The musical performance consists of different fairy worlds. It includes meetings with wizards, and a journey to a mysterious flowering garden, and contemplation of the northern lights, and songs of polar bears, and the story of a polar expedition, and a real jousting tournament ... And the ending of a fairy tale story depends solely on the decision of the audience.

For the heroes of "Ice Cream Tales" this is quite a common thing. For some tales, the actors chase on roller skates, others look out on stilts, some are collected barefoot.

Premieres at the theater Sats

Going to the theater for ballet or opera is always significant event in the life of every theatergoer, but it becomes even more special if the performance is a premiere. The beauty of the premiere is that there is an element of surprise. So, if the viewer knows what to expect from a production that has been in the theater’s repertoire for many years, then from watching the premiere performance he develops his own opinion, not based on the reviews of other theatergoers and critics. Buying tickets for the premieres of Moscow theaters is an opportunity to become a kind of pioneer. In addition, this is a wonderful chance to enjoy the brilliant acting, because it is at the premieres that the artists try to perfectly present their images so that the viewer can appreciate and fall in love with the performance presented.

Denis Kataev:

I selected only those performances that I saw on the Moscow stage during the year. The theater this time existed in a special regime of turbulence. Everything was overshadowed by the case of Kirill Serebrennikov and the Seventh Studio. But at the same time that the director himself was under house arrest, it is his productions, which he managed to realize even before the process, that are one of the most high-profile and memorable this year.

Under the fifth number - the unconditional success of the Musical Theater of Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko "Suite in white" Serge Lifar. With her, he started his own revolution in Stasik new artistic director ballet company Laurent Hilaire. And in the end - an unconditional success. His evenings of one-act ballets are the main ballet event of the year, apart from the premiere of Nureyev. The Frenchman skillfully and competently fits our theater into the international context and introduces the Russian public to the important names of the world's choreographers, who are customary to have in the repertoire of respected European and American venues. Last season, modern classics were fired, works by Lifar, Kilian and Forsyth were shown. And here is a fresh premiere - four new ballets, three of which are on stage for the first time in Russia. These are textbook Balanchine, modern Paul Taylor, ethnic Jacques Garnier and progressive Alexander Ekman. In these evenings, Hilaire continues to acquaint us with the history of modern choreography of the 20th and 21st centuries. There is nothing revolutionary and avant-garde for an advanced public in these names. However, in our country, unfortunately, even these names on the poster are rare. Continuous Grigorovich and Petipa. Although in world practice this is what is called must-see. At the same time, Hilaire enlightens the audience, more precisely shows how dance has changed over time, how the classics gradually turned into postmodernism and avant-garde and became neoclassical. Thus, in one evening in Stanislavsky you can get an idea of the most important styles and trends of modern choreography, and of course, connect the legacy of great schools with today's trends in the viewer's head. It turns out such a ballet mini-encyclopedia on one stage, in which there are names that made a revolution. This is a certain mission, which the new artistic director of the Stanislavsky Theater skillfully copes with.

One of the main events of the year in the theater is the return of Anatoly Vasiliev to the stage. At the International Chekhov Festival, he showed his first premiere after 17 years of silence. This is the play "The Old Man and the Sea" by Hemingway. And he dedicated it to his teacher, Yuri Lyubimov, whose 100th birthday we also celebrated this year.

Spectacle "The Old Man and the Sea"- chamber project. Only Alla Demidova is on stage, playing either an old man, or a narrator, or herself, and somehow magically reads Hemingway's text. But in such a way that the viewer remains chained from what is happening on the stage. And there are no crazy special effects. Only a man-made miracle, fine jewelry work. On the stage, only the color changes, the sea is worried, sometimes the very lions that the old man dreamed of appear, only in a circus and exaggerated form in the form of a Chinese doll, the sea is worried twice, and, of course, the same big fish and her leviathan, that is, the skeleton, the sea is agitated three. Even the necessary mug on the table froze. And in the hall - not a rustle. Everyone is afraid to disturb, frighten off the incredible miracle that is happening on stage. The performance strikes with visual power and impeccability, when the rag sea dotted with sequins “boils”, but in reality it is just translucent blue sails fluttering on the stage. But what does it matter to machinery when such magic is born here before our eyes. The whole performance is the experience of the actress experiencing online, here and now something incredible and unique is happening on the stage. Because this is a perishable performance, unique, which would be useful to catch. It is fleeting like a delicacy. "The Old Man and the Sea" is an homage theatrical art from Demidova and Vasiliev, which will definitely be included in textbooks. Nothing literally, pure art, poetry on the stage, which is seen and perceived in one breath.

