Select a frame. Before anything, buy a frame you like. Pay maximum attention to its size, the material from which it is made, relief, etc. It should be noted that wood gives a special grace, and plastic looks more and more simply.

Choose a drawing. If it is just some color, then this item should be missed, if you plan to make a drawing, then first draw it on a piece of paper. Cut the paper to the size of the purchased frame and sketch.

Choose a color. Take a look at the photo. The color of the frame should emphasize it. At the same time, do not use too bright colors, because the frame should fit into the room.

Buy paint and primer. Frames can be covered different types: from paints with color shades to natural woods. Each looks different, and which one to choose is up to you. You can also buy and use silver and gold plating. This will further add to the uniqueness of the gift. If you want to use acrylic paint, then pay attention: if you want it to shine, buy glossy, if on the contrary, you don’t want it, buy matte.

Primer. This item is relevant only for a wooden frame. Use a brush or roller to prime the frame and let it dry for a couple of hours. After priming, the paint will lay down well and not be absorbed into the wood.

Coloring. Attach the drawn drawing (if any) and transfer it with a pencil to the frame. Next, paint in your chosen colors. Let it dry.

Wipe the frame well, getting rid of dust and dirt. If it's a wood frame, prime it with an acrylic primer. A polymer or plastic frame can be painted immediately. Take light gray acrylic paint, cover the frame with one coat. Wait for the layer to dry.

Take untreated rice paper (such paper is used for decoupage on glass, it can be found in an art store), this is a structural material that absorbs moisture perfectly. Make a small swab. You can also take a napkin, but it should not leave fibers on the frame. With a swab, apply gold paint to the frame over the gray layer.

Prepare the glaze - in a small jar, make a mixture of blue, green and white acrylic paints. It is better to start with white and pour colored into it. Mix, but not completely, to get a non-uniform color from several independent shades. Glaze the frame with a swab. Before it dries, erase it in several places so that the gilding shows through. The first gray layer will acquire a patina shade.

Instead of acrylic paint, you can use special gilding, for example, tompak “under”, sold in the form of sheets. It looks very impressive, gives the impression of real gilding, but is cheaper. First, it is better to cover the frame with colored paint of any shade, you can take both dark and light. Paint over the curly sections of the frame well. Apply tombac special glue to ensure that the metal adheres to the surface. Let the glue dry a little, but it should remain tacky. Lay the tombac sheet, removing the backing. With a small brush, smooth and press it into the surface of the frame. The remaining scales that are not stuck to the frame, sweep with a clean brush. Then rub natural umber into the profile of the frame with a piece of cloth, thus achieving the effect of antiquity.

You can frame without gilding, to do this, cover it with stain, making a test smear from the wrong side. If the color is too dark, dilute with water. Dry the frame, run in several places with sandpaper. Cover the surface with white water-based paint, and while it is still wet, wipe with a soft cloth. If you like the result, dry the frame and coat it with liquid wax.

There is a fairly simple way out of this situation - you need to artificially age your furniture. It will not take much time and effort, and the purchase of materials that will be needed for work will not hit your wallet hard.

Paraffin or wax rub all the edges and corners of the product. Choose the color of your future "antique" furniture. Looks good pale pink or ivory. Create your own color by mixing white paint with color. A few drops added to the jar will be enough.

The brown base should be completely hidden under the layers of new paint, these layers can be from two to four. Be sure to dry each layer well.

Take sandpaper with grain size 800. Sand the places that you rubbed with a candle. The base paint will rub off and expose the brown. Rub gently so that there are no "burrs". For greater reliability, work unevenly, somewhere rub harder, in other places make only a hint of wear.

Use a soft brush to remove dust from the surface. If you want to further decorate the furniture, cut out from napkins floral patterns and paste on the chosen place. After that, cover the entire product with a matte varnish. This technique is called shabby chic.

Try aging furniture with brushing. Treat the surface with a metal brush, it will remove the soft fibers of the wood and brightly highlight its texture. Apply a layer of paint, its color should be dark. Without waiting for the product to dry, rub it deep into the pores and cracks of the wood. The entire structure of the wood will be clearly visible. Finishing varnish can be taken with various effects - metallic, mother-of-pearl.

