Holly O Hara

Daughter of Rapunzel

Something about me:

So, as I live out my fairy tale mission as the next Rapunzel, I'm seriously going to write new book fairy tales, where the characters will be all my friends!

Roommate: Poppy O'Hara

My "magic" talent:

Even if my hair is cut, it can easily be used for weaving, even strong rope or fine silk.

Romantic Story:

I don't really like Daring Charming. But just don't tell anyone (especially Apple White).

Exceptional moments:

Even though I've been in the tower for quite some time, I'm still very afraid of heights. In addition, the doors are always locked behind me and I will never get out of the tower!

My favorite lesson:

And of course: Salvation beautiful ladies. I am very pleased to be in the tower and write in my book, waiting for me to be rescued from imprisonment.

My least favorite lesson:

Gymnastics. And especially swimming lessons. It always takes me several hours to put all my hair under a bathing cap.

Aladdin is a character in the 1992 Disney cartoon, as well as sequels, the TV series and the Arabian fairy tale of the same name, which is included in the collection One Thousand and One Nights. The correct spelling of the hero's name is "Aladdin" (eng. Aladdin), but it is much more common in Runet irregular shape"Aladdin", which has taken root among the people.

Aladdin's backstory: the boy was born in poor family. The need prompted Aladdin's father to go in search of a better income. However, after he left Agrabah, his wife and Aladdin's mother were kidnapped by bandits. Aladdin was left an orphan. When Aladdin's father returned home, he couldn't find his family. Considering them dead, he left Agrabah forever in despair and became the leader of the infamous 40 robbers.

Left alone, Aladdin was forced to earn his living on the streets of Agrabah. In order not to die of hunger, he began to steal, but often kind heart urged him to give what he had stolen to those who needed more than him. At the age of seven, Aladdin was first caught by the captain of the Sultan's guards. The boy stole the apple by tricking the guards, but was eventually captured and imprisoned. However, Aladdin managed to free himself from the shackles and get out of prison. It didn't stop him from stealing. At the age of sixteen, he met the circus performers Aziz, Fatima and Minos, as well as their monkey Abu (this is described in the animated series Aladdin). Subsequently, Abu became a faithful companion and friend of Aladdin.

Character development

On the early stages the development of the cartoon "Aladdin" by Disney, the image of the character was different. Initially, Aladdin was drawn as a boy, and not quite an adult young man. The idea belonged to Disney's lead animator Glen Keane, who believed that this way the orphan hero would have a more vulnerable and touching look. However, to introduce love line between Aladdin and Princess Jasmine, Aladdin was nevertheless depicted as a young man at once, compensating for the youth and innocence of Aladdin's face with the width of his shoulders and a muscular figure. It was also originally assumed that the cartoon would feature Aladdin's mother, with whom he would live in poor areas of Agrabah. Composers Howard Ashman and Alan Menken even wrote the song "Proud Of Your Boy" for her, but the song was not included in the original script of the cartoon, just like the mother character himself.

Personality and character of Aladdin

The artists depicted the face of Aladdin as young and almost childish

Despite a difficult childhood and the hardships of life, Aladdin is a charming, cheerful and optimistic young man. He is forced to steal for food, but always shares with those who are even more in need, this expresses his tendency to altruism and the breadth of his soul. Aladdin is capable of self-sacrifice and kindness. Despite his mocking and positive disposition, Aladdin doubts that he is a good match for Princess Jasmine, so he hides under the guise of Prince Ali. Nevertheless, history puts everything in its place, and the street boy, thief and tramp Aladdin saves Agrabah and becomes the husband of the princess.

Appearance and costume of Aladdin

Designed by Glen Keane, the character is a tall, handsome, slender and muscular young man with long black hair. Aladdin has thick dark eyebrows and Brown eyes. Aladdin's poverty can be seen in his unpretentious suit: he is barefoot, and beige darned harem pants tied with a red sash, complemented only by a short purple vest without sleeves and fasteners, and a small Arab hat. In the guise of Prince Ali, Aladdin's costume is much more luxurious and resembles a Sultan's: a rich turban with a fabric falling over the shoulders is crowned with a large gem and a purple feather, cream-colored loose clothes and trousers are framed with gold braid and a color-matched belt, Aladdin's shoulders are covered with a light cloak with a purple lining, reaching to his calves. On his feet are golden Arabian shoes with long, upturned toes.