The most important tour project - "Night at the Library" Robert Lepage, shown at the festival "Territory". A very important educational story in a nice package.

Robert Lepage often visits Moscow. This time he came up with a humanistic virtual project "Night in the Library". Lepage creates his own territory of meanings, invites you on a tour of the best libraries in the world, which you can visit in one sitting, just by putting on a VR helmet in a dark space specially built in the Multimedia Art Museum. Inside is a story about the most important libraries - from the very legendary Alexandria, burned down and updated, to a fictional underwater one that Captain Nemo collected. And all these are not just book depositories, but places of innovation, progress and simply victory over wars, conflicts and darkness. The key episode is the library in Sarajevo, which becomes a place of peace, a besieged fortress, a territory of common sense, in the center of the blood-stained Balkan Peninsula. It is there that, against all odds, a cellist plays in the fire in protest against the war. But the library is also a dangerous place, an ambivalent institution. This is both a paradise of knowledge and hell at the same time, hell, because only there you realize the richness and infinity of intellectual thought, and only there you can feel despair from the fact that you will never be able to turn the last page.

The most important radical performance of the year - "Magic Mountain" Konstantin Bogomolov at the Electrotheatre. The director got rid of Thomas Mann, but it was worth it.

Cough and only cough for half an hour. And nothing more. Only death and emptiness. Total oblivion and inaction. Only Bogomolov could have staged such a radical and challenging performance for us. And here he, in his special sophisticated method, reaches the limit. He saw doom in the texts of Mann, "here death erected a throne for itself." Death is the essence of everything in this world, death is the explanation of life and love, death is “the limit of our aspirations”: right along Montaigne. Inside this rusty and hopeless structure are two moribundus, that is, terminally ill, played by Bogomolov himself and actress Elena Morozova. They cough endlessly in this metaphysical tuberculosis sanatorium, and the audience coughs in unison with the actors. They are the same doomed patients. It seems that this is no longer life, but purgatory. But quotes from death from no less great Russian writers - Nekrasov, Zabolotsky and Shalamov - bring back to life. Only artists can tell so beautifully about the withering of nature and man. “Shivering from torment, a lightning bolt ran over the world…”. Among the creators of death is Bogomolov himself. His lyrics sound even more radical. About an old woman, for example, who confused pregnancy with cancer.

So it turns out such a poetic evening dedicated to the most taboo topic in the world. It is, of course, on this moment the most uncompromising statement of Konstantin Bogomolov, his most ruthless creative outburst.

And finally. Hero of the Year - Kirill Serebrennikov. And not just because of the process. And all because he showed best performances lately, apparently foreseeing something. There is something visionary and tragic in this. In each of the two productions, which can be safely called the best this year. One - in the Bolshoi, the other - in the native Gogol Center.

"Nureyev" beautiful and beyond scandal. Not only the theater, but also the country should be proud of this work. A multi-component complex, I would even say a gigantic statement: there is ballet, opera, and a choir on stage, dramatic artists. “Nureyev” by Serebrennikov tells about the total freedom of the artist, which is above everything, even the most difficult circumstances, about his leap to freedom and desire to live. The refrain in the ballet is the phrase, more relevant than ever now - "Nureyev always loved Russia, but hated the system." This is a performance about talents and heroes that our country does not appreciate. That, unfortunately, is still happening. In addition to the idea in this performance, the multi-component music of the composer Ilya Demutsky is also beautiful, in which one can hear quotes from the works in which Nureyev was involved - from Giselle, La Bayadère and " swan lake". Well, what about the unique sound of the Soviet machine, which tightens the screws and does not let Nureyev breathe, forcing him to run away to Paris. This is a manifesto of freedom, very important for the director who decided it. A lot of Nureyev's biography intersects with today's events around Kirill Serebrennikov. So here it is - the ability of the artist to foresee. He did it. And somehow a letter to Nureyev from Alla Osipenko from the stage sounds very modern: “everyone could bring glory to Russia”, “thank God, you all remained Russian, did not betray.” Again, against the odds. This is how Serebrennikov said in the courtroom: I have been working in Russia for many years. I am an honest person. I want Russia to go from being a provincial to a great cultural power.”

