TIN in the Russian passport

Any citizen of Russia has the right to contact the tax authority and make a note on page 18 of the Russian passport indicating the TIN.

The presence of a TIN in a Russian passport allows you to simplify the procedure for confirming the compliance of information when preparing various types of documents and transactions.

A mark indicating the TIN in the passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation is made optional.

Since 1999, every Russian citizen who is a potential taxpayer is assigned an identification number (TIN). Obtaining a TIN is a voluntary procedure, however, the absence of this requisite may lead to some complications when concluding legal transactions or applying for a job. Therefore, you should know how to get an identification code and how to find out the TIN from your passport via the Internet.

An identification number is a clear sequence of 12 digits, the combination of which takes on a meaning depending on specific factors:

  • numbers 1 to 4 - indicate the code of the Federal Tax Service to which the citizen belongs, based on his place of residence;
  • numbers 5 to 10 – serial number of the tax entry in the accounting registers of the Federal Tax Service;
  • numbers 11-12 are control numbers and are calculated by tax authorities using a special algorithm.

The original purpose of the TIN code is to control the payment of mandatory taxes by individuals. Identification of taxpayers using personal data has been replaced by presentation of the Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) code.

Attention! The TIN of individuals for citizens carrying out entrepreneurial activities as an individual entrepreneur does not differ from the usual code assigned to a person by the tax service.

Every citizen of the Russian Federation, when applying for a new job, must receive a taxpayer identification number, or abbreviated TIN. To do this you need to go through a certain procedure. You can find out the TIN from your passport only if you have already received it from your tax office. It is not assigned automatically.

To obtain a paper version of the Tax Registration Certificate for an individual (TIN), a citizen must contact the territorial division of the tax service with an application in the established form (form No. 2-2-Accounting). You must have with you a document proving the identity of the applicant and confirmation of registration at the address of residence.

The regulations for obtaining a certificate of TIN assignment limit the period for issuing the document to five working days. In practice, a citizen can pick up a paper Certificate on the day of application, since the Federal Tax Service’s computer database usually has all the necessary information and the inspector only needs to print out the required document.

Attention! In the issued Certificate you can find out the TIN of an individual. So that the identification code is always “at hand”, it can be recorded on page 18 of the Russian passport. It is advisable to do this simultaneously with obtaining a TIN.

Similar actions can be done by contacting the nearest MFC. This government agency provides citizens with the service of issuing a TIN certificate.

A change of place of residence or personal data (last name, first name, patronymic) does not entail the need to change the TIN. The assigned code is assigned to the citizen for life. Only the Certificate form is subject to replacement, where the person’s new data will be indicated, but the TIN code itself remains the same.

  • Use special Internet services and find out your TIN online.

Attention! When receiving a duplicate TIN certificate, the taxpayer’s actions are identical to the procedure for the initial issuance of the document. In this case, you must pay a state fee of 300 rubles. You will not be able to find out the TIN by last name without a passport.

How to find out the TIN from a passport via the Internet

If a TIN was previously assigned to a citizen and he does not need a paper certificate, then you can find your identification code via the Internet.

This service, in addition to numerous intermediary resources, is available on the following sites:

  • official portal of the Federal Tax Service at the address – https://service.nalog.ru/inn.do;
  • single portal of public services– https://www.gosuslugi.ru/pgu/fns/findInn.

Important! Before you can find out the TIN from your passport via the Internet on official websites, you do not need to register or create a personal account. Information about the TIN is provided free of charge. At the same time, it is possible to find out not only your own TIN, but also the identification code of any citizen.

How to find out the TIN on the Federal Tax Service website

To obtain information about the assigned TIN, you need to go to a special section of the official tax service portal.

To submit a request, you will be asked to fill out a simple form that includes the following information:

  • personal data of an individual – last name, first name, patronymic;
  • place of birth (this information is optional);
  • type of identity document and its details - full number and date of issue.