Aladdin's abilities

  • Strategic Thinking: Aladdin has repeatedly demonstrated miracles of dexterity and cunning in evading arrest for theft. More than once he led the head of the Sultan's guards and his soldiers by the nose.
  • Speed, Agility and Reflexes: Aladdin is fast, agile, agile and possesses amazing reflexes.
  • Swordsmanship: Aladdin has demonstrated an aptitude for swordsmanship, although he is unlikely to have ever been trained in it.
  • Communication with animals: Aladdin perfectly understands the language of Abu, his pet monkey.
  • Professional Thief: Aladdin is a skilled thief who has acquired his skills since early childhood.
  • Strength: Aladdin is not as strong as Genie or Jafar, however, he also has a high level of stamina and strength.

Other characters from the cartoon Aladdin

Princess Jasmine

Jasmine is the princess of Agrabah, daughter of the Sultan. Willful and free-spirited. She ran away from the palace disguised as a commoner. She does not want to marry princes, because she sees that they are hunting for her dowry. The meeting with Jasmine was a milestone event for Aladdin. He immediately noticed her extraordinary beauty, which could not be hidden even by discreet poor clothes, as well as the kindness of the princess (Jasmine fed the poor girl with an apple, for which she got into trouble in the bazaar). For Jasmine, Aladdin was the first to see behind the status of the princess and her pretty face personality. The princess is distinguished by her good disposition, beauty, as well as courage and dexterity. When Aladdin tries to help her get from one roof to another, she fearlessly and easily jumps to Aladdin with the help of a pole. She also easily plays along with Aladdin in different situations, quickly figure out what's what.

Genie is one of Aladdin's closest friends. Genie is not a person, but Aladdin respects him and treats him as a friend, and not just as a tool for fulfilling desires. He even promises that he will free him from slavery in the lamp. Genie, in turn, treats Aladdin with sympathy and not only fulfills the direct wish of the young man, but also tries in every possible way to help in relations with Princess Jasmine - however, to no avail. When Aladdin chooses to remain Prince Ali forever as his third wish, the Genie feels cheated on his best feelings. However, having become a servant of Jafar, he regrets very much that, at the will of the villain, he has to harm Aladdin. As a result, Aladdin still fulfills his promise and frees the Genie from the slavery of the lamp instead of asking for himself last third wish.

Aladdin's friend and assistant in all enterprises. Abu was the very first friend Aladdin met on his life path(the story of their meeting is told in the animated series about Aladdin). The monkey suffers from kleptomania, which sometimes puts Aladdin in a dangerous position. From time to time Abu acts as the voice of the conscience of the young man. Like Aladdin, Abu is agile and cunning. More than once, thanks to Abu, Aladdin escaped from the clutches of the guards. Aladdin also takes care of a friend and protects him.

magic carpet

The magic carpet is Aladdin's assistant and transport. The rug was first met by the heroes in the Cave of Miracles in the cartoon "Aladdin". Unlike Abu, who was initially hostile to the Magic Carpet, Aladdin took to the Carpet immediately. The Magic Carpet has come to the aid of Aladdin more than once. Like Abu, he is ready to save the young man, despite all the dangers. Aladin trusts Rug and gets along well with him.

Jafar is the insidious vizier of the Sultan of Agrabah, he craves power over the kingdom and uses Aladdin for his own low purposes. Jafar considers Aladdin a nonentity, fit only as a tool in a conspiracy against the Sultan. Jafar tried to get rid of Aladdin twice in the cartoon. At first he wished to become a powerful wizard, and then a great Genie, on which he got caught and landed in a lamp. At the end of the cartoon, Aladdin 2: The Return of Jafar was destroyed along with the lamp.