"Little Tragedies" according to Pushkin, the director, who is now under house arrest, came out terribly emotional, timely and very personal. Seemingly worn to holes from the school bench at Serebrennikov, he acquires new life. And coal, blazing with fire, pushed into the chest. His words again sound bright, cooler than the most powerful rap battle, After all, on the stage is a new poet of our time, successor, rapper Husky, who adds his drop of tar to this gloomy world. It would seem, like Faust, I want to drown everything in this dull and hopeless world. But Serebrennikov says - Burn! And burns on stage. Verb, enthusiasm and a unique visual embodiment. In general, this is not just a performance - it is rather a total multi-genre and multi-format installation, another journey through Russia, where everything is completely mixed up and mixed up. Siri with a pioneer tie, the phrase "Matilda's pure spirit is calling you!" with a cyborg that turns into either Mozart or a rock musician. On the one hand, this is a very sinister performance, with horror in the prologue, but at the end it still leaves hope, which is so necessary during the plague. It is also a visionary production for Serebrennikov himself. It is impossible to tear off what is happening from the context of the process over itself.

Recently, the Stuttgart Opera premiered his unfinished production "Hansel and Gretel". Serebrennikov did not have time to finish, the arrest prevented the rehearsals from starting. This is a multi-genre work, where theater and cinema are in one. Serebrennikov, of course, seriously revised and modernized the fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm. The action takes place in today's Europe, in the center - migrants, immigrants from Africa, Serebrennikov even went to Africa, to Rwanda, to shoot local teenagers, all documentary footage was shown in Stuttgart. But so far it was only a sketch of a future performance dedicated to the director under arrest. In Stuttgart, they hope that Serebrennikov will continue his work soon. I hope that next year the director will still be released and will be able to complete his new projects. Including filming the film "Summer".

Inna Churikova at the Theater of Nations, "Circus" by Maxim Didenko and much more

Mayakovsky Theater

crazy money

Ostrovsky is the clear leader of the season: following the RAMT, the Theater of Nations and the ShDI, Mayakovka also turned to him. Even if you have not read the play, by the name of this “comedy of obsession”, as its genre is defined, it is not difficult to guess that it will be about money, more precisely, about one of the most strong passions human - the thirst to possess capital in order to live beautifully and bathe in luxury. Alas, most of the characters here fall perfectly under the definition of "the money is over - the habits remain." True, they do not intend to give up, and on the way to wealth, all means are good for them, but life sometimes fools even the most prudent players ... By the way, the premiere is timed to coincide with the anniversary of actress Svetlana Nemolyaeva - she plays "a lady with important manners" Nadezhda Antonovna Cheboksarova.

Gogol Center

Milk

Fiction, fantasy, dream - the play by Ekaterina Mavromatis "Milk", based on the new performance by Denis Azarov, can be interpreted as you like, but everything is clear with the idea: a woman will save the world - with patience, love and ... milk. In this simultaneously funny and sad utopia, exhibitionists operate, troubled teenagers, strange adults and even penguins, and one thing unites these diverse characters - it is difficult for them to live. The point of attraction, and then the salvation for all of them, will be the girl Zoya - it would seem that she is completely ordinary, even ordinary, but only until she has paranormal abilities, and thanks to them the world suddenly begins to change dramatically for the better.

Theater of Nations

Audience

When announcing this performance, it is difficult to resist the epithets “imperial” or “royal”, and the point is not only that it is actually dedicated to the queen british empire, but also in its creators: director - Gleb Panfilov, Elizabeth II is played by Inna Churikova. The strongest team has gathered: here are Gorevoy-Churchill, and Tyunina-Thatcher, and Kharitonov, and Lobotsky, but the queen, of course, is out of competition, and the Audiences are sold out. The author of the play, Peter Morgan, together with Panfilov, specially adapted it "for us", giving Special attention British-Russian relations. The retelling of the plot will fit into a few words: “Every Tuesday at 18:00 the Queen of Great Britain gives an audience to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom ...” - but behind this are the most significant world events from the middle of the twentieth century to the present day, seen, meaningful, passed through oneself of the greatest women of our time ... Fans of psychologism will be delighted, we promise.

