprised why they didn’t play these things? Why choose another?

But, in general, the program was built very interestingly. There were all the hits expected by the people, but they were so well placed, among such unobvious hit songs, that is, also good, also wonderful, but which are not played so often at concerts. And plus songs from the new album.

In general, everything together is so curiously developed: when one song ends, you think: oh! what's next? What will they move on to, what will be the next step, what word will be said in this conversation with the public? ..

Sadly, in some ways, Comrade Stalin was right when he said "there are no irreplaceable people." The fact is that the sound of Kalinov Most, since the 80s, has been associated with the playing of guitarist Vasily Smolentsev. Therefore, when Vasily announced that he was leaving the group completely and irrevocably and would no longer cooperate with Revyakin, many perceived this as the finale of Kalinov Most.

Guitarist Konstantin Kovachev, who plays in the band today, for how long... I think he has been in Most for more than five years... I can be wrong now, but still he has been with them for quite a long time - 5-7 years, maybe. In general, it feels like the band has always played with this guitarist. And his manner fit so well into the melodic, rhythmic structures that Revyakin comes up with that it seems as if this person has always been in the group.

And here's another very important moment: if this group sang in some Eskimo language, and I didn’t understand a word at all, I would still listen to the whole concert, from beginning to end, simply because they play very well . It was such a small, compact, classy, dense sounding rock band. At the same time, four of them came to the previous concert, and this time they were five of them with keyboardist Alexander Vladykin.

What is interesting: the keys in the overall balance of the instruments were not too highlighted, but simply created such an atmosphere: they seem to be absent, but you listen and understand that in fact they are just very finely made and act on you so much that you don’t notice them. But in fact, they are, and how.

Well, and Viktor Chaplygin, a veteran of Kalinov Most, a wonderful drummer, because in these Revyakin songs, it’s not easy to play the drums there! There, let's say, a lumberjack drummer, no matter how powerful he is, no matter how powerful his blow is, and no matter what technique he has ... well, the lumberjack will not do anything good. There you need a very plastic manner - somewhere very quietly, literally with brushes, in a whisper, some kind of grass noise in the wind. And somewhere on the contrary, you need to stick such, very good, to give. And Chaplygin does it very well.

In general, I think that everyone who was at the concert was very pleased. The only thing, of course, I would like more people to come to the concerts of Kalinov Most. It’s just that for some reason lately (well, it’s understandable why, because you won’t get rich on this group) their concerts are made in some such peripheral clubs ... No, don’t think, the sound was very good, everything was clear - words, instruments.

Simply, the advertising campaign was carried out so modestly that ... Here, let's say, a few of my friends who listen to Kalinov Most, love it, found out about the concert literally at the last moment, because I called them - asked, and you are generally on Are you going to Kalinov Most today?

When they ask me about my attitude to downloading music from the Internet, I always answer like this: I downloaded, I download and I will download! Just like in Soviet times rewrote cassettes-coils and did not complex about this at all. But at the same time, anyone for whom music is not just a background, but something more, must understand that if we do not invest some penny in it, then there will be less and less good music, because musicians it's getting harder and harder to do it.

Not everyone has the financial means to assemble large halls in 10-15 cities, to earn a livelihood with a concert tour, and for musicians to pay salaries, and to record a new album. Therefore, each of us must determine for himself some circle of his favorite bands and musicians - and go to concerts for money and / or buy branded products - CDs, DVDs, some T-shirts at concerts.

Just decide who is the most dear to you, who gives you the most joy and pleasure with your music and support him with your ruble. For example, I almost never leave a Kalinov Most concert without shopping. Last time I bought a DVD, their concert in Novosibirsk in 2010, this time the new album "Contra" in such a normal collector's edition, with a booklet, in cardboard, everything is very good, with excellent design, and three fridge magnets.

The magnets with album covers, by the way, look great - "Vyvoroten", "Darza" and "Fly away", a collection of the best things. I wanted to buy more with the album “Arms”, because this is my favorite record from Most, but, as their tour manager told me, they were all taken apart.

Yes, for such groups, which have a small budget, this is especially important. And you have to understand that these funds do not go into the pocket of some record company, some fat cats. They sell it themselves: here they go with a minimal staff - five musicians, a sound engineer and a tour manager who carries suitcases with all these disks, books, magnets, T-shirts ... in a word, gentlemen! Well, you spend more on beer on a Friday night! Buy because you already need it.

"Kalinov Bridge" - because in Russian
folk tales this eternal place
struggle between good and evil.
Dmitry Revyakin

The Kalinov Most group, which received the title of "Legend of Russian Rock", was born in Novosibirsk in the autumn of 1984. Two Dimas stood at its origins - Revyakin, who wrote lyrics and music, and Selivanov, a local cult guitarist who owned most of the melodic and arranging decisions. Both of them then studied at NETI (Novosibirsk Electrotechnical Institute).

The duet formed after both Dims were rejected by a certain institute commission for the selection of personnel in amateur performances- so, immediately after the unsuccessful audition, right under the doors of the office where this very commission met, the future "Kalinov Most" began to exist. However, the group was first dubbed "Health", then it turned into "Equinox". In general, it emerged as a team only in 1985-86, when bassist Andrey Shchennikov and drummer Viktor Chaplygin, who played in the legendary Novosibirsk team Lombard, were added to the Revyakin-Selivanov tandem.

