— thin and powerful tablets, with stunning displays and great battery life.

Now we get the first data on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 and all the rumors point to tablets that will come even closer to the iPad Air 2, slender, with metal casings, 4:3 format and two sizes: 8 and 9.7 inches, making the Tab S2 series an obvious alternative to the iPad Air 2 and .

In pursuit...

What it is? Sam's Next Super Tabletsung.

When is the tablet coming out? Probably summer 2015.

How much will the tablet cost? Probably 399$ (24.000 rubles.)

the dateexit

There is no real word yet regarding the release of the new 2015 Samsung tablets, but the originals were launched at the end of June 2014, so there is a possibility that we will see the Galaxy Tab S2 at the same time, especially since the rumors are gaining momentum.

Design

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is rumored to be thinner than the iPad Air 2, which would be quite an impressive feat considering Apple's tablet measures only 6.1 millimeters at the waist.

However, everything points to the fact that years can be significantly slimmer. Sam Mobile reports that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 measures 237.1 x 168.8 x 5.4mm and weighs 407 grams, while the Samsung 8-inch tablet measures 198.2 x 134.5 x 5.4 mm with a weight of 260 grams. These figures also indicate that the new tablets are lighter than the latest Apple tablets.

The site also believes that the tablet will get a metal body and, like the Galaxy S6, could get a glass back, it would be unreasonable to assume that Samsung will return to the plastic design with the new Galaxy Tab S2.

Screen

Like the original Tab S, the Galaxy Tab S2 comes in two different sizes, but this time the tablets are closer to Apple products, with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 and the smaller Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0. The aspect ratio seems to play a big role in the change in diagonal, the new tablets will stick to 4:3, again emulating the iPads.

We continue to believe that Super AMOLED will return as panels, and we look forward to vibrant colors and vivid images. Surprisingly, the resolution will be slightly smaller, 2048 x 1536 pixels, according to Sam Mobile, which again refers us to screen formats.

Let's not forget that the panels have become a little smaller, so the lower resolution may not be noticeable. In practice, this means that the older version will get a density of 264 pixels per inch (the same as the iPad Air 2), while the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0's smaller diagonal panel will score 320 pixels per inch.

Competitors

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 remains an obvious competitor to the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3, not to mention the upcoming ones when they come out.

Samsung's new tablets won't have to face stiff competition in the Android tablet market, but can impose their stakes, being a tempting alternative that features a slim body and high specs, is also an impressive option with fresh Android updates on its side.

Camera and BatterySamsungGalaxyTabS2

According to Sam Mobile sources, the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will have an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera, similar to the Galaxy Tab S.

The same source claims that the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 will have a 5870 mAh battery, while the 8-inch tablet will be limited to a 3580 mAh battery, although the source notes that battery sizes are subject to change.

The capacity of the new batteries is less than what the original first generation tablets used, so we expect them to see better optimizations before the release, after all, thin body requires tough decisions.

OS and performanceSamsungGalaxyTabS2

According to Sam Mobile, both Tab S2s will work out of the box, which is exactly what we've been waiting for - unless the new Samsung tablets get .

The same source claims that the tablet will be powered by an 8-core Exynos 5433 processor, but on the other hand, the specs could go up to the 8-core Samsung Exynos 7420 that came with the Samsung Galaxy S6. We are waiting for the second processors, since the 5433 is not even 64-bit.

The GSMarena remote source also points to Exynos 5 as the chip, clocked at 1.9GHz. As for the Galaxy Tab S2's RAM, most likely the tablets will run at 3 GB, which is quite enough in the current generation.

In terms of onboard storage, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is rumored to come with 32GB of onboard storage, but won't forget its MicroSD users, with slot support promising 128GB.

SamsungGalaxyTabS2 and other features

Another tidbit of information provided by Sam Mobile is that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will likely support Cat.6 LTE, which theoretically promises up to 300Mbps of data reception over 4G. Let's not forget that the 4G tablet model will cost more. Note also that Cat.6 is supported by the latest Exynos 7420 chipsets.

Prices

It's too early to talk about what awaits us with the price tag of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, there is no information on prices and benchmarks yet. All that remains for us is to judge prices by the original Galaxy Tab S series.

Full Color mode with full color image.

The price tag of the tablet is comparable to the iPad Air and iPad Mini 2, the larger tablet starts at 24,000 rubles, while the smaller tablet can be found for 19,000 rubles. Of course, at the start, the situation was different, the price tag started at 28,000 rubles, while it cost customers 24,000 rubles, something similar should be expected from the new Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablets in 2015, especially since the new tablets are even more like Apple iPads.

The body thickness of which reached only 6.6 mm. It would seem that Samsung will not be able to make it even thinner, but the company introduced the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 tablet with a thickness of only 5.6 mm. Let's see if the thin body has affected the main characteristics of the device.