First of all, you need to fill in the following fields:

You must confirm sending the request by entering a random set of check digits (captcha). If the Federal Tax Service database contains information about the assignment of a TIN to an individual and all points of the form are filled out correctly, then within 5-10 seconds the system will produce the result - the required identification number.

How to find out your TIN on the government services portal

A similar algorithm of actions is provided on the official web resource of government services. Here you will also need to fill out the proposed form listing your full name, passport data and a picture with random numbers. The only thing you will need to do is have an already activated account on the portal.

Important! You can find out the TIN (your own or someone else’s) not only from a passport, but also from any document identifying the identity of an individual. It is allowed to obtain information on a birth certificate, residence permit or passport of a foreign citizen. The required type of document is selected from the drop-down list when filling out the form.

Obtaining information about TIN by last name

Official resources do not make it possible to find out the TIN by last name without a passport. The exception is for individuals who have the status of individual entrepreneur or head of a farm. When conducting business activities, citizens are registered in tax structures like legal entities, and all information enters the Unified State Register.

For such individuals, it is possible to obtain information about the TIN without providing passport data.

The birth of a person is a joyful event for his parents. Also, such a citizen is already an individual. Due to this, he acquires certain rights and responsibilities both in relation to the state and to the surrounding society. The list of a person's obligations can be long, but it is important to remember that he also has an obligation to the tax authorities. And in order for these obligations to be better fulfilled by both individuals and legal entities, all people are assigned a Taxpayer Identification Number or TIN. This is a special code consisting of digital designations and special information that is indicated in the corresponding paper.

Currently, this paper can easily be issued via the Internet, or an individual can receive a ready-made paper at their place of residence.

How to check the validity of the TIN

Remember that all information recorded in the document is valid for life and cannot be changed.

What is TIN

This is a special A4 format form. It must contain the person’s full name, date and place of birth.

In addition, the paper must have a unique personal number of the citizen. Remember that for legal entities the document number consists of 10 digital designations, and for individuals it is equal to 12.

Where can I get a TIN?

The tax office at the place of residence of an individual is responsible for issuing the corresponding TIN certificates. For organizations, the issuance of corresponding TIN certificates is at the place of registration of the relevant organization. Types of TIN1. TIN 10-digit. This TIN is intended for tax registration of legal entities.

Types of TIN

  1. TIN of a legal entity.
  2. TIN of an individual.
  3. TIN of an individual entrepreneur.
  4. TIN of a foreign legal entity.

TIN decoding

TIN 10 digit

The first 4 digits of the TIN are the code of the division of the Federal Tax Service of Russia (SOUN directory), the next 5 digits of the TIN are the unique taxpayer number within this division of the Federal Tax Service, the last digit of the TIN is a control and serves to verify the correctness of the TIN entry.

TIN 12 digits

The first 4 digits of the TIN are the code of the division of the Federal Tax Service of Russia (SOUN directory), the next 6 digits of the TIN are the unique taxpayer number within this division of the Federal Tax Service, the remaining 2 digits of the TIN are control and serve to verify the correctness of the TIN entry.

Verification algorithm

For everyone who wants to find out their personal identification number, there are several ways:

  1. Direct contact to the Federal Tax Service branch at your place of residence (see how to find out your TIN through the Federal Tax Service). It is necessary to find out in advance all the necessary documents that may be required from you.
  2. Contacting the Federal Tax Service via postal services, by writing a written statement there.
  3. Checking the TIN of an individual online:
  • via the State Services website- https://www.gosuslugi.ru/pgu/fns/findInn;
  • Online- https://service.nalog.ru/inn.do and https://lk2.service.nalog.ru/lk/.

In order to obtain all the necessary information on these sites, it is necessary to complete the registration procedure and fill out personal data in your account.

Check sum

Before figuring out the process of calculating the checksum of identification numbers, it would be useful to decipher the numbers that are indicated in the TIN certificate:

  • The first 2 numbers are the code of the subject of the Russian Federation.
  • The next 2 numbers are the department code of the Federal Tax Service.
  • From 5 to 10 numbers is a specific and unique number of the counterparty in the division of the Federal Tax Service.
  • The last 2 numbers are control digits.

