How to draw irises in oil step by step for beginners. "Irises" decorative painting with acrylic paints

We paint the picture "Irises" in oil on a round canvas You will need: - round canvas diameter 30cm composition 100% cotton; - oil paints: ultramarine, titanium white, yellow, violet (if any); - brushes 2pcs synthetics small size#8, #12; - a palette knife (any kind they are used to working with), if there is no palette knife, then it is possible without it; - a little oil for diluting paints; - wet wipes for wiping brushes; - pencil for sketching. 1. If you can’t draw a sketch with paints the first time, take a pencil and mark all the details on the canvas. Since Irises are shaped closer to an oval, label them like this. 2. We take ultramarine, do not dilute (draw dry). Dry painting means that we do not apply the background, but leave it as it is, take paint and draw Irises in this way. The edges of the petals with thick paint, and the rest of the flower with the remaining paint, which is on the brush, leaving white stripes on purpose. So we will create texture and chiaroscuro. Next, we look at the picture (and you are writing from my finished picture) and work with the tone. We give smoothness to the petals, and add a little light shade (this is blue: mix ultramarine with white). But do not bleach too much, as white can turn our rich color into a duller one. 3. After we have made them smoother, we draw greenery. We take ultramarine and yellow (ultramarine is more than yellow) and draw twigs. First draw all the branches for flowers, and then see where you add more. Initially, do not strive to write them wide. Let them be thinner, wider, easier to make than to reduce later 4. Let's move on to the flower again. We look at the petal, it should be with a shadow and light part. Therefore, we highlight one half of the petal, but not to white, but a little for contrast, a little lighter (see photo) Again, let the paint dry a little, draw buds on two flowers, also in green. 5. We pass to completion. Take ultramarine again and circle all the petals around the edge. Thick. And then from the same edge we stretch this paint to the base of the petal, so that natural stripes form. Thus, we will create airiness and transparency of the flower. We are waiting a little (if you do not want to wait until the evening or the next morning) take a palette knife or a smaller brush and apply yellow at the base of the petal. Important point, it is necessary to apply one movement, smeared and that's it. if you immediately apply yellow, then know that it can mix with ultramarine and get green. And we need yellow. So in one motion we write yellow stripes and after each time, wipe the brush or palette knife. 6. The picture is almost ready. it remains for us to take a palette knife or a brush and draw green stems. Leave the painting unfinished. In the morning, write what you think is necessary (it can be brighter stems or yellow spots near the petals), in any case, it’s better to always leave the work a little unfinished, because you can go too far with paints, smear a lot of shades and ruin everything. I left the picture so far with unfinished stems, firstly I like it so much, and secondly, the eye should rest a bit, and then I can see and correct my picture. #painting #drawing

Today our art school prepared for you step-by-step master class oil painting - how to draw irises. As a beginner, many feel that such a job may not be possible. In fact, there are no difficulties. Enough to choose free time, prepare necessary tools, paint and you can start creating.

As a source of inspiration, we chose a photo of an iris, namely its enlarged macro shot. Flowers always evoke positive emotions and paintings with their image fit perfectly into the interior.

In the course of painting an oil painting, it is not necessary to achieve one hundred percent similarity with the original; it is not the accuracy of the details that is important here, but the transmission of the general mood and tone.

Master class "How to draw irises with oil?"

The first step in the work will be transferring the image to the canvas. For novice artists, we would recommend dividing the canvas and photo sample into squares, and then transfer the image cell by cell. It is allowed to use the canvas both on cardboard and on a stretcher. A tinted canvas would also be great, as bright hues it is more noticeable. In our oil painting tutorial, we take a regular white canvas on cardboard, which can be easily found in any art store.

At the next stage, we determine the necessary colors of paints and squeeze them onto the palette.

In our case, we need ultramarine, lemon cadmium, cadmium yellow, natural sienna, red, Russian green, any black, zinc white, yellow fawn, ultramarine, golden ocher, chromium oxide, olive, manganese violet and Neapolitan spectral.

You also need flat brushes, a tee and a rag.

