The history of the house is rich. Already in 1716, home ownership was very large sizes and belonged to Colonel Semyon Ivanovich Sukin. Arkharovsky house

The Central House of Scientists on Prechistenka was built on the territory, which in the old days was called Chertoly. The first mansion, on the site of the current House of Scientists, appeared in 1716 and was built by Colonel S.I. Sukin, it is not known exactly what his house looked like. The Central House of Scientists or CDU for short on Prechistenka is a place of concentration of cultural and scientific trends in Moscow, a place for communication and recreation of scientific and creative intelligentsia - scientists, writers and artists, engineers, artists and musicians.

The House of Scientists is not only a well-known institution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, but also an old architectural monument with a long and colorful history.

Story

Until the middle of the XVIII century. the territory of the House of Scientists belonged to Bolshaya Konyushennaya Sloboda, where at first the sovereign archers with their families settled, and later “stirrup ... grooms, stable watchmen ... horseshoe workers” lived.

AT late XVIII in. the land and the house were owned by the governor of Moscow, I.P. Arkharov. His wife, nee Rimskaya-Korsakov, was revered by Alexander I himself, who was a frequent visitor here.

In 1818 former house acquired by Prince I.A. Naryshkin, who was the uncle and planted father of Natalya Goncharova, the future wife of the great Pushkin. After the wedding, Alexander Sergeevich and his young wife often visited the mansion on Prechistenka. Later, when the house came into the possession of Count V. A. Musin-Pushkin, Nikolai Gogol often visited here, who at that time was creating the II volume of the immortal Dead Souls.

In 1865, the Konshin family acquired the mansion - richest owners textile enterprises in Russia. In the 1980s, the famous architect Anatoly Gunst took up a large-scale restructuring of the structure. His project provided for the construction of a new building, but with the preservation of the same proportions. Thanks to his talent, the reconstructed building, executed in the spirit of refined neoclassicism with a touch of Art Nouveau in decorative design, has become one of the most beautiful buildings in Moscow at the beginning of the new century. The facade was decorated with a pediment and pilasters with an elegant Ionic order and covered with a stone arched fence with balustrades and front gates guarded by figures of lions.

The two-story mansion of 15 rooms was distinguished by a special luxury of interior decoration and technological innovations - sewerage, special exhaust systems, and water supply. The interior of the rooms and the Winter Garden (grand dining room) was decorated with wonderful Italian marble, bronze and marble sculpture from France, magnificent Italian glass.

After the formation of the Land of Soviets, the building was closed, and the "objects of excesses" were nationalized. But already in 1922, here, under the wing of the Academy of Sciences, the House of Scientists was born, productive activity which has been going on continuously for more than 95 years.
The largest academicians of the young state participated in its creation: doctor N.A. Semashko, patriarch of aeromechanics S.A. Chaplygin, historian I.I. Mints, one of the founders of petrochemistry N.D. Zelinsky, the outstanding physicist M.V. Kirpichev, specialist in molecular biochemistry V.A. Engelhardt. The old mansion became a place of active communication between technical specialists, representatives of science and culture, and by 1926 28 scientific communities, circles and sections were opened here.

In 1990, during the leadership of V.S. Shkarovsky, after a large-scale overhaul and serious restoration, the mansion was returned to its original appearance.

Our days

Today, the Central House of Scientists in a beautiful mansion on Prechistenka has preserved the amazing spirit of creativity of the old intelligent Moscow and has become a truly scientific and cultural center of the capital and all of Russia.

Schools are doing well here. foreign languages, more than 35 creative studios, scientific and thematic sections, circles of interest, in which approximately 5 thousand people are involved. Organized own Symphony Orchestra, choir, children's and teenage dance ensemble, "amateur runners" club.

The Reading Room was placed in an old building with a modern extension. Concert halls- Large and Chamber for 500 and 90 seats, respectively, Blue and Green living room for meetings, parties, presentations.

Famous theater groups regularly come here on tour, they hold musical and creative meetings with famous writers, scientists, artists, evenings of old romance, performances of musical theater soloists.

In the living room White Acacia, the intellectual and creative flower of Moscow gathers for Prechistensky Fridays.

The mansion has a comfortable billiard room, an excellent restaurant with a cozy atmosphere.