Theater of Nations

The circus

Grigory Alexandrov's cult comedy "The Circus" - one of the pathos symbols of the 1930s - will get a new life, embodied on stage through the efforts of Maxim Didenko, a great master of theatrical tricks in the very best sense. The well-known plot, in general, will remain in force, but will be presented in the style of retro-futurism with the involvement of the maximum impact forces. We are waiting for a live orchestra, clowns, rides, soviet songs and marches interpreted by composer Ivan Kushnir, illusionist scenery by Maria Tregubova and a wonderful ensemble of actors led by Ingeborge Dapkunaite - she will play both the American circus performer Marion Dixon and the Soviet artist Lyubov Orlova. They promise that it will be creepy and fun - everything is like in a real circus.

Practice

Numerous variations on the theme “would” are well known to all of us: if only, it would be nice, if only ... Someone torments himself, lamenting about what didn’t happen, someone fantasizes or dreams, the cherished particle helps others to figure out options and choose the best, but more often everything “would” is a sign of unrealizability or irreversibility ... The indestructible desire to reverse the course of events and at least speculatively experience what was not, but could be, is dedicated to the premiere of the Brusnikin Workshop in “Practice”. Director - Dmitry Sokolov, cast - Sergei Karaban, Mikhail Plutakhin, Yuri Mezhevich, Igor Titov; for fans of the Brusnikites - a must.

Workshop of Peter Fomenko

Souls

Regulars of the Workshop will surely remember the fantasy on the theme of the late Gogol “Chichikov. Dead Souls. Volume Two”, but these “Souls” are a completely different story. The director was the actor Fyodor Malyshev - the Fomenkovites themselves call him the record holder for the number of main roles, but this record is clearly not enough for Fyodor, and he is also realized as a director. Previously, he staged a concert-yes-not a concert here " funny man”According to Dostoevsky, now he took up Dead Souls. The new work promises a lot: among the actors are Polina Agureeva and Evgeny Tsyganov, completely unrecognizable here (by the way, try to guess what role he got, it’s unlikely to work the first time), the artist is Pavel Kaplevich, and the choreographer is unexpectedly Nikita Kukushkin from Gogol -center. Well, where the troika-Rus is rushing, according to Malyshev, we will find out very soon.

Workshop of Peter Fomenko

Captain Fracasse

And one more premiere - the romantic-historical-adventure "Captain Fracasse" staged by Yevgeny Kamenkovich himself. The novel by Theophile Gauthier was written more than a century and a half ago, but it is still fresh, interesting and intriguing no less than modern bestsellers, so it is not surprising that the performance mainly involves young people - from the new galaxy of Fomenkov's interns to the audience's favorite Ambartsum Kabanyan. Thanks to them, we will set off on a journey along the roads of France in the company of itinerant actors and the young impoverished Baron Augustin de Signonac, who, having fallen in love with the beautiful actress Isabella, defied all the rules of decency, joined the actors and even ventured onto the stage in the role of the ridiculous Captain Fracasse ...

Pushkin Theater

This wonderful Life

Let me warn you right away: despite the title, this is not a 1940s adaptation of Frank Capra's film of the same name, although the action also takes place in America, moreover, one of the characters is ... Frank Capra himself. The main characters of this sitcom are an acting couple, George and Charlotte Hay. Once they shone in the movies and bathed in the rays of glory, and now, forgotten by everyone, they are content with their own tiny theater in the town of Buffalo, but do not lose hope for a miracle. And a miracle happens: in search of heroes for their new painting a famous director comes to Buffalo, and the Hay couple understands that they cannot miss this chance for anything ... Starring Igor Bochkin and - attention! - Specially invited Elena Yakovleva.

Electrotheatre Stanislavsky

boring story

Don't let the name confuse you: Chekhov, whose story is based on this play, has no boring texts, and, as you know, you don't get bored at the Electrotheatre. In fact, this is the story of one soul, tormented by anxieties, doubts, disappointments, and it is not for nothing that the director Vasily Skvortsov decided to place the action in the entourage of the anatomy room: we are in for a difficult, but important process of dissection human life and fate. The hero himself would very much like to put things in order in his inner world and find harmony, but it seems too late, and not only those close to him suffer from this, but first of all he himself. In general, we recommend that you treat "A Boring Story" as a good occasion to look into yourself if you haven't done this for a long time...

