Apart from being proud authors of one of the world"s most exciting record titles -- the single Houchou Hasami Cutter Knife Dosu Kiri/Rei Rei Rei Rei Rei Rei Rei Rei Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma Ma -- Maximum the Hormone are a Japanese nu-metal lite band with a lot of punk elements in their music and a general lack of the teenage angst and self-importance characteristic of true nu-metalers. The group was formed in 1998 and released its debut album, A.S.A. Crew, the next year, as well as the EP Hou in 2001, but then the guitarist Sugi and bassist Key left. The band was down to a duo comprised of screamo vocalist Daisuke Tsuda and Nao Kawakita, the singing lady drummer, but soon it returned to being a quartet with the recruitment of Uehara Futoshi on bass and Nao's brother Ryo Kawakita (Maximum the Ryo) on guitars and melodic vocals, as well as songwriting duties.

The new lineup released the full indie album Mimi Kajiru the next year, then a couple of singles and another album, Kusoban, in 2004, already on a major label, VAP. This period was marked by their gradual shift from the radical heavy sound to a softer one, with pop elements added into the mix, and the change proved successful with the release of the Rokkinpo Goroshi album (2005), which gained Maximum the Hormone recognition in the national rock scene and enabled them to sneak their first song into anime credits -- the track "Rolling1000toon" was used in the AirMaster series.

In 2006 they made the Oricon Top Ten for the first time with the song "Koi No Megalover," which scored number nine, as well as continued their very successful anime expansion: their tracks "What"s Up, People?!" and " Zetsubou Billy" were featured in the final episodes of death note-- the series that even had its manga version banned by the Chinese government since its overwhelming popularity presumably exerted an "unhealthy" influence on school kids. Another series to receive musical support from Maximum the Hormone was Akagi (the song was named "Akagi" as well), and the album Bu Ikikaesu (2007) collected all of these tracks and charted for the first time, reaching a respectable number five position . In 2008 the band even made an overseas foray, touring the U.S. and Canada with Dropkick Murphys before switching to a huge domestic tour, preceded by the release of the Tsume Tsume Tsume/F EP. ~ Alexey Eremenko

Maximum The Hormone マキシマム ザ ホルモン is a punk band whose music is also influenced by nu metal and funk. Their style is reminiscent of bands like , which, according to the main songwriter
Ryo bands are their main inspirations

The striking contrast of pop punk and thrash metal forms the basis of the sound of the band's music. This difference in style, which is called hardcore, is especially evident in the screaming vocals of Daisuke and Ryo and the wonderful voice of the drummer Nao, gives reason to refer the group to different genres. The titles and lyrics of their songs do not carry a big semantic load, but the band has no desire to make them too abstruse either.

In addition to the fact that the group records works that remain popular for a long time, Maximum The Hormone is trying to ensure that the audience at their concerts have a good time and get the most out of it.

They mainly use the prototype of a shaman in their style.

Maximum the Hormone was founded in 1998 in Hachioji, a suburb of Tokyo. The group was founded by Daisuke, Nao, KEY and SUGI.

After several local performances, the band signed with the indie label Sky Records. A.S.A Crew was the first album released on this label. By that time, Daisuke wrote his songs exclusively in English, and the title 'Maximum the Hormone' was always written in Latin. But a lot changed when KEY and SUGI left the band in 1999.

While searching for new members, Nao thought of her younger brother Ryo, who has been playing guitar since high school and is a good singer. Since then, two have been involved in vocals. Daisuke focused on rapping and screaming, while Ryo took over the melodic parts. Ue joined them as bassist and finally the band was formed. After receiving the status of major, the guys decided that the lyrics and the name of the group should now be in katakana.

In August 2000, the first single Bullpen Catcher's Dream was released, followed a year later by the mini-album Otori. But the first real success came with the release of the single ROLLING1000tOON, which was used as the ending theme for the anime "Airmaster" in 2003.

In 2004, after the release of their fourth album, the band signed with the major label VAP. Two singles were released in the same year, however, a full-fledged tour took place only in 2005, after the release of the fifth album Rokkinpo Goroshi.

After more or less successful releases, the quartet released the single Koi no Mega Lover in 2006, and it became a giant breakthrough, reaching #9 on the Oricon.

In February 2007, Maximum the Hormone wrote What's up, People?! and Zetsubou Billy, the opening and ending theme for the anime "Death Note." They were sure of one thing: if their music is suitable for any anime, then this is Death Note. Their participation in the soundtrack brought them huge popularity, and the album Buiiki Kaesu, released in March, ranked fourth on the national sales chart, became a strong breakthrough for the group.

In January 2008, a joint tour was organized with, which began in the UK, and the guys planned to establish contacts with foreign artists. In February 2008, the DVD Deco Vs Deco "Deko tai Deko" (3 DVD edition) was released, which was a recording of a concert in Zepp Tokyo, dated December 2007. In May 2008, the band performed at the hide Memorial Summit and had success there. On July 9, after a two-year hiatus, the single Tsume tsume tsume was released. (Back in 2005, DVD Debu Vs Debu (1 DVD) was released with a live recording at Shibuya-AX 2005)

Maximum the Hormone has proven to be a band that keeps a close eye on what's going on around them: in a short period of time, they have gained a huge following in Japan as well as overseas. With each new album, their sound has gotten better, so from release to release, we can only expect more from them.
