Alexandra Macke, aka Alma, is one of the most promising performers in show business in France, according to many experts.

From childhood, Alma was fond of music, she sang with her sisters, played the piano.

While studying at the institute, she went on a journey that inspired her so much that the girl began to write author's songs.

As soon as Alexandra graduated from the institute, immediately took up music professionally. This decision entailed a move from Lyon to Paris. In the capital, she made acquaintance with the eminent composer Nazim Khaled. In many ways, he helped Alma find himself and open up as a singer.

Now Alexandra is actively working on the creation of her first album. It is scheduled to be released in May 2017. Many songs will be presented by Nazim Khaled, but this is not the only composer with whom Alma collaborates - Renaud Rebillaud, David Gategno, etc.

If you study the singer's repertoire, then we can conclude that many of her compositions are dedicated to love and death. The singer says that she loves to sing on sore topics, putting a particle of herself into each composition. In songs, she tries to show the line that exists between harsh reality and a pure dream, and also to explain how important it is to be able to balance on it.

When French broadcaster named Alma the official representative of France at the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv in 2017 year, the singer did not hide her joy. The girl noted that she was proud of the responsibility entrusted to her, and therefore would do everything in her power to represent France with dignity at the Euroshow.

In Kyiv, she will present the song "Requiem", which raises the theme of the search for eternal love. This is a lyrical and very beautiful composition that will present the owner of a unique voice in all its glory in front of all of Europe.

IN THE HEADING "NEW NAME" we talk about promising newcomers: musicians, directors, artists and other creative people - that is, everyone whose name is increasingly appearing on the pages of magazines, in social media feeds and in our conversations and who is clearly on the threshold of great success.

ALMA

“All we need is one single miracle, after which things will go uphill much easier,” arguing about why Finland still lags behind its Scandinavian neighbors in terms of pop exports, 21-year-old Alma-Sofia Miettinen - or simply ALMA - chooses the simplest explanation. She herself does not hide the fact that she wants to become the first Finnish pop star on an international scale (Bomfunk MC's, your objections will be taken into account by the court). For this, the former participant of the Idols show really has a good launching pad: Major Universal attached her as a guest vocalist to another promising newcomer, her peer Felix Yen, and their single " Bonfire"Became the locomotive that pulled the aspiring singer into the charts.

ALMA is a worthy addition to the ranks of the wild flowers of Scandinavian urban pop: not so much Zara Larsson as Tove Lu, with her provocative sexuality, and MØ, with her habits of a queen of robbers. Finca, dedicating her first album to etched hair, enjoys a teenage rebellion against provincial boredom. And this in itself is a good fuel for punchy pop music that wants to attract attention. Alma is doing well so far - how successful it will be to evaluate on July 22 at the festival "

Bet on the unknown

In early February, the general public heard a new name in the French song - Alma (Alma). The state company France Télévisions then announced that this young singer will represent France in Kyiv on May 13 at Eurovision 2017.

Making their choice, the French TV people - for the umpteenth time - took a risk: an audience of 200 million viewers (as many Europeans watched the popular competition a year ago) decided to introduce an almost unknown singer.

28-year-old Alexandra Maquet - or Alma - only started her musical career in France last summer. The first "pen test" in June 2016 was her song "La chute est lente", posted on YouTube.

life on the road

Alexandra-Alma became interested in music in her youth, moving from playing the piano to writing her own songs. It was only recently that she decided to leave her studies at a business school for a musical career. The debut at the age of 28 is explained simply: having been born in Lyon, Alma spent many years abroad - in Los Angeles, Milan, Brussels, Sao Paulo and Miami. The job of my father, an employee of an international computer company, forced me to travel.

A similar fate - a Frenchwoman who grew up abroad and returned home to conquer the musical Olympus - a new French star (Jain, real name Jeanne Galis). A native of Toulouse, she spent her childhood and youth in Dubai, the Congo and Abu Dhabi, becoming the discovery of the last year and a half in the music of France. In February, at the Musical Victories competition, the French equivalent of the Grammys, 25-year-old Jane was named "singer of the year" in the wake of the success of her album "Zanaka" and the super hit "Come".

French Requiem for Eurovision

The glory of Jane (as well as the circulation of her debut album - 250 thousand copies) can only be dreamed of by the French participant of Eurovision-2017. Alma boasts two million views on YouTube for her video "Requiem" (Requiem). With this song, the young singer and author will represent France in Kyiv at the European Music Competition.

The life-affirming "requiem" is a song about the birth and death of love, about the passing of time and the eternal return of life. “Love dies and is born again, centuries pass and disappear without a trace. But what you consider death is just a season, nothing more (...) Kiss me, tell me that you love, and make me dance until time takes what gave us from us, ”Alma sings. The video for the song "Requiem" was filmed in Paris. Its heroes are the singer herself, as well as a dancing couple. Thanks to special effects, the dancers perform a dynamic tango right on the Parisian rooftops and facades of famous buildings….

