It sounds incredible, but before my eyes, simple advice from the authors of this book gave several extra years of life to a large number of people!

It sounds even more incredible, but the authors claim that we can double our life expectancy and slow down the aging process. Moreover, new technologies and knowledge that will be available in 20-30 years will reverse the aging process and give us all the chance to stay young and live forever! Even if you don't believe in this possibility or don't want to live forever, the prospect of being healthy, active and happy for as long as possible sounds tempting, doesn't it?

Unfortunately, in terms of life expectancy, Russians lag behind residents of other countries by decades. For example, in France, men live on average 15 years longer, and women 10 years longer, than we do.

I considered it impossible to significantly increase my life expectancy, or rather, I didn’t even think about such questions a few years ago. However, the book Transcend convinced me that the prospect of living 100-plus years is quite possible. Frankly, this figure looks much more attractive to me than the average 60–70 years. I really like living, and I want to see a lot, try and learn a lot. A prerequisite for this is to be of sound mind and good physical shape.

Why do people die so early, especially in our country? This will seem surprising to some, banal to others, but in any case it needs to be understood: the main reason is that we do not realize the responsibility for our health.

Most of us simply don't know that the biggest factor influencing our health, well-being and longevity are the simple choices we make every day: what we eat, how we respond to stress, how active we are. Add here whether we take into account our predispositions and, in general, how well we know our own genetic portrait.

Even if we realize that we are making poor choices every day, we do not understand what exactly needs to be changed to avoid health problems. Meanwhile, according to the World Health Organization, every year in Russia more than 80% of deaths occur due to cardiovascular diseases, cancer, respiratory diseases, and all of them are caused primarily by lifestyle.

According to the authors of this book, avoiding deadly diseases and doubling your life expectancy is quite simple. In this book, they talk about what modern science knows about the aging process and the occurrence of chronic diseases. And about how – armed with this knowledge and the latest technologies – you can easily and effectively adjust your life and health: reduce or eliminate the risks of developing diseases, slow down the aging process, and in some cases, stop them and even reverse them.

The authors do not just theorize: Ray Kurzweil is an inventor, futurist scientist, Terry Grossman is a doctor of medical sciences, founder of the longevity clinic. They are at the forefront of science, they are direct participants in information, scientific, and medical progress.

Unfortunately, most representatives of traditional medicine refuse to use modern knowledge and technological advances in treatment. That is why, in order to get the maximum benefit from the latest medical discoveries, which are quite accessible today, each of us must independently monitor our own health and be, in a sense, a doctor for ourselves.

Ray and Terry's advice made me radically change the way I think about my body and health. Several years ago, the book Transcend gave me the impetus to seriously study and then popularize a healthy lifestyle. All this was embodied in the launch of my blog Live up! on the pages of which I recommend this book to readers and often refer to its authors.

Their functional approach to diagnosing health conditions impressed my husband and I enough that we met Terry Grossman and my husband became a client.

I am very glad that thanks to the efforts of PROFI.RU co-founder Egor Rudi - one of those whose lives this book changed - it has now become available in Russian. The last thing we want is for you to treat this book as just another book about healthy eating and exercise. This book is much more.

Preface

Until very recently, healthcare and medicine developed haphazardly. We made discoveries without clearly understanding the principles of work. We know that this substance lowers blood pressure, but we have no idea why. We often "discovered" drugs with the desired spectrum of action, with many serious side effects in the bargain, but were unable to create drugs that precisely met our needs.

For example, in the mid-1980s, Pfitzer developed a new type of drug called Sildenafil. It blocked an enzyme that helps regulate arterial blood flow. It was hoped that blocking this enzyme would cause the arteries to widen and lower blood pressure. Sildenafil went through all stages of testing up to clinical trials in humans, but its effectiveness was not sufficient for release to the market. The researchers informed all patients that the trial had ended and asked that the samples they provided be returned.

Almost all women responded to the request, in contrast to a significant proportion of men participating in the study. Follow-up telephone interviews revealed that these men experienced a completely unexpected side effect. Today you probably know sildenafil under the brand name “Viagra”. The developers of Viagra weren't trying to invent a cure for impotence: they wanted to create a best-selling blood pressure treatment, but they were lucky enough to invent an incredibly popular drug that generated billions of dollars in revenue.