Iago the parrot is Jafar's helper and servant. An absurd, arrogant and greedy talking parrot, ready to help his master in his dark deeds. He hates the Sultan, as he constantly forcibly feeds Iago cookies and considers him a brainless bird. In Aladdin 2, Iago betrays his master Jafar and goes over to Aladdin's side, then betrays Aladdin under the influence of fear, and at the very end helps good triumph by destroying Jafar's lamp in red-hot lava.

"Aladdin", cartoon 1992

The 1992 Aladdin cartoon, or Aladdin 1, is one of the most popular Disney cartoons. It won several Oscars and spawned many sequels, prequels, and other adaptations.

Aladdin is a poor street bum and an orphan. To feed himself and his monkey friend Abu, Aladdin trades in petty theft on the streets of Agrabah. He spends his days earning his living and hiding from the vizier's guards, but retains a positive outlook on life, a sense of humor and a good heart that tells him to help even more disadvantaged than himself. One day he meets a beautiful girl on the streets of Agrabah, saving her from the wrath of a market trader. The girl turns out to be Princess Jasmine, who, disguised as a commoner, fled the palace. Aladdin falls in love with Jasmine, but at the most inopportune moment, the guards catch him and throw him into the dungeon. This is part of the cunning plan of Jafar, the evil vizier of the Sultan, who wants to take over Agrabah.

The characters in love at the end of the cartoon will, of course, be together!

To achieve his goal and gain power over the city, Jafar needs a magic lamp, which is safely stored in the Cave of Wonders. Only a pure-hearted person, "an uncut diamond" can enter the cave. It turns out to be Aladdin. Jafar tricks Aladdin into going after the lamp. In the Treasure Cave, Aladdin encounters the Magic Flying Carpet, which shows him exactly where to get the lamp. However, the only condition of the Cave of Miracles is not to touch anything except the lamp with your hands, violates Abu, who has been coveting a large ruby. Aladdin and Abu almost die because of the monkey's greed, but a magic rug saves them from death. Waking up in a cave underground, Aladin rubs the lamp to read what is written on it and releases the Genie.

The eccentric Genie informs Aladdin of the conditions: the owner of the lamp can make three wishes, and the Genie will fulfill them. Aladdin's first wish is to win Jasmine's heart by appearing before her as Prince Ali Ababua. However, before that, Aladdin, having played on the Genie's weakness to show off in front of the public, makes him rescue them from the cave. After a little indignation at Aladdin's little trick to save desires, the Genie fulfills the will of the young man and dresses him up as a prince, at the same time turns Abu into a royal elephant and provides Aladdin with a loud appearance in the capital at the head of a motley and numerous retinue with fakirs, dancers and tricks. But Aladdin faces a difficult task - to win the heart of Princess Jasmine, who does not even want to hear about Prince Ali, as he seems to her to be another empty and overdressed dowry hunter, which confirms the swaggering and self-confident appearance of the newly-made "prince".

However, Aladin's spontaneity and his appearance, which reminds the princess of the young man who saved her in the bazaar, eventually win the girl's heart. She agrees to spend the evening in the company of "Prince Ali" and his Magic Rug and unexpectedly recognizes Aladdin in Ali, whom she managed to fall in love with at first sight. Aladdin lies about the fact that he is in fact a prince who likes to dress up as a commoner out of boredom and escape from palace worries. The next day, Jasmine happily tells her father that she is ready to marry Prince Ali, but Jafar stands in the way of her happiness, stealing the lamp from Aladdin and becoming the new owner of the Genie. Jafar first wishes to become the Sultan himself, and then makes a wish to become the most powerful wizard in the world. The genie reluctantly fulfills these desires, after which Jafar throws Aladdin and Abu to the ends of the earth, where there is eternal cold.

Fortunately, the magic carpet is sent with them, thanks to which the heroes manage to get out and return to Agrabah. With the help of cunning, dexterity and the help of friends, Aladdin manages to defeat Jafar, forcing him to wish for the power of the genies and thereby put him in a lamp forever. However, Jafar manages to uncover Aladdin's lie about being a prince, showing Princess Jasmine that he is really just a tramp on the street. The princess forgives the young man, but he, having decided not to deceive anymore, instead of a title for himself, gives freedom to the Genie with his third wish. Such an act impressed not only Jasmine, but also her father, the Sultan, who considered it worthy for his daughter to become Aladdin's wife.