Design, materials and usability

Compared to previous models of the Galaxy Tab S line, the new tablet received a completely new design. And the first thing that catches your eye when looking at it is the proportions of the case, which have changed thanks to the display with an aspect ratio of 4:3. In the past, let me remind you, Samsung used 16:9 screens in tablets, which allowed Full HD video to be displayed in full screen, but was perceived worse when browsing websites and reading books.

As for the appearance of the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7, unlike the previous generation models, the new tablet does not try to look like Samsung's flagship smartphones. Its body is made in a more strict and concise design. When the display is off, there really is nothing for the eye to catch on to, everything is very simple and even modest.

Actually, the entire design of the Tab S2 9.7 is built around a 9.7-inch display made using SuperAMOLED technology. As a result, when the screen is active, you do not pay attention to the design, this was probably the idea of the developers.

As for the body materials, the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 is better than its predecessors in this regard. Firstly, Samsung finally used a metal frame in the tablet, and secondly, the plastic in it is matte with a soft touch coating. And, of course, one cannot fail to note the excellent build quality, all the details of the case are fitted very tightly, and he himself, despite the thickness of 5.6 mm, does not look flimsy.

The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 measures 237.3x169x5.6mm and weighs 389 grams.

Thus, Samsung turned out to be a tablet that surpasses the iPad Air 2 in size and, most importantly, in weight. It is quite comfortable to hold it with one hand, and the frames around the display have exactly the necessary dimensions so as not to touch the screen with the palm of your hand.

The controls in the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 are traditional for Samsung devices. Under the display of the tablet is a mechanical home key, on the left of which is a multitasking button, and on the right is a return step back. On the right side of the case is the power button, as well as volume control. You can also find a microSD card slot here. On the bottom, there are two speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microUSB port.

Display

The version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 we tested has a 9.7-inch display, but there will also be an 8-inch version of the tablet on sale. What's so great about the Galaxy Tab S2's screen? It's worth starting with the fact that the 9.7-inch diagonal with a 4:3 aspect ratio is great for tablet use.

The screen does not seem too elongated, and although Full HD video is displayed with black frames, it is more comfortable to play games, read books, magazines and web pages with this ratio. The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 screen has a resolution of 2048x1536 pixels and is made using SuperAMOLED technology. It has excellent viewing angles, and color reproduction depends on the selected display mode, of which there are as many as five.

For example, in the "Adaptive" screen, it adapts to various applications, in the gallery it makes the colors more saturated, and in Google Play Books or in the browser, on the contrary, it is muted. In general, the most comfortable for the eyes and correct in terms of calibration is the AMOLED Photo mode.

The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7's screen protector has an oleophobic coating, so even though it picks up fingerprints easily, they're just as easy to remove. There are also no complaints about the sensitivity of the screen; it perfectly recognizes the touch of ten fingers at the same time.

Platform and Performance

At the heart of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 is not the top-end, but productive platform with the Samsung Exynos 5433 processor, familiar to us from the Galaxy Note 4. This chip is made using a 20-nanometer process technology and includes two Cortex-A57 and Cortex-A53 blocks , which contain four computing cores operating at a frequency of 1.9 GHz and 1.3 GHz, respectively. The Mali-T760MP6 chip is responsible for graphics processing. All this is complemented by 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory (in fact, 25 GB is available), which can be expanded through the microSD slot.

Thus, both the processor, the video accelerator, and the memory together show in synthetic tests a performance level at the level of the same Galaxy Note 4. And despite the fact that the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 falls short of the Galaxy S6, S6 edge and S6 flagships in benchmarks edge+, this does not affect the work with applications and games available for the Android platform.

The fingerprint scanner

Like the first-generation Tab S models, the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 has a fingerprint scanner built into the Home key below the display. But unlike past Samsung tablets, you can simply press the key to unlock the display instead of swiping.

The mechanism of the fingerprint scanner in the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 is the same as in the Galaxy S6, S6 edge and S6 edge +, but the very implementation of its work is a little lame. Based on the test sample, it is difficult to understand whether this is a problem of the scanner itself or the software responsible for its operation. In the latter case, this could be fixed with an update. Be that as it may, although in most cases the sensor works normally, it happens that it reacts with a delay, or does not react at all. This could be attributed to the peculiarities of the fingerprint scanner in Samsung devices, if not for the fact that the Galaxy S6, S6 edge and S6 edge + it works better.

Interface

Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 runs on Android 5.0.2 operating system with TouchWiz interface. As in their new smartphones, in it, Samsung developers have relied on speed, getting rid of unnecessary applications and interface elements. This benefited the Tab S2 9.7, the tablet works really smoothly and without the slightest delay.

Traditionally for Android, the tablet interface includes desktops on which applications and widgets can be placed, as well as a program menu. One of the desktops at Samsung has been turned into a panel called Briefing, which displays breaking news based on the Flipboard aggregation service. If there is no desire to read the news in this way, this panel can be easily disabled.

The application menu in the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 looks standard for Android, with the only exception that Samsung allows you to automatically sort the icons alphabetically, as well as manually.