Tararaboombia

This brainchild of Dmitry Krymov is already 7 years old, but it is shown so rarely that we are obliged to take it to our spring top. Created for the 150th anniversary of Chekhov's birth, "Tararabumbia" was staged in an unusual procession format and simultaneously refers to parades Soviet years and to the ball at Woland's. Dozens of actors, hundreds of costumes, technical stunts and visual effects- all the poetry of Chekhov's prose, all the associations born of it, all the many-sided heroes are embodied in this unimaginable extravaganza with such fiction, which only Krymov is capable of. Imagine interpreted by Meyerhold " The Cherry Orchard"in the scenery of Bosch - this is how Tararaboumbia will look like, although no imagination is enough to imagine what you will actually see. Moscow is experiencing a boom in musicals: the characters begin to sing about their feelings even where they only talked before. Nevertheless, the beginning of the season will bring not only singing premieres, but also unexpected Shakespeare, Bulgakov and Gogol. Can you imagine Alexander Kalyagin as the talkative youth Khlestakov, and Oleg Menshikov as the bloody killer Macbeth? And they promise to play such roles.

Clockwork orange

If there is a 15-year-old bastard in the world who enjoys rape and murder, what to do with him? What should the state do with it? It's supposed to heal - and in Anthony Burgess's 1962 dystopia, teenage gang leader Alex is "coded" for violence. And it even seems to work - but what about his victims, who found the already "safe" Alex on the street? Forgive or recoup for his misfortunes, taking advantage of the fact that he can no longer defend himself? The cult novel, based on which Stanley Kubrick made a film in the early 1970s (Malcolm McDowell, who received the main role, was almost twice as old as his hero, and the story took on a completely different color), is now becoming a performance - directed by Philip Grigoryan. The text was revised by playwrights Yuri Klavdiev and Ilya Kukharenko, and besides, it was skipped back and forth several times through Google Translate - in order to achieve that wildness and angularity of the language that Burgess's characters spoke "in the future".

Pride and Prejudice

The Moscow Art Theater already had the experience of staging a musical, and extremely successful - in 2008, The Little Humpbacked Horse directed by Evgeny Pisarev appeared here, which is still going on with excellent drive. Now Jane Austen's novel is turning into a musical - and the team that created O'Henry's Christmas at the Pushkin Theater is releasing it (despite the fact that not singers, but dramatic actors participated in the performance, in the spring this musical became a triumph at the "Golden Mask" The same composer - Peter Ekstrom, the same director - Alexei Frandetti, and the same artist - Timofey Ryabushinsky. The action will mainly take place in English gardens and parks, and Stanislav Belyaev will become Mr. Darcy.

Cinderella

Exactly one week later, competitors begin to lure the audience - the Stage entertainment company, which specializes in transferring the best foreign musicals to Russia, releases a performance based on a well-known fairy tale. This version by Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein first appeared on television in 1957 - on the night of the premiere, more than 107 million Americans (out of 170 available) stuck to their boxes to see Julia Andrews in the title role. Since then, the film has been loved in the States as much as we have "Cinderella" with Yanina Zheymo - but there are much more songs in it. Already in our century, he migrated to Broadway - and now the Russian version of history is being created in Moscow. The text is translated by Aleksey Ivashchenko.

Festival "Territory"

No escapes from reality and no songs - we turn on the hard modern theater. The program of the fest includes the premieres of the Gogol Center (The Age of the Wolfhound; a play about Osip Mandelstam is staged by Anton Adasinsky) and the Theater of Nations (Yvonne, Princess of Burgundy by Witold Gombrowicz, staged by Grzegorz Jazhyna) - a sarcastic and bitter story, as it were, of Cinderella, found at the royal court), as well as visits by German and French theater companies. One of the main events of the festival is the tour of the Novosibirsk theater "Red Torch" with the play "The Process", created by Timofey Kulyabin. The director, who was put on trial two years ago for staging Tannhäuser at the Novosibirsk Opera House, was acquitted in this court - but the very absurdity of the director's accusation for the actions of his character could not but strike the director's imagination. And Kafka's "Trial" appeared.

On the stages: Theater of Nations, Electrotheater "Stanislavsky", "Helikon-Opera", "Gogol Center", Center. Meyerhold
Festival October 10-22

circus princess

"Always be in a mask - fate-and mine-me ..." - the audience will not wait for this tragic cry of Mr. X: the operetta Imre Kalman has a new libretto composed by Alexei Ivashchenko. But suddenly they will receive a complete set circus performances- in addition to singers, 12 circus artists participate in the production. It is the circus man who releases the premiere - one of the founders of the Canadian troupe 7 fingers Sebastian Soldevilla.