Aladdin 2: The Return of Jafar is a sequel to the original Disney cartoon that was released two years later in 1994.

Aladdin is engaged to Jasmine. The case goes to the wedding, but Aladdin is still engaged in theft. True, now he steals from thieves and distributes to the poor. Once again, having swindled a gang of robbers, Aladdin makes himself an enemy, Abis Mal, the leader of the gang. The accomplices want to get rid of the unlucky Abis Mal, but he finds a black lamp and frees Jafar, who, taking advantage of a good opportunity, decides to return to Agrabah and take revenge on Aladdin with the assistance of a robber who has his own tooth on the young man.

In the second part of the cartoon, the heroes will again have to fight the insidious Jafar

Meanwhile, the parrot Iago, who decided to go his own way and abandoned his former owner, returns to Agrabah and specially catches the eye of Aladdin in order to ingratiate himself and enter the palace. He succeeds. However, Jafar arrives in Agrabah, who wants the former servant to help him set up a trap for Aladdin. Iago reluctantly agrees. Jafar manages to capture and imprison the Genie who returned to his friends in a glass ball-trap, as well as kidnap Jasmine, her father and Abu, exposing Aladdin as the murderer of the Sultan. When Aladdin is ready to be beheaded for something he did not do, Iago frees the Genie from captivity and he saves Aladdin and the others. The friends decide that Jafar's lamp must be destroyed in order to defeat him and get rid of him forever.

It's not so easy: Jafar, with his mighty powers, causes insurmountable obstacles in the form of cracked earth and lava flows in front of Aladdin, Abu, Genie and Jasmine. The situation is saved by Iago. At the cost of his own safety and health, he throws Jafar's lamp into the red-hot lava. Jafar dies, the sun again shines over serene Agrabah. Aladdin and Jasmine decide to take a trip together to see the world.

"Aladdin" animated series

The Aladdin animated series was based on the original cartoon exclusively for Disney Afternoon and aired from 1994 to 1995. The series begins with the finale of Aladdin 2: The Return of Jafar.

Princess Jasmine is always ready to help her lover

Jafar is defeated, Aladdin is engaged to Jasmine, but still spends a lot of time on the streets of Agrabah, fighting evil, looking for treasure and keeping the city safe. Now that the greedy Iago has proven his loyalty, he succeeds in coaxing Aladdin into a treasure hunt. In the series, along with Abis Mal, Aladdin has new enemies, as well as new friends. For example, on the streets of Agrabah he rescues poor girl Sadira who falls in love with Aladdin. To get the attention of her hero, she tries to quarrel Aladdin and Jasmine. However, after unsuccessful attempts, he gives up and joins Aladdin and his team as a friend and helper. A similar story takes place in one of the episodes, when the mermaid Salin, having fallen in love with Aladdin, wants to recapture him from Jasmine, putting her in an underwater prison and trying to make Aladdin her slave. Also, the series "Aladdin" tells how Aladdin met Abu.

The cartoon "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" is another continuation of the popular cartoon "Aladdin" about a simple poor man from the streets of Agrabah, who became the heir to the Sultan. The cartoon "Aladdin and the King of Thieves", or "Aladdin 3" tells about the meeting and relationship of Aladdin with his own father.

Aladdin and Jasmine finally decided to get married. The wedding of the millennium is coming. But while the people of Agrabah, Genie, Abu and Jasmine are in joyful anticipation, Aladdin is saddened. He found a dagger that once belonged to his father, whom Aladdin believed to be long dead. He tells Genie that he never knew what a real family was, so he is not at all ready to create a new social unit with Jasmine. The genie does everything to help Aladdin gain confidence and escorts him to the ceremony. The wedding goes off brilliantly at first, but in the end the celebration is interrupted by a gang of robbers.

