Stella- Soviet and Russian musical group performing rock and pop music. It existed from 1988 to 1991, but reunited in 2010. The group's permanent ideologists are vocalist Alexander Kirsanov and producer Valery Ivanov.

Story

The group was created in 1988 from the Isk studio project, which included vocalist Alexander Kirsanov and bassist Vladimir Shiryaev. Later, the line-up included guitarist Eduard Gerasimov, keyboardist Oleg Chenchikov and drummer Igor Zhuravel. The director of the team was Valery Ivanov, who is still working with the group.

In April 1988, Stella released its first magnetic album, The Time Has Come, and soon began touring (Chenchikov was replaced by Andrey Gulyaev). The second album - "Fever" - became the most successful in the history of the group, which made it possible to stir up the audience. The band, which experimented with their sound, showed their commitment to glam rock and glam metal in the style of Bon Jovi with this album. However, the group failed to develop this success.

Further attempts to stir up the audience and please it with new songs, even in the pop style, were not crowned with great success: by 1990, Andrey Gulyaev, Igor Zhuravel and Eduard Gerasimov left the group. For a long time, Alexander Nikitin acted as a guitarist in the group. As a result, in 1991, the group broke up, having managed to shoot three video clips for the songs “Insidious May”, “Attack” and “The Bridge of Our Meeting”.

For many years the group did not reunite, besides, two terrible events happened: in 2005 the same guitarist Alexander Nikitin was brutally murdered, and in 2008 Andrey Gulyaev tragically died while on vacation in Thailand. However, in 2010, Alexander Kirsanov and Valery Ivanov, the permanent ideologists of the group, revived the team, which began touring and preparing their first major collection.

An excerpt characterizing Stella (group)

“I have the pleasure of talking to Count Bezukhy, if I am not mistaken,” said the passerby slowly and loudly. Pierre silently, questioningly looked through his glasses at his interlocutor.
“I heard about you,” continued the traveler, “and about the misfortune that befell you, my lord. - He seemed to emphasize the last word, as if he said: “yes, misfortune, whatever you call it, I know that what happened to you in Moscow was a misfortune.” “I am very sorry about that, my lord.
Pierre blushed and, hastily lowering his legs from the bed, bent down to the old man, smiling unnaturally and timidly.
“I did not mention this to you out of curiosity, my lord, but for more important reasons. He paused, without letting Pierre out of his sight, and moved on the sofa, inviting Pierre to sit down beside him with this gesture. It was unpleasant for Pierre to enter into a conversation with this old man, but, involuntarily submitting to him, he came up and sat down beside him.
“You are unhappy, my lord,” he continued. You are young, I am old. I would like to help you to the best of my ability.
“Oh, yes,” Pierre said with an unnatural smile. - I am very grateful to you ... Where do you want to pass from? - The face of the traveler was not affectionate, even cold and stern, but despite the fact, both the speech and the face of the new acquaintance had an irresistibly attractive effect on Pierre.
“But if for some reason you find it unpleasant to talk to me,” said the old man, “then you say so, my lord. And he suddenly smiled unexpectedly, a fatherly gentle smile.
“Oh no, not at all, on the contrary, I am very glad to meet you,” said Pierre, and, looking once more at the hands of a new acquaintance, he examined the ring closer. He saw Adam's head on it, the sign of Freemasonry.
“Let me ask,” he said. - Are you a Mason?
- Yes, I belong to the brotherhood of free masons, said the traveler, looking deeper and deeper into Pierre's eyes. - And on my own behalf and on their behalf, I extend my brotherly hand to you.
“I’m afraid,” said Pierre, smiling and hesitating between the confidence instilled in him by the personality of a Mason and the habit of mocking the beliefs of Masons, “I’m afraid that I’m very far from understanding how to say this, I’m afraid that my way of thinking about everything of the universe is so opposite to yours that we do not understand each other.
“I know your way of thinking,” said the Mason, “and that way of thinking of which you speak, and which seems to you the product of your mental labor, is the way of thinking of most people, is the monotonous fruit of pride, laziness and ignorance. Excuse me, my lord, if I did not know him, I would not speak to you. Your way of thinking is a sad delusion.
“Just as I can assume that you are in error,” said Pierre, smiling weakly.
“I will never dare to say that I know the truth,” said the freemason, more and more striking Pierre with his certainty and firmness of speech. - No one alone can reach the truth; only stone after stone, with the participation of all, millions of generations, from the forefather Adam to our time, that temple is being erected, which should be a worthy dwelling of the Great God, - said the freemason and closed his eyes.
“I must tell you, I don’t believe, I don’t ... believe in God,” Pierre said with regret and effort, feeling the need to tell the whole truth.
The Mason carefully looked at Pierre and smiled, as a rich man who held millions in his hands would smile at a poor man who would tell him that he, the poor man, did not have five rubles that could make him happy.
“Yes, you do not know Him, my lord,” said the Mason. “You cannot know Him. You don't know Him, that's why you're unhappy.
“Yes, yes, I am unhappy,” Pierre confirmed; - but what am I to do?
“You do not know Him, my lord, and that is why you are very unhappy. You do not know Him, but He is here, He is in me. He is in my words, He is in you, and even in those blasphemous speeches that you have spoken just now! said the Mason in a stern, trembling voice.
He paused and sighed, apparently trying to calm himself.
“If He weren’t there,” he said quietly, “we wouldn’t be talking about Him, my lord. What, who were we talking about? Who did you deny? he suddenly said with enthusiastic severity and authority in his voice. - Who invented it, if it does not exist? Why did the assumption arise in you that there is such an incomprehensible being? Why did you and the whole world assume the existence of such an incomprehensible being, an omnipotent being, eternal and infinite in all its properties?… – He stopped and was silent for a long time.