Who is preparing the French participant of Eurovision

The co-authors of the song "Requiem" for Eurovision were the singer Alma herself and music producer Nazim Khaled. This composer did a lot for the success of Girac and Claudio, two participants in the French TV show "", who became stars in France.

Nazim Khaled was also the author of the song with which France at Eurovision 2016 took its highest place in a decade. At last year's competition with the composition "J'ai cherché" (I was looking for), I won sixth place. Born in Paris and raised in Israel, Amir was a finalist for the French Voice 2014. Two years later, after his success at Eurovision, the singer became a pop star in France with the album "Au coeur de moi" (in me/in my heart). Last November at the main competition of French pop music NRJ Music Awards in the nominations "discovery of the year" and "song of the year". And in February, he was among the nominees for "Musical Victories" in the categories "Opening Album of the Year" and "Song of the Year" with the hit "J'ai cherché".

Now the singer Amir is preparing his "replacement" for Eurovision, not stinting on praise. According to him, Alma is "a charming, talented, brilliant girl" who will be able to "excellently represent France" at the competition in Kyiv. The singers have been friends for a couple of years, admitted Amir, who has repeatedly invited Alma to perform in the first part of his concerts. Recently, the singer announced that he would comment on the Eurovision final on May 13 on the France-2 channel.

Alma, on the other hand, spends time in intensive training. Vocal lessons, stage skills, preparation for communication with the media and training with psychologists. Alma outlined this rich program to journalists, adding that she spends a lot of time in the gym, preferring boxing to all sports.

On May 5, just before Eurovision, Alma has scheduled the release of her debut disc. One of his songs - "Ivre" - already sounds on French air.

Who does Alma look like?

Guessing about the chances of France winning Eurovision, critics notice the similarity of the new favorite of the public with another young and popular singer - Indila. Three years ago she made a splash in France with the songs of her debut album "Mini World". The mysterious young singer (real name - Adila Sedraya), who hid her biography from journalists, became the "discovery of the year" at the "Musical Victories-2015" competition.

Indila - clip of the song "The Last Dance" (2013)

After her huge success, Indila did not appear on stage and in the media for the last two years, occasionally recording duets with other singers or acting as a songwriter. Her album Mini World, meanwhile, sold 630,000 copies in France. The foreign circulation of the disc has exceeded 800 thousand, riding Indila the most popular French singer in the world recent years. Her lead single "Dernière danse" has over 330 million views on YouTube.

40 years without victories

On May 13, French fans of Eurovision will freeze in anticipation of the results of the vote. Can Alma, with her Parisian Requiem, improve France's last year's result in the European competition? And perhaps - what the hell is not joking - to win? For a performance in the capital of Ukraine, the French singer prepared a version of her song with a chorus in English.

The current final of the competition will take place in Kyiv exactly 40 years after the triumphant Eurovision 1977 for France. Then in London, the French singer Marie Miriam won first place in a European competition. Her victory was the last for France in the history of Eurovision. Since then, every year - in May - the French have been left with nostalgia to listen to the song "L "Oiseau et l'Enfant" (bird and child) and dream of a new victory at Eurovision.

Singer Alma - song "Ivre" (2017)

With the song "Bird and Child", which is 40 years old, we conclude the "French Music Podcast". Its hosts Ksenia Gulia and Dmitry Gusev, as well as director Bina Essayan say goodbye to you. See you at RFI.

The upcoming young talent Alma (Alexandra Maquet) (born 27 September 1988 in Lyon) will fly the flag for France in Kyiv with her song Requiem which was written and composed by Nazim Khaled.

Alma means both "soul" and "little girl", an artist has never been so well named. This young 28-year-old singer-songwriter is the eldest of three sisters with whom she plays the piano and sings regularly, but it was when she decided to discover other cultures and travel, Alma has written her first songs in English, somewhere between Brazil, the United States and Italy, while continuing her studies.

After finishing a business degree, she decided to devote herself to her lifelong passion; music and so she moved from Lyon to Paris to pursue her dream. She begins "the most beautiful of her travels", the one that will lead her to writing and singing. It was in the French capital that she met songwriter Nazim, who has also written for Amir, who finished 6th for France in the Eurovision Song Contest last year. Nazim became her artistic double and wrote most of the songs of Alma's debut album which will be released on 5th May 2017.