Things aged using the crackle technique look spectacular. Apply new paint to the furniture, and after a few minutes - a means for creating cracks (craquelure). It can be a two-component varnish or paint. When working with them, act clearly according to the instructions, since there is no single recommendation for different means.

I have long wanted to write a post about how to make a frame look old. There are a lot of ways to do this, but today we will talk about vinegar and metal. In the future I will write about other ways to tint a tree that I found in an old book.

We take a regular frame, the material is pine.

Of the tools: a hammer, a nail to simulate a bark beetle, pliers, sandpaper, a brush, Gedeo Ageing Patina, vinegar tincture on rusty metal. You can also use a brush for metal or a mini-drill with different nozzles, but I’ll write about this next time.

I made a tincture of apple cider vinegar and a bunch of rusty keys. You can take nails, screws, etc. But you first need to experiment with color, different metals and wood, on which the patina will be applied, give different shades. You also need to take into account the exposure time, if you do not finish it, then there will be a light shade, if you overdo it, it can turn rotten, and you will get dirt. I lasted for about a day.

The first stage - just apply the patina, as it dries, the wood will darken.

Then we make an imitation of a bark beetle and apply a patina in several layers to the desired shade.

I used the Gedeo Ageing Patina to blacken the veins and corners, then we process it with sandpaper and bring the frame to the desired look. Actually pGedeo Aging satin is very similar to bituminous varnish, I think you should not give 300-400 rubles (I don’t remember exactly how much I bought) for such cases, if you can replace it with bituminous varnish for 50 rubles.

Sometimes the style of the interior requires the use of certain items in it. For example, Provence, vintage, shabby chic styles involve decorating the interior with various antique items. How to age a frame for a picture and a photo

What you need to age a wooden frame:

- a simple wooden frame;
– acrylic paint Brown color, used as a basis;
- white acrylic paint
- acrylic craquelure varnish;
- brush.

Step 1. Paint the frame with base paint.

The base paint is needed to clearly highlight the cracks, so you need to choose contrasting colors of the base paint and the paint that will crack. In our case, brown was chosen as the basis, that is, it is he who “peeps out” at the site of the cracks.

We lay the frame on a newspaper or any other surface that it will not be a pity to stain with paint.

Paint the frame with brown acrylic paint in one layer.

In our case, just one layer is enough - the paint lays down in a completely dense layer. Even if there are “bald spots” somewhere, this is not scary, since crater varnish will still be applied on top and White paint, which will close any defects in the main dark coating.
Leave the paint to dry for 1-2 hours (acrylic paint dries very quickly).

Step 2. Paint the frame with crater varnish.

Crater varnish is the coating that provides the cracks. But it is not he who cracks, but the paint that is applied to him.

It looks like a pretty normal nail polish.

We apply varnish to the frame. What will be the layer of varnish, it's up to you. The most important thing is that no matter what it is, there will still be cracks. That is, even a beginner will not be mistaken. If the layer is made thin, then the cracks will be small, if thicker, they will be pronounced.

We paint the frame and leave the varnish to dry for 2 parts (not less).

Step 3. Apply a layer of white acrylic paint.

We paint the frame White color by brushing quickly over the surface.

Cracks appear instantly.

It is important to be able to paint over the entire width of the frame in just one stroke, without lifting the brush. It is better to pre-work out this "operation" on any other surface. Why is it so important? Because when passing with a brush over the same place, it breaks the pattern of cracks: they have already appeared, and we, passing again with a brush, apply another layer of paint that no longer cracks.
In addition, by swiping a second time in the same place, you can literally smear the drawing.

It looks like this.

AT this case such a small smeared area even gives more decorative effect, but it is important that such a “decor” does not prevail over cracks, that is, there should be more of them than smeared areas.

The paint dries in 1-2 hours. After drying, the cracks become more distinct, the texture we need appears.