The first meeting with his father was not the most joyful for Aladdin

Jasmine, Genie, Magic Carpet and Iago fight the villains, while Aladdin fights their leader. In the process, he realizes that he is fighting the King of Thieves himself, it also becomes clear that the thieves disrupted the ceremony, as they came for one thing presented to Aladin and Jasmine for their wedding. This is a magical scepter that is able to free the Oracle. The oracle knows everything that has been and will be, and can also answer all questions that are asked of it. Aladdin uses this opportunity to ask the Oracle about his father. The oracle says that Aladdin's father, Kasim, is alive and is the King of Thieves whom Aladdin fought recently. Aladdin is stunned by the news and wants to know why his father abandoned him as a child. Therefore, he, in the company of the Magic Rug, Abu and Iago, flies to the lair of 40 robbers to meet his father.

Returning to the palace of Agrabah with Qasim, Aladdin introduces him to the Sultan and his wife. However, the greedy Iago incites Kasim to rob the Sultan's treasury. Catching them stealing, the Sultan imprisons Aladdin and Iago's father in a dungeon. Aladdin is horrified by his father's act, but secretly frees both him and Iago from the shackles and sets them free. Kasim returns to the lair of forty robbers, where in his absence the vile Sa Luk became the leader. The newly minted King of Thieves throws Kasim into a dungeon, but Iago manages to escape from the clutches of the robbers and he flies away to warn Aladdin. The young man, despite the fact that he feels anger and resentment against his father, frees him. Incredible adventures await them and the search for a magical artifact - the Hand of Midas, the battle with Sa Luk and victory. In the finale, Aladdin finally marries Jasmine.

Movies about Aladdin

"The New Adventures of Aladdin" 2016 is a modern Franco-Belgian adaptation of the well-known story about a poor Arab youth who, with the help of the Genie, went to win the princess. With the Disney cartoon, the comedy "The New Adventures of Aladdin" 2016 has in common only an exemplary outline and the "story within a story" technique. In the cartoon, a fairy tale about a magic lamp and the wonderful adventures of Aladdin is told by a traveling merchant under the cover of Arabian night on the streets of the fictional city of Agrabah, in the film, the place of the merchant is occupied by an animator (actually a thief) in a shopping center in Paris, who tells the kids a story about Aladdin, a young man who operates on the streets of Baghdad as a thief. The 2016 film The New Adventures of Aladdin is filled with slang and references to modern popular culture(here is the Ring of Omnipotence from The Lord of the Rings, and " star Wars”) and is generally designed primarily for a young audience. In the Russian box office, the movie was released in 2016, and Aladdin was voiced by Philip Kirkorov.

Musical "Aladdin"

Aladdin is the central character in the musical adaptation of the same name, a film starring Adam Jacobs leading role. Unlike the original Disney cartoon, in the musical, Aladdin has three human friends instead of a monkey friend named Abu. They, like Aladdin, are thieves. The musical included a song originally written for the cartoon "Aladdin" - "Proud of Your Boy" - as the part of the boy's mother, but it is sung by a street tramp. The musical also features "Diamond in a Rough" and "Million Miles Away". Despite some differences, the musical "Aladdin" is quite close to the original cartoon.

Aladdin at Disney Parks

Aladdin is present in some Disneylands as a welcome character. Most often, he is accompanied by Princess Jasmine, and sometimes by Genie. In summer, Aladdin in Disney parks looks like a street tramp in an appropriate outfit, and in winter - like Prince Ali Ababua.

Criticism and public perception

It is known that the cartoon "Aladdin" was subjected to massive criticism of the Islamic Commission on Human Rights because of the negative image of Muslims in the picture. The main complaint was that, apart from the progressive and positive Aladdin, there was virtually no Muslim in the cartoon who could pass for decent person. Exactly everyone was depicted in a negative way: greedy, evil and people striving for wealth and power.

Despite criticism, kind and instructive story loved by the whole world

In addition, the original version of the general theme music"Aladdin" "Arabian Night" was rejected by representatives of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, as it contained the following lines that form a negative stereotype about Muslims: "Where will they cut off your ear if they don't like your face ..." ("Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face…”). In the end, after complaints from such organizations, the lyrics of the song were changed to a more harmless one.