Another important feature of the Tab S2 9.7 interface is support for multiple user profiles, which is very convenient if the tablet is used as a family home device.

In general, the interface and software of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 leave a pleasant impression after use. The tablet does not slow down, and it does not have a large number of adware, which usually takes a lot of time to remove when you first set up the device.

Camera

The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 has two cameras: the main 8-megapixel and the front 2.1-megapixel.

There is nothing outstanding in the front camera, because it has a low resolution and a fixed focus.

But the main one boasts f / 1.9 aperture, the same value as in Samsung's flagship smartphones. But, as you might expect, the 8-megapixel photo module does not live up to the quality of the camera in the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge.

Although it should be noted that in general, when compared with other tablets, the Tab S2 9.7 shoots quite well.

autonomy

The thickness of the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 is 5.6 mm and when you pick up the tablet, it's hard to believe that there is a battery inside at all. However, Samsung managed to fit a 5870 mAh battery into the tablet. This is far from the most capacious battery for this class of devices, if you do not take into account the thickness, but it is quite enough for two days of work even with constant use of the tablet. In the PC Mark Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 battery test with brightness set to 50%, it lasted 6 hours and 24 minutes, which is a good result.

Unlike flagship Samsung smartphones, Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 does not support fast charging.

Eventually

Based on the results of a two-week test of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7, we can confidently say that this is the best 9.7-inch Android tablet that has recently been in our editorial office. The Tab S2 9.7 has a simple but nice design, good body materials and build quality, and most importantly, great display, performance and battery life. The only thing that doesn't work as expected on a flagship is the fingerprint scanner, but the company still has a chance to fix that with a software update. In general, Samsung turned out to be a worthy tablet that can compete with the iPad Air 2. Unfortunately, as is the case with the Apple tablet, the cost of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 will not suit everyone.

The Korean company Samsung has once again updated its flagship tablets. And not just updated, but made the thinnest model on the market today. The novelty comes in two form factors: with a screen diagonal of 8 and 9.7 inches. The first solution seems to be the most versatile: it fits in your pocket without any problems, and you can use it as a phone. And for reading, playing and watching videos, such a tablet is quite suitable.

Design features

To date, the Galaxy Tab S2 screen, especially the eight-inch model, is the best that is available on the Android OS.

The first thing that catches your eye is how thin this tablet is. 5.6 mm - the work of engineers and designers is delightful. The case is made of plastic, but has a silver frame along the entire front panel. The back surface is finished with a pleasant soft-touch plastic. As a result, there will never be any scratches or scuffs, even if you use the tablet without a case. A very correct decision. The headphone jack and charging port are on the bottom panel. At the bottom is a large hardware button traditional for Samsung form. The power and volume buttons are located on the right side of the tablet.

No matter what screen size your chosen tablet has, it is made using SuperAMOLED technology and has a resolution of 2048x1536. The aspect ratio of 4:3, a bet on widescreens, actively used by Samsung a couple of years ago, is a thing of the past. The screen is very high quality, has good sensitivity and is protected by an oleophobic coating. The screen has a good margin of brightness, it pleases with viewing angles and excellent contrast. Anti-reflective coating allows you to use the tablets in any conditions. To date, the Galaxy Tab S2 screen, especially the eight-inch model, is the best that is available on the Android OS.

Hardware platform

…a very productive platform without lags and brakes…

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 has an octa-core Samsung Exynos 5433 system-on-a-chip that supports 64-bit instructions. Clock frequency 1.9 GHz. If we talk about the internals of the processor, then it placed four Cortex-A57 cores, as well as four - Cortex A53. This allows, on the one hand, to ensure maximum performance, and on the other hand, to save battery power when required. Also inside the processor is the Mali-T760 graphics accelerator, which performs well in all currently released games without exception.

3 GB RAM installed for optimal performance. User memory 32 GB. But only 22 are available for the user, since the rest of the volume is occupied by the system and the installed software. However, a microSD card slot with support for 128 GB cards and 100 GB in the OneDrive cloud will provide the necessary amount of memory for multimedia with a vengeance.

Another plus of the tablet is the presence of a built-in fingerprint sensor. It works very accurately, recognizes literally with one touch.

The hardware platform is very productive, both in tests and in real use. By definition, there are no brakes even in the most graphically complex games.

Operating system

The operating system is Android 5.0.2, colorized and enhanced with the TouchWiz user interface. The interface, on the one hand, is beautiful, on the other hand, all the additional applications that it contains take up a lot of space and are far from always needed. But it should be noted that in general it is not bad, and given the fast platform, everything works without lags and complaints.

Camera

The front camera has a resolution of 2 megapixels. Of course, this is not suitable for selfies, but for using it as a camera for Skype calls, it is quite suitable. The main camera is equipped with a matrix of 8 megapixels. During the day, she takes very good pictures, with insufficient light (in the evening or in the room) she starts to make noise. On the main camera, you can shoot videos with a resolution of 2560x1440 (QHD). The duration of the videos of such videos can be no more than 5 minutes.
