Wall painting is a unique way to transform an existing interior or to breathe a touch of originality into a thoughtful design, to make it individual. Delicate sketches in pastel colors will make the room touching and cozy, and a catchy bright pattern will allow you to show creativity and refined taste.

For wall decor, improvised materials and imagination are enough.

The special charm of this decor method is that you can decorate the wallpaper with drawings at any time. you can plan in advance such a highlight of the interior or diversify an already finished room. Moreover, now this method of decorating walls is at the peak of popularity, and eminent designers are happy to use it.

Drawing on the wallpaper in the blink of an eye will transform even the most boring interior, and it is quite possible to make it yourself, even without having artistic skills.

Vinyl wall decals are easy to apply and remove from walls.

In addition, painting on wallpaper is an exciting pastime that can become a hobby.

But before you start enthusiastically choosing a drawing, you should remember a few simple rules.

  1. If the walls are plastered, you need to use matte acrylic paint.
  2. On painted walls, it is better to paint with the same paint that was used for the base.
  3. On the wallpaper you can paint with any paint. But to make the drawing look brighter, especially if the base is dark, you should first prepare the “canvas” by painting it white.

screen painting

The easiest way to draw is to use ready-made stencils. They can be made independently or purchased ready-made. In addition to the most interesting stencil, you will need:

Printing technique.

  1. Matching paint colors.
  2. Mixing containers.
  3. Aerosol adhesive for stencils.
  4. Brushes in several sizes.

Do not neglect the third and fourth recommendations. Special glue for stencils will allow you to firmly fix the base of the picture, and after finishing work, remove it without a trace. Brushes of different sizes are needed in order to make the drawing neat and beautiful. It is better to work out small details with a small brush, and for painting relatively large areas you need a large copy.

Cover the floor with plastic wrap or newspapers, this will save the coating if the development creativity on the wallpaper with your own hands will not be too neat. Lay the stencil face down on the floor and spray on the adhesive. After that, without waiting for drying, glue the outline of the pattern to the wall.

Now you can start drawing. Don't use too much paint on the brush, it may run and ruin the design. It is better to return to the container several times or pick up a glass of paint. First of all, cover large free areas with paint, it is better to use a large brush for this. Then draw small details, curves and individual elements, picking up, respectively, a miniature brush. It is better to remove the stencil after the paints have completely dried.

If the pattern on the wallpaper should look like a repeating ornament, when gluing the stencil, make sure that the small details match perfectly. Even a slight discrepancy will be noticeable from a distance, and efforts will be in vain.

Releasing the Inner Artist

If you feel that you can do without a stencil, then you can create your own unique pattern that no other designer will repeat. But do not blindly rely on your talent and imagination, it is better to prepare in advance to create a masterpiece than to later regret the impulse.

Coloring wallpapers can be painted with paints, pencils or felt-tip pens.

You will need:

  1. Paints.
  2. Brushes of different sizes and a sponge.
  3. Containers for mixing paints.
  4. Simple pencil.

After preparing the walls, you should definitely take care of creating a sketch. It is a pencil sketch that will subsequently create the perfect drawing.

The sketch is best applied pointwise or with light strokes. At the same time, do not be lazy to move more often to a sufficient distance and evaluate the sketches. In addition to your own imagination, you can use your favorite drawings and pictures, and even your own photo. Any image must be transferred to tracing paper, enlarged if necessary. In addition to tracing paper, a special projector can be used to apply a sketch, but this method is more suitable for silhouette drawings.

Do not try to quickly draw a suitable outline, haste can do a disservice. Do not be lazy to evaluate the sketch again and again and correct the shortcomings. Only after you get the perfect sketch, you can proceed to the next step.

Painting a wall is time-consuming and requires extreme concentration, as it is quite difficult to correct mistakes. Start working with a wide brush, paint over all large elements without touching the edges, not reaching them by 1-2 cm. Make sure that the brush is always clean, otherwise the transfer of colors will ruin everything. After the main part of the pattern on the wallpaper is ready, take a small brush and carefully draw the borders, small details and let the masterpiece dry.

It turns out that holes decorate not only cheese and human ears. They can also be used for creative purposes. Here, for example, members of the French community of artists and designers Murmure create real paintings using holes.

The "hole" creativity of the guys from Murmure has a lot in common with people who are engaged in screen painting. They also use sheets of paper that are pierced in such a way that certain images are produced.

But after that, they do not need to take cans of car paint, look for free walls and draw on them using a stencil. Murmure believes that the stencil itself is already an art. Moreover, much more reliable and durable than the pictures on the walls.

It turns out that in Murmure they do screen painting in reverse. After all, the main thing in their work is the stencils themselves. And, in order to see images on them, you need to attach the form to some background different from it. Then you can see the pictures drawn with holes.

Moreover, in order to create such paintings, you must have a very subtle artistic talent and taste. After all, here, making holes in paper, you need to understand very clearly what exactly you are doing and what result you are counting on.