Rehearsals were rare, no one took them seriously at first. Dima Selivanov either came to play or disappeared - and once disappeared just before the concert. I had to urgently look for a replacement - so 18-year-old Vasya Smolentsev from the Left Bank group appeared on the horizon. Having learned in record time short term repertoire, he saved the day by staunchly playing an hour and a half program on stage. After this concert (November 1986), at which Revyakin rashly introduced the new solo guitarist to the public as a "rising star", Smolentsev remains in the team.

So, in the fall of 1986, the formation of the "gold composition" is completed. Then the NAME appears - "Kalinov Most" - a mythological, conceptual name, a NAME THAT OBLIGES.

In December 1986, rehearsals for a new album began at the GRTU (city radio broadcasting hub) December 27-19 new material was recorded, and on January 11, 1987, "Most" gave the first full-fledged concert at NETI. Then the "bridges" got acquainted with Kinchev, and thanks to him, the "Bridge" for the first time leaves "from the depths of the Siberian ores" to the European part of Russia. In January 1987 in Leningrad - Mecca Soviet rock- an unknown team from a Siberian far away appears on the LDM stage.

On September 12, 1987, "Most" performed at the legendary festival in Podolsk - a group of unprecedented creative power suddenly appeared before the astonished audience. However, while performing a song about the Polonians, Dima sang directly into the microphone with impeccable articulation one of the very words that people on stage asked not to use. As a result, the Siberian swearers were not given a prize - but God bless him, with a prize. The main thing is that it was from the performance at the "Soviet Woodstock" that the nationwide fame of the "Bridge" began.

In the spring of 1988 - "Kalinov Most" met Stas Namin, he offered the team to work and create under the patronage of SNC - and, therefore, the opportunity to record in a professional studio. All summer they pondered this interesting proposal. In the fall of 1988, Most moved to Moscow. A new professional incarnation, in which "KM" was supposed to appear, emerged through a series of trials and errors. And one of the first mistakes was the expulsion of Smolentsev, who was accused of dilettantism and a poor sense of rhythm. For half a year (from November 1988 to the spring of 1989) Most played with Vladimir Bugayets from the Lombard group.

In the spring of 1989, Revyakin called back Smolentsev - and the reunited "golden squad" departed for their historical homeland, deciding to choose the tactics of "raids" on Moscow. Having rehearsed new material at home, Most recorded their first studio album, Vyvoroten (November-December 1990), on SNC. Then a year later, in the winter of 1991 - two albums at once. The semi-acoustic "Uzaren" was made at SNC by order of Stas Namin, and at the same time for himself and with his own money at the VPTO "Videofilm" "KM" writes a tough, electric "Darza" (1991).

In May 1992, the unplugged "Rain" was recorded at the SNC studio, and in the summer, "Kalinov Most" participated in the Victor Tsoi Memorial Festival - it was one of the strongest performances of "Most". But this year has not only brought good luck. Then in 1992, relations in the group cracked. After the tour (Bratsk-Angarsk-Krasnoyarsk), the group actually fell apart - Revyakin and Smolentsev remained together. So together they dragged on themselves all the huge work of preparing and recording the future "Ulchi Belt" - a monumental song epic, which to this day remains the top album of "KM". Novosibirsk musicians Oleg Tatarenko (bass) and Alexander Vladykin (keys) were called to help, with whom the studio work began - in December 1992.

By the end of the recording, the "golden composition" of "Most" made an attempt to unite again - then, on June 4, 1993, a concert was played in the Moscow club "A", which was then published as a bootleg "No way 406". Unfortunately, this attempt at reconciliation soon failed. A year later, in the summer of 1994, the DDT group, worried about the state of half-life in which KM had been for almost two years, organized a joint action in support of the Bridge - big concerts in St. Petersburg and Moscow.

After several concerts (N-ske and Norilsk), finally in May 95, "Most" appears in Moscow and performs live on the TV company "Fresh Wind" (program "Live with Max") as part of Revyakin - Smolentsev - Chaplygin - Tatarenko ( bass) - Vladykin (keys). The recording of this performance was released on SNC under the name "Traven" (1995)

On February 28, 1997, the group met again after a two-year break in the textbook composition "Revyakin - Smolentsev - Chaplygin - Shchennikov" and gave a concert in the Moscow "Gorbushka", dedicated to the release of the Kalinov Most archive at the Moroz Records company.

The recording of "Arms" lasted almost a year - from the fall of 1997 to August 1998. Work began in the winter of 97/98 in Novosibirsk, at the studio. Vladimir Bugaev - arrangements were born there and the material was finally assembled from pieces into a single whole. In the same place, "KM" parted ways with bassist Andrei Shchennikov - one of the "founding fathers" of the group and further work over "Weapons" took place with Oleg Tatrenko.

The clip for "Rodnaya" was filmed in July 1998, the mixing of "Arms" ended on August 11 - the end of work on the album "Bridges" was marked by a trip to the "Rolling Stones" and departure home for the holidays. A respite was necessary - in the autumn the "harvest" began. "Arms" and especially "Rodnaya" began to bear fruit - a series of presentations, press conferences, concerts, radio and TV appearances followed. After presentations in three cities - Novosibirsk, Moscow and St. Petersburg, "KM" went on a foreign voyage. Two concerts took place in Israel - in Haifa and Tel Aviv.