Democracy

"Herr Guillaume, are you a spy?" - German Chancellor Willy Brandt could have asked his personal assistant in 1974 - and he could have answered “You see, Willy ...” Gunter Guillaume really was a spy and worked for East German intelligence - when everything was revealed, Brandt lost his post. This story - the story of the journey of the leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany to the heights of power and back - in the play by Michael Frein is told by Gunther Guillaume, who during his work has become attached to the boss betrayed by him. Artistic Director of the Youth Theater Alexei Borodin recently staged another story from the post-war German life- "Nuremberg"; apparently, in the history of the formation of the FRG, he sees some important lessons for us.

Kremlin gala

The traditional autumn concert gathers ballet stars from all over the world - the premiere of the English Royal Ballet Stephen McRae is promised, the prima of the San Francisco Ballet Maria Kochetkova, a large company of Berlin ballerinas and dancers, visitors from the Bolshoi and the Mariinsky, as well as our superstar Ivan Vasiliev, who appears too rarely in Moscow. Not only the composition of the participants is interesting, but also the extraordinary repertoire: Vasiliev, for example, puts a ballet called "Paratroopers" to the music of Giacomo Rossini. Among the hits of the program is Anton Dolin's ballet Variations for Four, which has never been shown in Russia before. Dolin (real name Sidney Francis Patrick Chippendale Healy-Kay, English premier of the Diaghilev troupe in his youth took a Russian pseudonym due to the fact that Russian name was a synonym High Quality Dance) in 1958 staged a performance for four virtuoso dancers, each of whom was presented as a symbol of one of the elements - Earth, Water, Fire and Air. In the Kremlin, these parts will be performed by representatives of four famous theaters peace.

Festival "Season of Stanislavsky"

Traditionally, only those theaters are brought to Moscow, whose legend is no less significant in history than the legend of the Art Theater. This autumn, we are waiting for the "Master of Hunger", which Eimuntas Nyakroshus (based on the story of Franz Kafka) staged in his Meno fortas in Vilnius, a one-man performance - the theatrical parable "Prompter" - made by Gesta Ekman in the Stockholm Dramaten, and love story"Year of Cancer" that Luc Perceval created based on the novel by Hugo Klaus for the Amsterdam Toneelgroep.

"Master of Hunger" October 27-28 on the stage of RAMT
"Prompter" on November 3 and 4 on the stage of MTYUZ
"Year of Cancer" November 16 and 17 on the stage of the Theater. Mayakovsky

Vampire Ball

A castle in the Alps inhabited by vampires, a young scientist and a beauty who needs to be saved. Fangs, devilish grins of bloodsuckers and cheerful music by Jim Steinman. And also - film director Roman Polanski, who directed the film "The Fearless Vampire Killers" in 1967, according to which this musical was subsequently made. That is - obligatory irony, obligatory horror and obligatory great feeling, covered with obligatory cynicism.

King Lear

The Maly Theatre, which traveled all over the country during the gigantic renovation of its building, is returning to Theater Square. The first premiere will be King Lear directed by Anton Yakovlev. Shakespeare has always been an "alien" author for the Maly Theater - for the detailed "Ostrovsky's house" Shakespeare's plays have always been too volatile. So this "Lear" is a challenge and a declaration: we can do more than you think about us. And as a challenge, the translation of Hosea Soroka was chosen - much closer in rough intonation to the original than the translations of Pasternak or Shchepkina-Kupernik. Boris Nevzorov is promised in the title role.

Premiere - November 2016

Queen of Spades

Tchaikovsky's opera musical theater named after Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko are staged by director Alexander Titel and conductor Alexander Lazarev - that is, those people who not so long ago created the amazing Khovanshchina there. What's important here? Take the overplayed score and pull out of it living life, honest suffering, murderous passion and an evil mockery of fate, to present to the audience - so that they then go home shaking their heads, and wondering what they previously considered the author to be too understandable or too familiar.

Billy Budd

In Benjamin Britten's opera, the action takes place in late XVIII century on an English warship - and, accordingly, in the opera there is not a single female role. Men on the ship sort things out in very tough ways - especially when one of them himself does not understand what he feels. The foreman begins to harass the subordinate sailor and provoke him to rebellion; neither the foreman himself nor the sailor understands the reason. Everything will end, of course, badly; but not for a happy ending, do we go to the opera? This time, let's follow the rarely performed in Russia music by Britten, the last great English composer of the 20th century, his complex and at the same time refined and clear music. The performance is produced by an English team: conductor William Lacy, director David Alden and set designer Paul Steinberg. And even the stage combat teacher is imported from the British Isles.