Medical discoveries that occur by chance are a typical occurrence. But today the situation is changing quite quickly. The completion of the Human Genome Project just a few years ago and the recent discovery of mechanisms that allow changes in gene function in adults have moved us from the old paradigm, where progress in health and medicine was impossible to predict, to a new one, in which health care turns out to be an information technology . Ray wrote in detail in his works that the key characteristic of information technology is its rapid, exponential development.

How often do you get sick? How many times a year do you have to visit a doctor because you feel unwell? In the modern world, even children from secondary school are ready to complain about poor health, not to mention the older generation. Poor environment, stress, decreased immunity and poor quality of nutrition - all this leads to the development of various diseases that shorten precious years. But from now on, existence without disease is not a myth, but a reality! Ray Kurzweil, together with Terry Grossman, in the book “Transcend: Nine Steps to Eternal Life” will change your understanding of health and modern medicine.

Never before have I read with such pleasure a book that contains a lot of medical definitions and scientific research!
But it seems that I am now at the stage that I am ready to absorb and absorb this information. I recently wrote about healthy and happy people at 50+, and Transcend became the fundamental theory on how to achieve this. It will also be an excellent continuation and deepening for those who have already read the book “The Other You”.

The book describes ways of eating and behavior that will help you be healthy.
I liked the emphasis on the fact that you should start with brain training: read, exercise, play logic games.
Well, where would we be without him? Without sleep. I need to establish it as one of the first steps towards a healthy lifestyle.
The book talks a lot about our internal states that occur in the body - what causes heart function to worsen, which hormones are the most dangerous and which are beneficial.

Well, once again I received confirmation that calorie counting is most relevant in establishing nutrition.

The Japanese principle “Hara hachi bu” is SOOO relevant to me! You need to reduce your stomach and the portion sizes you consume! "The stomach is 80% full." Once again, when sitting down at the table, the Japanese try to remind themselves that they cannot overeat, and by eating 20% fewer calories, they prolong not only their youth, but also their life.

The book describes a lot of research that will help you understand what you need to pay attention to. Of course, this is costly both in time and money, but if you are carried away and passionate about knowing yourself, then it’s worth doing something at least selectively.
There is a lot of talk about dietary supplements - dietary supplements. I have mixed feelings about them, but it was still an interesting read.
Part 2: “PLAN” describes clear instructions on where to start, what you can examine yourself (pressure, heart rate, for example), nutritional recommendations - with a description of all types of foods and their contents (proteins, fats, carbohydrates, glycemic index and etc.), the dietary supplements mentioned above - how to take and which ones, calorie optimization and exercise. There are examples in pictures.

Even in the chapter on nutrition and the next description of food compositions, I discovered America for myself :)) For example, the fact that the glycemic index and the glycemic load are different things.
The book contains a reference plate indicating both indicators. There is also an excellent pyramid that divides foods into low-fat foods, healthy fats, and those that are best consumed as little as possible.

Another interesting element in the book is the Reader’s dialogues with experts from the future. I liked reading the lyrical digressions, but I didn’t like the whole context, because... In addition to the fact that for the most part, even for these years, this is fantastic, it often also contributes to the fact that there will be many “helpers”, thanks to which physical activity, selection of proper nutrition, and preservation of health by the person himself can be “fertilized” "a tablet/nanorobot that will do everything for us.

I believe that the book is ideal for those who have already begun the path to a healthy and eternal life. I don’t know about the eternal one, but following the basic tips and recommendations in the book, you will definitely be able to improve your health! Even if you have just started thinking in the direction of a healthy lifestyle, changing your diet, or doing additional physical activity, you simply need this book. I want to be healthy and glowing at any age!

Read, eat right, exercise and be healthy!

About the book "Transcend: Nine Steps to Eternal Life" Ray Kurzweil, Terry Grossman

Longevity is real wealth, which, alas, is not given to everyone. The modern ecological system, the quality of food, the frantic pace of every day, the lack of rest - all this has the most negative impact on our health. Sports are not included in the list simply because it still occupies a significant part of many people today, because we all want to look good. But there is also one “but” here. There are different types of sports, and simply the desire to become pumped up can lead to health problems. In general, everyone decides for themselves what they need.

Transcend: Nine Steps to Eternal Life by Ray Kurzweil and Terry Grossman is incredible. This is a book that every person simply must read and have in their arsenal. You can find a huge number of works about a healthy lifestyle, but at the same time they miss some points and focus on something more.

Transcend: Nine Steps to Eternal Life doesn't just give you clear advice on how you can live to be 150 or more years old. All the facts cited by the author are scientifically confirmed. Health is not something that can be assumed or fantasized.