I would like to remind you that the lightest tones are applied first, then the darker ones, and so on until the darkest color. After working with shades of one color spectrum and moving to another, you need to change the brush. Otherwise, instead of pure colors, get a hodgepodge.

So, let's continue our oil painting lessons. We decorate the middle of the petals with yellow, the petals themselves are blue, and the edges are highlighted with light lilac. Next, you need to apply a light yellow tint to the upper petals, blue the back ones and highlight the shadow with darker tones. After completing this work, you can proceed to the background. It is filled, starting with light areas, gradually turning into darker ones. Do not try to achieve the complete identity of the photo, show your imagination. If you don't like the direction of the sheet, change it according to your desire.

Then with white paint we select all parts of the picture, which should be light. Somewhere it can be applied more densely, and in some areas mixed with the previous layer. During the oil painting lesson, you yourself will decide which techniques, where it is better to apply.

Next, you can walk with a mixture of dark colors in the shadows, usually manganese and ultramarine are used. For the background and leaves, I would recommend taking sienna and adding some black. When using black paint, care must be taken not to overdo it.

Having completed the most painstaking part of the work, when the flower becomes similar to the original, you can take care of the details. With dark paints, ultramarine or manganese, we draw veins on the leaves. Looking closely, you will notice that the veins on the sheets are different. At the receptacle they are purple, and blue at the edges.

The drawing is done in raw, using a round brush with small strokes. And do not forget to wipe the brush with a rag.

This concludes our painting training. As you can see, a little perseverance and patience lead to amazing results.

To achieve some blurring of the background, as in this oil painting, you need to moisten a clean brush in a tee and slightly blur the edges of the painted leaves.

You don’t have to finish painting courses to know that after finishing work, the palette and brush must be washed, for example, using solvent number 4.

When finishing a painting, it often becomes an unpleasant discovery for adults that the palette, wiped with a special substance, remains covered with an incomprehensible layer of paint. There is nothing wrong here - this is a spent layer of paint, otherwise called "fuza". Then the brushes are rinsed in pinene, washing them with water and soap.

A week later, the paint dries completely. Now, having decided to correct something in the work, darken or brighten, you will have to use the glazing technique, in other words, apply changes with highly diluted paint.

Hello dear friends!

Now great time for everyone who loves to draw flowers - because everything blooms!

Last week I brought a beautiful bouquet from my mother's flower garden, which you can see at the beginning of the video tutorial.

Irises become simple when you carefully study them up close and understand how these amazing flowers are arranged.

Composition

So that everyone would be good at painting a picture according to this painting lesson - it is worth highlighting one branch, and there is one main flower on it . Big bouquet irises with different types of them will be difficult to write.

I really love yellow- and of course for this reason I chose a branch of yellow irises. Still, I think it will be easier for many to write classic purple or two-tone irises.

Landscape "Spring Thunderstorm"

If you still have irises blooming in your garden, cut off one branch and get to work on new picture with flowers.

If you find it difficult to immediately draw irises on canvas, first practice a little, draw irises step by step with a pencil on paper, make some sketches.

List of materials

For work, we need acrylic paints (I want to note that this painting lesson is designed specifically for acrylic).

Let's prepare a set of colors:

  • white;
  • yellow Neapolitan;
  • yellow cadmium;
  • red cochineal;
  • brown van dick;
  • green bile;
  • blue prussian;

decorative paints:

  • bamboo sprout;
  • gold;

tools:

  • spray;
  • masking tape;
  • a piece of cellophane;
  • simple pencil;
  • brushes.

The process of painting a decorative painting

Sketch

Draw on the canvas with a pencil sketch. Arrange the flowers so that they look harmonious. Select one large flower, placing it in the center. In the background we add two smaller and inexpressive flowers.

Decorative painting "Irises"

Background

Filling in the background canvas with liquid paint "bamboo sprout". If you did not manage to buy this paint, you can prepare a similar color yourself. Mix decorative paint "Chameleon" or "Pearl" with white and a little greenery.