STELLA is a Soviet / Russian musical group performing music in the styles of rock and pop. Existed from 1988 to 1992, but reunited in 2010. The permanent ideologists of the group are vocalist Alexander Kirsanov and producer Valery Ivanov.

The group was formed in Moscow in the spring of 1988 from a purely amateur team "Isk", which in turn was formed by vocalist Alexander Kirsanov and bass player Vladimir Shiryaev. They rehearsed and at the same time selected musicians for themselves. When the team was completed, the guys once again revised their views on their music - and so Stella was born. The band originally planned to play melodic hard rock. Naturally, singing about politics to such music is a very risky business.

What, for example, was America listening to at the time? Anything, but if you take a list of a hundred best songs for any of the second half of the 80s, it turns out that the most favorite topic is the most standard - love. Until then, domestic metalheads were somehow not particularly aware of this, and if the love theme was present in their tape albums and records, then as a necessary addition, designed “for girls”. At best, such songs were written in large numbers in English - Gorky Park is a perfect example of this. The choice is right - after all, apparently, this is the shortest path to mass success.

But success is equally necessary both abroad and at home. And one more thing - it is much more pleasant to listen to the domestic response to Bon Jovi than our own copy to Modern Talking (Tender May, Mirage and others like them). It is not known what principles the Moscow group "Stella" was initially guided by, but it seems that "glam metal" was still closer to them than "electro-pop". As for the texts, here the position of Stella is extremely clear: “Love is a natural feeling. So why not just sing about her?

The debut album "The Time Has Come" was recorded in late March - early April 1988. In addition to Kirsanov and Shiryaev, keyboard player Oleg Chenchikov, guitarist Eduard Gerasimov, drummer Igor Zhuravel and group director Valery Ivanov also took part in the recording. As a guest, Stella was assisted by Oleg Belov, who had previously participated in the Isk project. Subsequently, he played in Metal Corrosion and Metalaccord.