Oprichnik Day

The idea that already in 2027 Russia will have the Great Russian Wall, the sovereign and the Duma clerks seemed unrealistic to Mark Zakharov, and he shifted the time of the novel by Vladimir Sorokin 100 years ahead. He also added some episodes from Telluria to the text (which the writer himself insisted on), and worked on the play for almost 9 years, assembling each scene with jewelry. It is assumed that "The Day of the Oprichnik" will be a very cheerful performance. Well, if some too impressionable spectator wants to cry, they will not interfere either.

Macbeth

Another unexpected Shakespeare - Oleg Menshikov will play the leading role of a Scottish commander who has walked over the corpses to the royal throne. An artist who has been missing really big roles for decades and to whom the role of the dearest Kostya from Pokrovsky Gates has stuck like a curse. He never played Shakespeare - a tiny appearance on the stage of the Maly Theater in his student days, when he got the role of a messenger, does not count. "Macbeth" is a tragedy in which the scale of the actor is manifested; an unconditional exam for the current artistic director of the Yermolova Theater. The “Scottish play” (as the actors superstitiously call this work of Shakespeare) is being staged by the young director Alexei Razmakhov.

And one more drama theatre releases a musical - the same Alexei Frandetti, who makes "Pride and Prejudice" at the Moscow Art Theater, puts on "Sweeney Todd" at Taganka. Composer Stephen Sondheim called his 1979 Broadway composition a "black operetta" - the story of a barber who decides to avenge his ruined life and his lost wife and begins to kill customers is really dark, but very fascinating. (Most viewers will know her from Tim Burton's not-so-successful film with Johnny Depp.) Frandetti is going to make an "immersive musical" - that is, one where the audience is included in the action. At the end of last season, when the sketch of the performance was shown to the public, the audience was seated at tables and treated to pies. Considering that in the play the corpses organized by the barber went precisely into the stuffing for pies, it must be admitted that the theater jokes quite famously.

The Dragon

The play, written by Evgeny Schwartz in 1943, is eternal, and every decade he chooses his quotes in it. Sometimes slightly editing them - in the spirit of "this is not the people, this is worse than the people, this the best people cities". AND - " The best way get rid of the dragon - start your own. Put the "Dragon" in Art Theater there will be Konstantin Bogomolov, and this means that 115 parallel stories will be added to the classical text, and the finale will not at all remind Schwartz.

Auditor

And what happened to Khlestakov before he ended up in the county town? Maybe he was at all ... Akaky Akakievich Bashmachkin and was worried about his overcoat? Robert Sturua, who is staging a Gogol play at the Et Cetera theater, saw the protagonist no longer a young man, once completely defenseless, but then embittered at the cruel the world. main role he, accordingly, gave to Alexander Kalyagin. And the rest of the roles for the most part - to actors much younger. (Alexander Lazarev from Lenkom will become the mayor.) So, it seems, a very interesting topic will arise in the play - the topic of confrontation between generations, although Sturua himself does not promise this.

Master and Margarita

Sergey Zhenovach, taking Bulgakov's novel into work, is going to main theme performance to make the relationship precisely the Master and Margarita. Well, that is, Soviet Moscow and the story of Yeshua Ha-Notsri will also be in the play, but what happens between these heroes seems to Zhenovach the most important.

Chaadian

"My main character not just Chaadsky, but also a little Chaadaev, which in general does not contradict Griboyedov's plan, with which our Chaadsky is also associated with me, ”says composer Alexander Manotskov. He wrote the opera on the order of producer Pavel Kaplevich, who had long dreamed of the appearance of an opera based on "Woe from Wit" and acted as a co-author of the libretto himself. Kirill Serebrennikov will stage the performance at Helikon-Opera.

Three explosive seasons at the Kirov Theatre, a "jump into freedom" at a French airport, the capture of the ballet world and its capital - Paris, a hell of a job, an incredible sense of talent, dangerous entertainment, an arrogant look at everyone in the world and, finally, a grave on St. Genevieve-des-Bois, covered with a mosaic carpet, from which the fans keep poking colored stones.