Around her project, she has collected a team of directors, songwriters and composers who have adapted to her voice and subtle words to evolve them into a bespoke universe: Nazim (Amir, Kendji, Yannick Noah, Claudio Capéo), David Gategno (Céline Dion , Louane), Pierre Jaconelli (Benjamin Biolay, Johnny Hallyday), Renaud Rebillaud (Maitre Gims, Black M), Les Skydancers/We are I.V (Frero Delavega, Vianney), Franck Authié (Irma, Greg June) and Jeremy Poligné (Julie Zenati).

Alma is an emerging star on digital platforms and has been named as one of the most promising young artists of 2017. Whilst she deals with universal themes including love and even death, Alma brings a very personal approach, as a skilful tightrope walker she sings on the border between two worlds, that of the dream and that of the raw reality.

The poetic and dreamlike Requiem tells of Alma's quest for immortal love as the ultimate remedy for death, and showcases her unique voice. The song was written by Nazim Khaled, who is also responsible behind the production along We Are I.V. Requiem was launched on digital retailers and streaming servies on January 13th via Warner Music Group, the final version that Alma will perform in Kyiv will be released in the coming weeks. Alma was confirmed at the Eurovision entrant.

"I"m deeply honored to have been selected to represent my country, France, at this year's Eurovision Song Contest", said Alma. "I strongly hope to count on the public"s love and support to deliver the best performance possible", she added

What are the three most interesting aspects about your entry?
Requiem is a modern song with an upbeat tempo which makes me happy when I hear it!
I like the contrast between the title and the positive message of my song. I strongly believe that love helps you overcome any difficult situation.
We decided to add English to the original version in order to reach a larger audience, I hope that if people can understand a part of the song they are more likely to like it!

What are the three most impressive facts about you?
I speak four languages thanks to the different countries i lived in: United States, Italy, Brazil, Belgium and France, my native country!
Five years ago I was in a business school and now I"m representing France in Eurovision!
I have 3 sisters! Amir is my mentor!

Do you have a (lucky) routine before you go on stage?
I usually ask to be left alone and I breathe deeply. Then I randomly hug people: I need to receive a "love dose" right before I go on stage!

Why is the Eurovision Song Contest important for you?
Eurovision is a one-of-a-kind show. It breaks boundaries between countries and brings people together. The competition becomes secondary compared to the power of gathering such a large audience together. It "s a blessing for me to spread a message of fraternity and take part in one of the biggest TV shows in the world!

France 4 will broadcast the Semi-Finals of the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest on Tuesday 9th May and Thursday 11th May, which will be broadcast live from Kyiv, Ukraine. Alma will represent France in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday 13th May and will also perform her entry, Requiem during the second semi-final on Thursday 11th May. Interview

ESCKAZ and members of Ukrainian independent fan-club EurovisionUA.club have met representative of France Alma when she was visiting Kyiv to perform as the guest act at the national Ukrainian preselection final.

"I feel very proud and honored to be part of this contest, cause this is a big thing and I"m very happy and very excited to participate in it. Eurovision is a beautiful contest, international, you meet the other candidates, exchange all about your passion, because music is I think for all of us is a passion, so we have already this common thing, I think it's incredible experience. Amir told me that last year his 10 days at the contest were wonderful, so I"m really excited to be part of this and to be able to share my song with the European people. It is a bit complicated to go through the borders singing in French, so it "s great to be able to share my music with different people. This is just magical for me", explained Alma her feelings from the Eurovision participation.
"I was the full of little stars in my eyes, I was like a little girl, I was really really happy and when the head of delegation Edoardo Grassi called me, I went through a million of different states in a second. I was really really excited"

"The song Requiem was written for my album by songwriter Nazim, and when he introduced it to me I was really touched by the melody, the theme and the lyrics. I really like this song and it"s very positive even though the title is Requiem, so it "s like a contrast between the two and this is what I like about music - to surprise people" explains Alma.

Alma will release her debut on May 5: "My album is in French, it"s like my diary, in which I put everything that I feel and I experience every day. It "s going to be a full of surprises because I really like to write songs, themes and lyrics so that they don"t go together, like you think you"re listening to a love song - but it"s not, you think you "re listening to a death song like Requiem - but it" s not. So I "ve tried to really take care of this aspect for the album to surprise people and to make them travel with my songs. Requiem is the unique song in my album and the more the most dynamic, uptempo of all, the rest are more romantic ballads, but still very modern. I am happy to work with the biggest producers in France to arrange my songs, so I really like the result, cause it"s a mix of French variety, classic and really modern, so it"s very good".

For the Eurovision performance Alma will change half of the chorus to the English. "It was our own idea, nobody asked me to put English there, we could have went with only the French version, but in order to reach more people because they don"t speak French and don"t understand the song - and I think it "s sad - I just wanted to put a little part of English so that non French speaking people can understand the theme".