According to the recorded material, the album turned out to be quite good, but the quality of the recording left much to be desired. The musicians failed to achieve the desired sound - the self-supporting studio in which the phonogram was written was simply not able to guarantee it. And although some of the material (the songs “Home Again”, “The Choice Is Made” and “Twilight”) were played on the radio, and the album was in almost all recording studios, there was no wide resonance.

Shortly after this, the keyboard player was changed - Andrey Gulyaev (ex-Luna Park) replaced Chenchikov. The issue of switching to a professional track was resolved positively, and the Stella musicians gradually began to leave their places of work. The group began to perform quite actively in different cities of the country.

The team prepared their second work more carefully, and the result was not long in coming - the album "Fever" was much better stylistically.
Each song is a small picture depicting a moment in someone's "feverish" life. The hero of the songs of "Stella" hopes ("Ladder of Fortune") and is sad ("The time of love is over"), is indecisive ("Attack") and remembers ("Summer for two"), complains about fate ("Insidious May") and , finally, he is simply in love ("The Bridge of Our Meeting").

The guys also shot three video clips: “Insidious May”, “Attack” and “The Bridge of Our Meeting”.

The album "Fever" was recorded in early 1989 at the "Sound" studio of the Rhythm youth center by sound engineer Vadim Volodin.
"Stella" showed his commitment to soft metal in the spirit of the famous "Bon Jovi" and "stirred" the audience a little. But, unfortunately, it was not possible to build on this success - such music is not very much in demand, and the band preferred to continue its stylistic search.

In addition to working in a team, Alexander records several backing vocals for songs from debut album Dmitry Malikov (his voice can be clearly heard in such songs as “Student”, “Marriage Cortege”, “You will never be mine”, etc.)

An EP came out on Melodiya with two major hits from the Fever album - Ladder of Fortune and Insidious May.

New, now more successful (whoever claims otherwise) attempts to succeed followed - the group began to experiment with popular music.
And the success was secured by Vadim Volodin, who acted (along with A. Kirsanov) now as a co-author of music. It was their unconditional hit "Call" that by the summer of 1990 led all sorts of hit parades, and in many even entrenched for many months.

However, "Stella" in the same year left Andrey Gulyaev, who moved to Viktor Zinchuk.

Meanwhile, "Call" was included in the collection "Python", which became very popular in recording studios and discos of the country, along with the compositions of the groups "Fairy" and "Commissioner". It was later heard on the Sound compilation, which is known for usually containing the most popular songs of the season. In addition, on the Yunost radio station, in the hit parade of the Galaxy program, the song “Call” was in the lead for almost a year, and the group itself was named the “super leader of the Galaxy” in the final program of the year.

Of course, the jubilant fans at that time didn't care that the hit they liked was completely torn off the song Where Were You Last Night by Ankie Bagger. For the simple reason that most people simply did not know about it.

In 1991, this song was released on vinyl as part of the Galaxy hit parade.

The main backbone at the beginning of 1991 was considered the following composition:

A. Kirsanov (music, lyrics, vocals), E. Gerasimov (guitar). V. Shiryaev (bass guitar) and I. Zhuravel (drums).

Soon Igor Zhuravel left the band, as well as guitarist Eduard Gerasimov, instead of whom Alexander Nikitin worked for quite a long time.

The success of the composition alone cannot but raise a legitimate question: "What's next?"

By March 1991, with some delay, the guys released their new magnetic album.

A. Kirsanov: “The work on the album was very serious and painstaking. Huge help The recording was provided by Vadim Volodin, sound engineer and producer of the album. Recording was started back in April 1990, and only at the end of December, imagine, exactly nine months later our brainchild was born.

Absolutely all songs were potential hits. They did not sing about social problems, which are already enough in life. But they had a lot of soul and lyrics. There is a song about the fickle love of a frivolous girl (“Girl without a heart”), about broken and even a little tragic love (“That's it”), a very beautiful, tender song about a long separation (“How many long days ...”) and melodic , full of sincere feelings, the ballad "Your Kiss". The rather unexpected song "Vampire Woman", performed in the manner of a half-joking "thriller", stood somewhat apart. And in the song "Sing, soul!" one hears the expanse of the Russian expanse and the prowess of the immense Russian soul.

