Modern Talking were a German pop music duo consisting of singer, songwriter and producer Dieter Bohlen (Dieter Bohlen) and singer Thomas Anders (Thomas Anders). It was the only such successful pop group in Germany (by sales).
Formed in late 1984 (Anders was then 21), they suddenly became very attractive thanks to their disco hit "You" re My Heart, You "re My Soul", which was then accompanied by the songs "You Can Win If You Want" and Cheri, Cheri Lady. They released two albums a year from 1985 to 1987, also promoting their singles on TV throughout Europe. After their split in 1987, the duo reunited in 1998. Bohlen and Anders part ways again in 2003 due to irreconcilable differences (it must be said that they were never friends). Thomas Anders immediately began a solo career, while Bohlen began to devote most of his time to new talents.
Modern Talking were successful in Europe, Asia, South America and some African countries. In the United Kingdom, they reached the top ten only once with "Brother Louie" (1986, No. 4 in the UK). They were almost unknown in North America by mainstream standards, never charted, and due to lack of support from the record company and lack of time, were unable to promote their music. Composer Dieter Bohlen used very simple lyrics and intelligently designed synth-based music that was out of fashion in the US before Modern Talking was formed there and even before they formed. Songs before the first split were produced in a style that can be vaguely described as European Disco, which was influenced by the German-language "Schlager" music, as well as romantic English-language songs of Italian and French origin.
After their reunion in 1998, Bohlen produced Eurodance as well as ballads in american style. Modern Talking's global sales reached 120 million units, according to BMG's June 2003 rankings, making them the biggest musical group Germany, which has achieved such massive sales. Dieter Bohlen also worked with other artists while Modern Talking existed, among them Chris Norman of Smokie, whose song "Midnight Lady" (1986) remains Bohlen's most popular composition. He also wrote a large number of simple disco tracks for C.C. Catch ("House of Mystic Lights"), using an uptempo, less romantic sound. Some English songs Bohlen, as "You" re My Heart, You "re My Soul", were also recorded with German lyrics by Mary Roos (Mary Roos), using the same music tracks. When Modern Talking disbanded in 1987, many of the songs written for the last album ended up on Dieter Bohlen's first solo album, which appeared at almost the same time. Among these songs is his delightful first solo single "Sorry Little Sarah". Bohlen's solo project was named Blue System. At that time, most listeners could not get used to the "changed" voice, while the music remained the same.
Blue System's success in Germany declined after the third album, which was given the wrong song as the second single, and Bohlen later admitted that he had lost touch with events in the music scene. Thomas Anders kept Modern Talking songs in his repertoire and led his solo career ("Independent Girl"). Bohlen, in turn, wrote two autobiographical books, one of which sold a million copies, and its sequel was heavily criticized for its injustice to the people with whom he worked. He composes music, but does not currently publish it due to the fact that in last years overdosed on the audience. Anders had his first, and Bohlen his fourth child.