Currently the team is also working on some changes in the arrangement of the song: "We are working on it right now, we" re planning to change a little bit but we wanted to keep the soul of the song, as it was written. I can "t wait to show it to you, but it is not finished yet". Search for the stage director is now ongoing: "We" re meeting some some in Paris this week, so let "s say it" s a work in progress. We will choose the best thing, the most aesthetically beautiful production, because we want to really represent the country in a very elegant way". Alma also explained her plan of preparation for the contest: "I"m working a lot on the breathing and everything to be ready for sure for those 3 minutes that I"m going to have to "shine" so I"m taking a lot of classes, I"m dieting for the voice and stuff, I"m trying to eat healthy and to be like perfectly ready for 13 May".

Alma has already heard a few of entries of other contestants: "I"ve heard Italian one, Finnish one, a few songs, and I like them all. I don't have a favorite yet because I'm waiting to see all the contestants because not all songs has been released yet. So I "ll declare myself a later on". She adds she can "t wait on getting to the Promotional parties in London, Amsterdam and Tel-Aviv, and she thinks it" s going to be a great moment as well and an opportunity to meet other acts before the contest.

Alma has been impressed with Kyiv and organization of the national final and hopes everything will be so well organized in May as well: "I think it"s great, it"s super well organized, the (national final) venue is amazing, the sound, the lighting, everything goes very easy and smooth. I didn't get the chance yet to see a lot but we went to flea market today to walk around and it was beautiful, those little churches, and it was really amazing and I can"t wait to come back for more days"

"I"m really happy to be part of this contest and I really hope you will enjoy the show that I working on and if you like don"t forget to vote for me"

It will be full of surprises because I like to write songs where the theme and lyrics don't match each other. , you think you are listening to a love song - but no, or you think you are listening to a song about death, like a Requiem - but no. I tried to pay very close attention to this aspect in order to surprise people and travel with them along the wave of my songs Requiem is quite a unique song for the album, it's the most dynamic, fast paced of them all, the rest are mostly romantic ballads but still very modern, I'm happy to work with some of the best producers in France on the arrangement of my songs, so I really like it the result is a mixture of French variety, classic and modern, it turned out very well, in my opinion".

"I'm very excited to take part in this competition and I hope you enjoy the show I'm working on. If you like it, don't forget to vote for me"

Alma is an American singer who has become popular relatively recently. A girl was born on January 17 (according to the horoscope Capricorn) 1996 in Kuopio (Finland). Full name— Alma Sofia Miettinen. The performer has a twin sister, who is also repainted in neon.

The young singer received the first drop of her fame in 2013, when she performed in the Finnish version of the Idol show, where professional musicians were looking for talented performers. Thanks to her perseverance and beautiful timbre of her voice, she was able to win fifth place. Although she did not become the leader of the show, she was still able to be remembered by many viewers with her incredible and striking appearance.

Despite the loss in the Finnish Idol, Alma was able to start a collaboration with rapper Sini Sabotage. But three years later she signed a contract with Universal Music, and in the summer the singer released her first single called Karma. In the same year, Alma released a new track "Dye My Hair", as well as an EP. But after a while, the performer collaborates with a German producer and releases a hit single called "Bonfire". In 2017, she releases another single "Chasing Highs".

The main direction in music

According to the singer herself, she is not going to put a deep meaning into her work, she just wants people to listen to her songs and relax. Alma also expects all her fans to be able to feel her inner self well enough and understand her soul. Basically, the main direction in the work of the performer is precisely punk. As for the unusual appearance, she simply observes what exactly her surroundings are wearing, and therefore, she created her own style, which will be remembered by everyone for a long time.

According to the performer herself, all her songs are a kind of small texts in which she tries to convey all her thoughts and emotions. She also talks about her travels, the life she has and those people who are lost and can't find the right path.

A little about personality

In one of the interviews, Alma admits that no matter how good she was on stage, she still looks forward to the moment when she returns home. After all, it is the household that constantly supports her and never leaves her in difficult times. She also said that of all the countries she visited, she liked London the most, as the people there are very pleasant and send a lot of positive energy.

As for future plans, for now, she would like to focus on her first tour and soak up as much of the emotion that awaits her on this incredible musical journey. She also admitted that she would like to start cooperation with such famous and talented singers as Sia and Charli XCX.

Her favorite piece of clothing is her black leather jacket with various punk and rock stickers. Although you can’t tell by sight, she has about ten of them. All of them are similar, but she will easily find the difference between them all, as they were brought from different countries - Los Angeles, Helsinki and London. It is not known what else the singer will bring from her tour.

Relations

According to reports, Alma does not have a life partner. This is most likely due to the fact that musical career takes a lot of time in a busy schedule. As for her past relationships, this information is not available on the Internet. But let's hope that very soon she will be able to please fans with the news of her love.