And in the songs of the Stella group, which compare favorably with the bulk of the then pop lyrics, there are not only purely platonic relationships, but also transparent erotic hints. What, in principle, should not be afraid. After all, eroticism is an integral part of love, and it is strange, saying "A", not to say "B". Another thing is how to talk about it.

For a long time they could not decide on a name. They even announced a competition (through the "Soundtrack" of MK) for best name album, where it was assumed that the five most original authors will receive prizes - cassettes recording this album. In addition to the musicians of the group, the jury even included the charming "Fairy" - Svetlana Razina, with whom the guys had a long creative friendship.
As a result, the name was nevertheless fixed on the title hit - "Call".

The period of 1990-91 was the year of the dizzying success of Stella and nothing foreshadowed a sad outcome.

By April 1992, the group released an even more successful hit - "Tears of Love" - just a platinum fusion of melody, lyrics and vocals (by the way, the melody was "licked" from a Western pop sample - by singer Kim Wilde and her 1990 hit - "Can 't Get Enough (Of Your Love)").

By September of the same year, the song “Make Love” appeared in the rotations, stylistically already under the model of “techno” gaining momentum in the world of music. To be honest, after "Tears ..." she almost disappointed - the bar was raised too high for her.

And even more unfortunately, by the end of the year, the Stella group broke up.

In 1993, Alexander also recorded backing vocals for four songs by Alexander Aivazov from the album "Don't Be Sad..."

In 1994, the album "Call" was re-released on CD (Jam) with three bonus tracks: "Tears of Love", "Make Love" and "Currency Bar".

Valery Ivanov, meanwhile, undertook to produce the aspiring singer Natalie (until 2003, until she "threw" him for a lot of money).

For many years the group did not reunite, the guys were each doing their own business. In addition, two terrible events happened: in 2005, guitarist Alexander Nikitin was brutally murdered, and in 2008, Andrey Gulyaev was tragically killed while on vacation in Thailand.

However, in 2010, Alexander Kirsanov and Valery Ivanov, the permanent ideologists of the group, revived the team, which began touring and preparing its first major collection (by the way, it is still being prepared - in the yard of 2017). There are no new songs, but there are several remixes of hits from the "Call" album.

The concert line-up was also determined:

Alexander Kirsanov - vocals
Artur Khachaturov - keyboards
Alexey Rostov - vocals, keyboards
Sergey Kalugin - guitar

However, to the bewilderment and even indignation of many fans of the group at concerts, A. Rostov solos to the "background" of A. Kirsanov's phonogram. At first, everyone thought that it was Alexander who had become so stout over the years, because some external similarities are really observed among them. About Alexander for all these years - not a rumor, not a spirit, only a few photographs lit up, where he is already without his magnificent hair, and completely without it.

In January 2016, another tragic event took place - after a long illness, the former bassist of the band, Vladimir Shiryaev, died.

Former members:

Andrey Gulyaev (1965-2008) - keyboards (1988). (He also worked in the Luna Park, Horus, Lifebuoy, Squadron and Dynamic groups. He died in early 2008 in Thailand).
Igor Zhuravel - drums (1988-1991)
Sergei Romanov - keyboards (tour director of the singer Natalie).
Alexander Ivanov - sound engineer, keyboards
Eduard Gerasimov - guitar
Oleg Chenchikov - keyboards
Alexander Nikitin (1967-2005) - guitar. (After the breakup of the group, he was engaged in business, was killed by unknown persons, a criminal case was not initiated).
Oleg Belov - guitar (guest musician)
Vladimir Shiryaev - bass guitar, died after a long illness in January 2016

Group administration:

Valery Ivanov - producer, director, artistic director
Vadim Volodin - sound engineer (1988-1990)