To determine the correctness of the TIN certificate, there is a certain mathematical algorithm that helps determine these same checksums by performing certain calculations.

To calculate a 12-digit ID number for an individual, there is the following calculation algorithm:

  • The final checksum is calculated by multiplying the previous ten digits of the number by the following coefficients - 7, 2, 4, 10, 3, 5, 9, 4, 6, 8, 0.
  • Next, the check number (a) is calculated. To do this, the resulting amount is divided by 11, and the remainder of this division will be this control number.
  • If this check number (a) turns out to be less than 9, then it must be calculated as the remainder of dividing the check number (a) by 10.
  • Next, we calculate the second checksum, which is carried out by multiplying the eleven numbers in the certificate by the following coefficients - 3, 7, 2, 4, 10, 3, 5, 9, 4, 6, 8, 0.
  • Then the check number (b) is calculated. To do this, the resulting amount is divided by 11, and the remainder of this division will be this control number.

If the resulting control number (b) is less than 9, then it must be calculated as the remainder of dividing the control number (b) by 10. Having found out both control numbers, it is necessary to check them with the 11th and 12th numbers, respectively. If they match, then the TIN certificate is correct.

To verify the 10-digit ID number assigned to legal entities, there is a slightly different algorithm of actions:

  • The checksum is calculated by multiplying the specified numerical values by the following coefficients - 2, 4, 10, 3, 5, 9, 4, 6, 8, 0.
  • The numbers multiplied by these coefficients are added together. The resulting value will be the checksum.
  • The checksum is divided by 11, and the remainder of this division will be the check number.
  • If this check number is less than 9, then it must be calculated as the remainder of dividing the check number by 10.
  • The resulting control number is checked against the last number indicated in the TIN certificate. If a match is found, then such a document should be considered genuine

TIN did not pass verification

Example:

  • Let's take the first identification number that comes across on the Internet: 526317984689 - 12 digits, which means that the TIN belongs to an individual (10-digit numbers are awarded to legal entities).
  • We multiply all numbers except the last two by the digital coefficients indicated earlier - 5*7 + 2*2 + 6*4 + 3*10 + 1*3 + 7*5 + 9*9 + 8*4 + 4*6 + 6*8 = 316.
  • Divide the resulting value by 11: 316/11 = 28.7.
  • Next, multiply the integer part of this number by 11: 28*11 = 308.
  • Then from the sum of all multiplied numbers, equal to 316, subtract 308: 316 - 308 = 8.
  • The resulting value will be the first check number (a).
  • Next, we multiply all numbers except the last one by the previously indicated coefficients - 5*3 + 2*7 + 6*2 + 3*4 + 1*10 + 7*3 + 9*5 + 8*9 + 4*4 +6*6 + 8*8 = 317. Divide the resulting value by 11: 317/11 = 28.8
  • We multiply the integer part of the resulting value by 11: 28*11 = 308.
  • Then subtract 308 from the sum obtained earlier: 317 - 308 = 9. This is the second control number - b. We compare the two check numbers a and b with the last two digits in the identification number.
  • As we can see, they completely match, which means that the TIN is genuine.

It is important to carefully check the TIN itself, because an error in the checksum can even be in one digit when entered.

This happens very often with TINs issued for legal entities.. The documentation for any product also indicates the supplier’s tax identification number, which may cause a discrepancy with the checksum verification. In such cases, you need to contact your local office of the Federal Tax Service for additional verification.

How else can you check your TIN?

To check the validity of the TIN of individual entrepreneurs, there are a number of services on the Internet:

  • Website of the Unified State Register of Individual Entrepreneurs ( USRIP) - egrip.su//reestr_egrip.html;
  • Website of the Unified State Register of Legal Entities ( Unified State Register of Legal Entities) - www.egrul.ru/inn.html.

On these resources you can obtain information of interest about the validity of a particular TIN certificate.

