Punk rock band Rise Against formed in 1999 in Chicago (USA) and was originally called Transistor Revolt - then it consisted of lead vocalist Tim McIlrath, guitarist and vocalist Dan Vleklinski, who performed under the pseudonym Mister Precision, bass guitarist and vocalist Joe Principe and drummer Tony Tintari. In 2000, the band, which had not yet performed, recorded the Transistor Revolt mini-album, after which Tintari was briefly replaced by Dan Lumley on drums, and Brendan Barnes in turn replaced him. A year later, the group managed to attract the attention of the label Fat Wreck Records and signed a contract with him already as Rise Against. In the same 2001, the debut album The Unraveling was released, recorded with a well-known producer in the punk environment, Mass Giorgini. The disc was greeted warmly enough by the audience, but there was no grandiose success. Wlecklinski left the same year and Todd Money became the new guitarist.

After touring in support of their first child, the band went into the studio to record their second album, Revolutions Per Minute, which was released in April 2003. Its lyrical component was sustained in an aggressive socio-political key. The song "Like An Angel" was included in the soundtrack for the video game Tony Hawk's Underground and the film "Team". In support of the disc, Rise Against went on tour, sharing the stage with many famous bands, and also became members of the Warped Tour 2003.

At the end of 2003, the band managed to move to the Geffen Records label and start preparing their third album. At this point, Moni left the line-up and Chris Chass was taken in his place. The album Siren Song of The Counter Culture was released in August 2004 and hit the Billboard 200 hit parade, eventually becoming gold. The disc was accompanied by good reviews from critics and listeners, although many noted excessive softness and melodiousness compared to the first releases. Due to this success, Rise Against were able to play shows in North America, Europe, Australia and Japan, became members of the Taste Of Chaos 2005 tour with , The Used and Funeral For A Friend, and also toured the United States as part of the Warped Tour.

The group's fourth album The Sufferer & The Witness was released in July 2006 and immediately took the 10th line of the Billboard 200 hit parade - over 48,000 discs were sold in the first week (in 2008 the album received gold). Musically, it was clear that the band was returning to its punk rock roots. In December of the same year, the Generation Lost DVD was released with the history of the band, live videos and episodes from the filming of the clips. Since mid-2006, Rise Against has been touring extensively for a year and a half, mostly as the title artist. In February 2007, the band's official website announced the departure of Chass, who was tired of endless traveling. A friend of the musicians Zach Blair became the new guitarist and vocalist. At the end of 2007, a new mini-album of the group, This Is Noise, was released in Canada, which was also available in the USA in January 2008.

In 2008 Rise Against engaged in the preparation and recording of their new album, in between performing at various major festivals. The band's fifth album, Appeal to Reason, was released in October 2008 and sold nearly 65,000 copies in its first week, placing it at number 3 on the Billboard 200. Appeal To Reason was well received by listeners and critics alike, although not without remarks that the predecessor was more powerful. The band went on tour again. In October 2010, the second DVD, Another Station: Another Mile, was released, featuring moments from the band's life on tour, as well as some live performances.

At the end of 2010, the band started recording their new album Endgame, which was released in March 2011. The musicians considered it somewhat conceptual - the songs told about Hurricane Katrina, about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as about homophobia. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200, with first week sales of 85,000 discs. The songs "Help Is on the Way" and "Satellite" were used by WWE for their products. A joint mini-album was released in May Rise Against and Face to Face, in which the bands played each other's songs.