Well, in order to consider these unusual paintings made with holes, you also need to have a very broad view of art, and also be able to see, pay attention to the whole, and not to the details.

Screen painting. Decor of the box "Freedom at the tip of the brush". Author: Olga Pavlova Using stencils is very easy to draw, and somehow I already showed the process of decorating an interior panel using stencil painting. But is it just as easy to paint a voluminous thing, for example, a box? I decided to try it, because stencil painting is a fairly simple technique, and it's also a great idea for decorating a jewelry box. To decorate the box using the stencil painting technique, you will need the following materials: a box blank; ground black; Acrylic-Hobby De Luxe acrylic paints: Olive, Khaki, Forest green; acrylic paints "Acryl-Art": Magenta, Yellow-green, Titanium white, Yellow ocher; acrylic paint"Decolor" Old Bronze; embossed paste Graphite; stencils that we will use for drawing; matt acrylic lacquer. To begin with, I primed the workpiece with black acrylic primer in two layers. The primer, in addition to its main task (primer), will act as a background, so I cover it with one layer of matte varnish on top. Screen painting. The decor of the box. With the help of a stencil, a stencil brush and Acryl-Hobby De Luxe Olive paint (the color is chic, as if filled with the sun, real, I highly recommend it!) I draw frames on the lid and on all four sidewalls. The brush works in circular motions, rubbing, semi-dry. I wipe the excess paint from the brush on a napkin. With the help of a background stencil and the same paint, with movements resembling powdering, I draw up the background inside the resulting frames. I make the shading uneven to create the illusion of a focal blur of the background behind the resulting grating. For later work, I create a stencil for painting: the stencil drawing is downloaded from the network and cut out from a simple stationery folder for papers. In this stencil, both a general bouquet of flowers and flowers are cut out, which makes it possible to draw many and different flowers. On the edge of the stencil, the masks of a part of the flowers are also cut out, which allows you to draw a darkening around the resulting flowers (I will not do this). The stencil can be twisted as you like and create either a twig with one flower, or a huge bouquet. According to my idea, it will be a branch with several flowers, making its way through the fence to freedom. On the sides of the box, I will draw young buds with leaves with the same stencil. With paints Khaki, Olive, Magenta + a drop of Black, I create underpainting (the bottom layer of the whole picture). Further, in the design of the petals, I use only White color, somewhere highlighting more strongly, somewhere not so much ... With paints Ocher yellow, Forest green and Yellow-green I decorate the foliage and the core of the flower. I work mainly with a stencil brush, but in some places other brushes come to the rescue. After the branches are drawn, black paint in some places I will draw a lattice in order to visually remove part of the branches behind it. With paint "Decolor" Old bronze, also with a stencil brush through a stencil, I make out the inscription. I fasten the lock and, despite the fact that this fitting is bronze, I also powder it with the beauty of Old Bronze to make the inscription and fittings a single shade. Again I take the stencil with the inscription and, having precisely aligned the stencil with the inscription already received, I lay it out again with graphite-colored embossed paste. After drying, I again combine the relief with the stencil and cover the entire relief with old bronze decolor paint. I needed the first paint layer, because in the stencil drawing of the inscription there are very thin lines of letters through which the relief paste categorically did not want to lie down, and without these lines the letters would not be intact ... but the hopes that the relief laid out after that will not interfere with drawing thin lines, there were too few to risk. Using a sponge, I powder the ribs and edges of the entire box. That's all, three strokes of the brush, a drop of paint, and I myself did not notice how the box was ready. Simple, fast, easy! As I love it :) Source

Stencil making.

Drawing translation:

The drawing is transferred to the material selected for the stencil using a backlit table. To transfer large compositions to the wall, use wrapping paper.

Cutting out:

You need to cut the stencil on a hard and durable surface with a sharp knife with replaceable blades, starting from the central part or from the smallest elements of the pattern. When cutting curved lines, use a template. Instead of a knife, you can take nail scissors. The scissors remain stationary during cutting, but the stencil blank rotates during operation. Try to cut using the middle of the scissor blades - then the cut line will be even.

Applying paint with a sponge

This method not only allows you to apply paint faster, but is also great for painting a large area. It is better to use natural sponges, as they create the effect of transparency and lightness of the pattern, but you can also use a synthetic sponge by cutting it into pieces with uneven edges.

Stencil cleaning

Stencils must be stored carefully, since their creation is, although not difficult, but rather time-consuming work. Marks from the felt-tip pen can be washed off with a cotton swab soaked in alcohol. In addition, the stencil must be rinsed with water before applying a new color or when you want to flip it over to create a symmetrical image. It is recommended to store stencils in hard folders or boxes, lining them with sheets of thin cardboard. At the end of the work, wash the brushes thoroughly with warm water, adding a few drops of detergent to it, and set them to dry; store the brushes with the hair up. Never leave a brush unwashed: dried paint can make it unsuitable for further use.