In addition, you can obtain the same information by visiting the local branch of the Federal Tax Service, where you can obtain an extract from the Unified State Register of Taxpayers.

In addition, there are several computer programs, focusing on determining the validity of the TIN. After downloading it, in the TIN number field you just need to enter the data that you want to check. The program will automatically check the identification number against all registration databases and provide a response to your request.

How can a stranger (another) person find out your TIN (check it for truthfulness and validity)?

To do this, any interested person can contact the local branch of the Federal Tax Service, where they can leave a request for such information, the so-called TIN tax audit. You just need to have the passport details of the person you are interested in with you.

After completing the application and paying the state fee, the information becomes available. The information itself about the identification number indicated in the TIN is not somehow secret or closed.

Therefore, anyone can get it, which is completely justified, because knowledge about the TIN of other persons cannot be used for any selfish purposes. Obtaining a TIN has become mandatory for all citizens since 1999, when the corresponding decision was made. Since then, the process of tax identification of all legal entities and individuals has been significantly simplified.

How to check your or someone else's TIN

Many simply do not remember their number, so in a situation where it is needed, they are forced to postpone solving any problem and look for or even restore a certificate.

Third parties who often need a stranger’s TIN are accounting employees who submit reports.

You must provide your Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) when applying for a job, but you must know the employee number when filling out documents.

Your own TIN

You can find out your TIN in several ways:

  1. View in certificate. If it is lost, you can restore the document at the tax office (the service costs 200 rubles for regular restoration and 400 if the document is needed the next day after submitting the application);
  2. Use the resource https://service.nalog.ru/inn.do on the website of the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation. It allows you to send a tax request and find out your number almost instantly. The only difficulty is that the resource often works with errors and you will have to make a request several times to obtain information. Therefore, it is better to set your browser to autocomplete.

After specifying your passport details, the system will assume that you are requesting your identification number and will provide the required information.

Most users do not have any problems when sending a request. The only thing you should be very careful about is confidentiality.

The above link will lead directly to the online services page of the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation, it is protected from leakage of personal data. But if you submit information through third-party resources without going to the tax office website, your data may fall into the wrong hands. This should not be done, even if the form for sending the request exactly replicates the Federal Tax Service form.

Someone else's (not your) TIN

This procedure should theoretically be more complicated:

  1. First, you need to make a request on the same site. The request form is more complex; it is necessary to indicate the type of applicant: legal entity, individual or public authority. After this, the request window is transformed so that the user fills in his data (passport data of an individual or complete data about a legal entity or government body and its head). After processing the request, the system will answer whether the person has an identification number;
  2. If the taxpayer is registered in the system, d Then you will have to visit the tax office in person. To obtain information about the number itself, you need to present an identification document, a document confirming the authority of the representative, and pay a state fee (100 rubles);
  3. Only after that You will find out the number you are interested in.

You can replace the first stage by contacting the tax office by mail (it is better to send a letter with a notification mark) or in person.

The request is sent in the same way and the state fee is paid. But there are no restrictions on the circle of persons who have the right to find out someone else’s TIN; all that is required is desire, availability of the necessary data and payment of the state fee.

In practice, having passport data in hand, accounting employees simply send a request on behalf of the employee or ask the employee to bring a certificate or provide a number.

There is no protection against a third party knowing your passport data obtaining your identification number. Although it is quite difficult to use the TIN for personal gain.

Sometimes a taxpayer number is needed precisely when there is no way to look it up on the certificate.

In this case, having access to the Internet and passport data, it is very easy to find out the TIN. Working with the service on the website of the Federal Tax Service of the Russian Federation is not particularly difficult: you just need to fill out all the fields of the request and wait until the system processes it. The number of requests is not limited, and the provision of information is free for the taxpayer himself.

Questions and answers regarding TIN

  1. Tell me, if I lost my tax registration certificate, will the tax office issue it again?

If you lose your tax registration certificate (TIN), you should contact the tax office at your place of registration, fill out an application for a duplicate and pay a fine, after which you will be issued a duplicate TIN.
