State Institute of Russian Language named after. A.S. Pushkina has many years of successful experience in teaching the Russian language, training teaching staff, and developing methods for teaching Russian as a foreign language. This is a unique educational institution, in whose philological faculty both Russian and foreign students study: every fourth of our bachelor’s students and every third of our master’s students are foreign citizens.

In the ranking of the quality of admission to universities, the Pushkin Institute has been ranked first among humanitarian universities for the third year in a row and is among the ten best state universities in Russia. The teaching staff of the institute is represented by highly qualified specialists, among whom are world-famous scientists.

The Institute offers a wide range of educational programs: preparatory department for foreign citizens, bachelor's, master's, postgraduate, advanced training and professional retraining, Russian language courses for foreign citizens, including evening courses and summer intensive programs. Active work is underway to create double degree programs.

Students of the Institute from different countries not only study together, but also engage in creativity, sports, and take an active part in idea fairs, competitions and festivals. This contributes to effective learning, development of communication skills, and broadening of horizons. At the State Institute of Russian Language named after. A.S. Pushkin has an International Student Council, radio “Pushkin FM”, Interclub, a cinema club, a theater studio, and a student newspaper “Pushka” is published.

In accordance with the programs of interuniversity cooperation with foreign universities, the Pushkin Institute carries out academic student exchanges, and joint teams of authors work to create textbooks and manuals on the Russian language for foreign universities and schools.

The Pushkin Institute is a member of the Russian Society of Teachers of the Russian Language (ROPRYAL), the International Pedagogical Society for the Support of the Russian Language (IPO) and the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature (MAPRYAL), where the editorial office of the main publication of the Association is located - the magazine “Russian Language Abroad”.

One of the good traditions of the Institute is holding, under the auspices of MAPRYAL, international Olympiads for schoolchildren in the Russian language (since 1972) and International Olympiads in the Russian language for students of schools with Russian as the language of instruction in the post-Soviet countries (since 2002). In 2014, more than 300 schoolchildren from 29 CIS countries, Western and Eastern Europe, America and Asia took part in the Olympics.

The Pushkin Institute is the Basic organization for teaching the Russian language in the CIS countries, as well as the coordinating center of the Program for the Promotion of the Russian Language and Education in Russian, initiated in 2013 by the Russian Language Council under the Government of Russia.

The Institute operates a Center for Language Testing and Assistance to Migration Policy. Examinations are conducted both according to state testing programs for those who want to obtain Russian citizenship, a work permit in Russia / patent, temporary residence permit, residence permit in Russia, and according to programs created in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Council of Europe and Association of Linguistic Testers of Europe (ALTE).

In addition to testing foreign citizens, the Pushkin Institute offers a unique system for testing knowledge of Russian as a native (state) language for professional purposes. The remote testing system allows you to automatically assess the level of employees who require good knowledge of the Russian language (secretaries, assistants, consultants, civil servants, etc.). The system is integrated into the international personnel assessment system, which is used by HR companies and personnel services

The Pushkin Institute maintains connections with international organizations (UNESCO, ALTE, Council of Europe) and with domestic structures whose activities are aimed at supporting the teaching and learning of the Russian language in the world. The main partners of the Institute in this mission are the Federal Agency for the Affairs of the CIS, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo) and the Russkiy Mir Foundation.

The Institute’s partners include more than fifty universities from around the world, including Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, Vietnam, Germany, Spain, Italy, China, Mexico, Mongolia, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, USA, Finland, France, Czech Republic, South Korea, Japan. Close cooperation with foreign universities allows us to implement large-scale international projects in the field of studying and promoting the Russian language and Russian culture throughout the world.

The Pushkin Institute is known in the world as one of the best universities where Russian teachers are trained, a center for creating new methods for teaching Russian as a foreign language.