Abu is a character from the cartoon "Aladdin", released back in 1992. The animation was created based on the legendary work "1001 Nights". In this article, you can learn about the hero of the cartoon "Aladdin" Abu, about his appearance in the picture and about the history of the creation of this work.

Abu. Appearance in cartoon

The character Abu is a friend and assistant to the main character of the cartoon - Aladdin, it was not by chance that he came to him. The little fearful monkey was imprisoned by street circus performers who robbed people during performances. Abu helped them in this dishonest business.

When trying to steal money from one of the spectators, Aladdin noticed him and tried to stop him. As a result, vile swindlers were imprisoned, and Abu and Aladdin remained to live together. Despite the fact that the monkey tries not to face the danger face to face, she still helps her friend and shows heroism. Thanks to Abu, Aladdin got the coveted lamp.

About the character

Abu has a cheerful nature, likes to participate in all sorts of adventures, and also helps Aladdin in various situations. The character of "Aladdin" Abu differs from other monkeys in intelligence and the ability to speak. People do not understand the hero’s speech well, but the parrot Iago translates the words of a friend into an understandable language.

If you look at the appearance of the character, then it should be attributed to monkeys, as he is very quirky and small. Almost all the time, Abu is dressed in a purple sleeveless jacket and a small cap on his head in an oriental style. His costume is exactly the same as what Aladdin is wearing.

Abu and Aladdin are close friends and never leave each other in trouble.

Adventures of Abu in the cartoon

Aladdin meets Princess Jasmine and spends time with her. Meanwhile, the Sultan's Vizier finds out about the magic lamp in which the genie lives. Then he sends a street thief after her. The thief who made his way to the Cave of Wonders did not manage to get the lamp, he was killed by the keeper. Having learned that only one person, Aladdin, can get the lamp, the vizier orders the young man to be detained, saying that he is a thief. Beautiful Jasmine was upset by this turn of events. Jafar (that was the name of the vizier) offers Aladdin freedom in exchange for a lamp. Once in the cave, Abu the monkey steals the jewels, and the walls of the cave begin to narrow. Jafar pushed the young man and his little friend into the abyss. When it turned out that Abu stole the lamp, the main characters call the genie and escape. A photo of Abu from the cartoon "Aladdin" can be seen in this article.

Abu and Aladdin save Jasmine

Aladdin makes a wish on the genie to become Prince Ali in order to please Jasmine. Jafar wants to marry Jasmine, and so that nothing will stop him, he orders to remove Prince Ali. The Sultan's vizier sends Abu and Aladdin to a remote desert island, from where he gets out with the help of a genie. Bursting into the palace, Aladdin asks to arrest the villain, but he manages to escape punishment with the help of magic. Parrot Iago, together with Aladdin's monkey Abu, in order to save the main character, steal a lamp and call a genie. Then he becomes the Sultan of Agrabah, but this does not prevent Jafar from continuing his atrocities. Aladdin goes to the trick. Declaring that genies are stronger than sorcerers, Jafar makes his last wish - to become the most majestic genie. The wish was granted and he was sucked into the lamp. Having defeated the villain, the Sultan of Agrabah repeals the law that a princess can only marry a person from a noble family. Jasmine and Aladdin are getting married.

Creation, animation, dubbing

In 1988, a poet suggested that Walt Disney Pictures create an animation based on the legendary work. Then songs, poems and the script of the desired cartoon were developed. The main draw was the characters. Many heroes had a character different from the fairy tales "1001 Nights". Aladdin was supposed to be only thirteen years old, but in the cartoon he is eighteen. The main characters are similar to geometric shapes. The Sultan was depicted as an oval, and Jasmine as an hourglass. The screenwriter wanted Jafar to be different from other characters, so a cartoonist was involved in his creation. The cartoons were translated into Russian only twelve years later - in 2004. Olga Voeikova became the director and translator. Unlike the original version, in the dub, the characters are voiced and the vocal parts are performed by different people.
