But Aerosmith was still lucky with covers: in 1986, Tyler and Perry, at the initiative of Rick Rubin, joined the Run DMC hip-hop team and recorded a new version of "Walk This Way", for the first time combining elements of rock music and rap in the song. The hit rocked both sides of the ocean, marking the final return of Aerosmith.

One problem still remains. Tim Collins promised to make Aerosmith the biggest band of the 1990s if they quit drugs. And the guys agreed, having tied up with a dangerous hobby for several years. After the failure Done With Mirrors the next album was to be decisive for the band's future. Freed from the dope, they diligently set to work. Permanent Vacation was released in August 1987. The audience took it with a bang: 5 million copies in the US alone and three singles ("Dude (Looks Like a Lady)", "Rag Doll", and "Angel", All hit the Billboard top 20). An intense tour followed with Guns N' Roses, who did not hide their strong passion for "wheels".

1990s

The band ends touring in support of Pump. In February, they boldly enter the infamous Wayne's World, performing "Janie's Got a Gun" and "Monkey on My Back". The songs soon became hits. Apparently, the group got a taste of it and in 1991 appeared on the Simpsons episode "Flaming Moe's".

Aerosmith take a break and start working on a successor to Pump. Despite significant changes in the main directions of music, the 1993 album Get a Grip became commercially successful. It became their first album to top the chart. The first singles were the percussion "Livin' on the Edge" and "Eat the Rich". Then many critics did not like the emphasis on powerful ballads when promoting the album, although all three (" Cryin '", " Amazing" and " Crazy") became super hits on radio and MTV. The video clips are remembered, first of all, for the participation of the budding actress Alicia Silverstone in them. She was called the "Aerosmith chick" for another five years. Steve Tyler's daughter Liv also appeared in Crazy. Sales total Get a Grip: 20 million copies in the world. The album was followed by 18 months of touring, filming Wayne's World 2, the release of the computer game Revolution X, and a performance at Woodstock'94.

The series of releases that followed in the late 90s (mostly live and old versions) sold solid copies, but did not become popular with critics. Aerosmith's biggest hit in the 90s and their only No. 1 single so far in the final chart was the theme song from the sci-fi movie Armageddon "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing". At first, the band was reluctant to perform Diana Warren's ballad (sometimes credited to Joe Perry as a co-writer), finding it rather controversial. Stephen Tyler's daughter, Liv Tyler, starred in Armageddon, and the film's director Michael Bay directed the video for "Falling in Love" (MTV Video Award for Best Rock Video).

2000s

In November 2009, Steven announced his temporary departure from the band, but already in February, after a long epic, including mutual accusations, quarrels over trifles, Tyler's accidental fall from the stage, the search for a replacement for the injured lead singer, threats of litigation, Aerosmith in The full line-up announced their upcoming Cocked, Locked and Ready To Rock summer tour. The first concert is scheduled for June 10th in Sweden.

On September 5, 2015, Aerosmith performed for free on City Day in Moscow. The concert was held on Lubyanka Square.
