The early closing of an exhibition by American photographer Jock Sturges at the Lumiere Brothers Photography Center was one of the high-profile art scandals of 2016. The exposition worked for two weeks, after which Elena Mizulina, a member of the Federation Council, announced that she had sent a request to the prosecutor's office to check the exposition in connection with the "public demonstration of materials with child pornography." True, it was not necessary to wait for the decision of the prosecutor's office. On September 25, activists from the Russian Officers organization blocked the entrance to the Center for Photography, and a few hours later the gallery management decided to close the exhibition ahead of schedule. In the year since the scandalous closure, forensic experts have acknowledged the complete absence of signs of a crime and the high artistic level of Sturges's work. The photographer is known for his series of photographs of nudist families in France, Northern California and Ireland. “These photos have been published all over the world. Both galleries and museums did not see pornography in them. It just isn’t there,” Sturges commented on last year’s closing of his exhibition in Moscow.