How to draw a beautiful sunflower

In order to make the background look more interesting, cover it with a liquid mixture of gold + brown + white. We dip a piece of crumpled cellophane into the paint and spread such strokes over the background part of the canvas (this stage of work, if desired, can be ignored).

irises

Mixing different shades of yellow in order to write irises:

  • cadmium yellow + white;
  • cadmium yellow + white + brown;
  • cadmium yellow + white + red;
  • cadmium yellow + white + greens;
  • we make approximately the same combinations with Neapolitan yellow.

The purpose of this procedure is to get a large number of different shades of yellow. (shady, bright, saturated and pale ...) for writing yellow flowers.

We write flowers. First we paint them with a large brush (No. 10 flat), mark the shadow and light on the petals. Next, we will refine with a thinner brush.

Leaves

Green leaves and the stems are marked with greens mixed with yellow, or more shaded areas, greens mixed with blue.

decorative frame

Create a translucent decorative frame . In order to outline it evenly, we need masking tape (we will do this when the background paint is already dry).

We retreat from the edge of the canvas about 3 cm and glue the entire canvas around the perimeter with masking tape. Further, with whitewash well diluted with water, we cover the canvas from the edge to the masking tape. We take off the tape.

Doing decorative three-dimensional strokes . To do this, we wrap a small amount of paint in a square piece from an ordinary transparent thin plastic bag. Next, in this tightly wrapped polyethylene, we make a small hole with a pin. The next stage: through this kind of device, we apply (squeeze out) convex and clear strokes onto the canvas. I saw this technique with the artist Oleg Buiko, who also shoots very interesting videos for those who are fond of painting.

MASTER CLASS: Draw irises in oil, or How to easily transfer a drawing to canvas In this master class, I want to show the process of painting a picture from scratch, how to do it to a person with little drawing experience, but who has a lot of desire and, most importantly, patience. We will draw, or rather paint a picture, with such a cute photo of an iris that I found on the Internet. Many people are probably familiar with the well-known method of transferring a pattern over cells, when each sector of the cell is calculated according to the formula and numbered. I want to show a simpler way to break down and transfer a drawing without a calculator. In this way, it is easy to transfer the drawing to a surface of any size and maintain the necessary proportions. So, we take our photo with iris and divide it in half vertically and horizontally. There are four rectangles. Next, we draw diagonals in each rectangle. It turned out to be such a beauty. Now we take a canvas (a sheet of paper, cardboard or something else) and repeat just such a grid on it. And now it will be extremely easy to draw a flower, guided by the markup. A small note. Before using this method, you need to make sure that the source image and the format of the canvas you are working with match visually (the sides of the source image rectangle visually match the length and width of the sides of the working canvas). If this rule is not followed, final result not guaranteed. Let's start writing the picture itself. I will use the following oil paints: titanium white, yellow ocher, cadmium yellow medium, cadmium lemon, red light, kraplak red strong, English red, chromium oxide, cobalt green dark, blue FC. In the process of painting, paints need to be diluted. Flaxseed oil is best suited for these purposes, it has a very low odor and is not harmful to health. The disadvantage of linseed oil is that the painting will dry for a long time. If you take a solvent containing turpentine or white spirit, the work will dry quickly, but you will have to put up with a pungent odor and a headache. You will also need brushes of various widths. I really like synthetic brushes, for work I used numbers 1, 3, 8, 10 and a couple of palette knives. But you can take what you have. Take a big brush and start creating the background. Let's add the main color spots of our iris. With a thin brush we work out the contours of the petals. We remove excess paint from the brushes with a rag and the same oil. We are not afraid to mix colors, as we do not set a goal to achieve photorealism. It is convenient to make bright color strokes with a palette knife. And most importantly, when working with several tools, do not forget to change them. Somewhere we will go through with a thin brush, and somewhere with a palette knife, a large brush or even a rag. I am a pedantic person by nature, that is, I pay great attention to details. In painting, this quality is very important, as well as perseverance and patience, if something does not work out. Oil paints good because if the smear did not come out, we take a palette knife, remove the paint and do it as it should. This is the final version I got.