Ray Kurzweil and Terry Grossman write about how to lead your life correctly, how to exercise, what to eat. But most importantly, you will learn how to identify various diseases in the early stages, which doctor to go to in the end, what tests to take, what to eat, how to be treated. There's everything from A to Z about how to take care of your health. That is why the book will be extremely useful for young people, and for older people it should become daily reading.

The book “Transcend: Nine Steps on the Path to Eternal Life” also tells that modern technologies and breakthroughs in medicine allow humanity to forget about many diseases, because cures have already been found for them. And, it is quite possible that soon we will all really have the opportunity to live, albeit not forever, but for more than 100 years for sure.

Unfortunately, the modern system dictates such rules that only the strongest survive. There has always been competition, but today people are required to have real superpowers. He must not sleep, have a personal life, must work like a machine, constantly coming up with creative solutions, must be able to multitask. At first this is all real, but after a couple of years, between the ages of 23 and 25, we turn into old people who are constantly sick. And no one needs us like that anymore.

I would especially like to mention the food. In the working rhythm in which each of us is, it is very difficult to eat properly. When you come home late from work, you don’t want to cook anything healthy. At work, snacks - sandwiches, cookies, liters of coffee. Can the body withstand dry rations, and even those of dubious quality?

The book “Transcend: Nine Steps on the Path to Eternal Life” is a treasure trove of advice, recommendations, programs, research, and examples. You will be able to become more sensitive to yourself and your body, you will know how to eat in order to always feel good, which doctors to go to with this or that problem. But the important thing here is that Ray Kurzweil and Terry Grossman reveal the secret of longevity.

1. Talk to your doctor

Remember about disease prevention and undergo regular examinations. Prepare information about your medical history in advance: this will help you use the time of your visit to the doctor more efficiently. A thorough physical examination by a doctor can provide a lot of valuable information.

The comprehensive examination involves measuring not only height and weight, but also the volume of muscles and fat in the body. Do analyzes of the mineral composition of the hair, levels of vitamins, free radicals, extensive examinations of the cardiovascular system, as well as genetic testing.

If atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries can be detected at an early stage and active measures are then taken to treat it, then in most cases a heart attack can be avoided. Treatment (and often complete cure) of cancer is easier when it is detected early - before it has a chance to spread throughout the body.

2. Have a positive outlook on life, remember balance and don’t get stressed.

The evolution of physiological systems helped to effectively resolve issues of life and death in two ways: fight or flight.

Although life-threatening situations are relatively rare in the modern world, the fight-or-flight mechanism is still ready for action, and when not used to escape from a real threat, it is activated in response to everyday stressful situations.

From traffic jams and disobedience of a teenager to an upcoming interview with an employer and a drop in the Moscow Stock Exchange index - constant stimulation of the “fight or flight” mechanism without natural physical release can lead to a number of serious diseases. The key to successfully managing stress is to find a technique (meditation, exercise) that you know you will use. Learn, explore, experiment.

3. Perform regular self-examinations

Take care of your health yourself: conduct self-examinations so as not to miss the primary manifestations of diseases. Disease prevention is all about your lifestyle choices: diet, exercise, sleep, brain health, and stress management. Early diagnosis is mainly carried out by a doctor.

However, there are many procedures that you can perform at home yourself and preferably regularly. There are several components of a medical examination that are performed at home: self-examination of the genitourinary system, measuring blood pressure and pulse, calculating body fat content, waist-to-hip ratio, and checking physical development. Doing these studies regularly should become a habitual part of your life.

4. Nutrition is one of the main factors in maintaining health and youth

Poor nutrition harms your body and impairs your ability to respond to stress. Poor nutrition is associated with 13% of deaths worldwide. A healthy diet reduces your risk of obesity, heart disease, cancer and other serious illnesses and therefore helps you avoid the extreme stress that comes with these conditions.

Obviously, most people get too many calories from carbohydrates (from foods containing a lot of sugar), as well as from refined and high-glycemic index “white” carbohydrates: white bread, white rice, white pasta and especially potatoes. . All sources of calories are valuable, and it makes sense to eat a variety of each type of food.

It is important to drink healthy water. Tap water for drinking must be filtered. Both polyethylene and chlorine are necessary to preserve your food or water, but not to your body.

5. With proper nutrition and taking various dietary supplements, you can reverse aging

It has long been believed that a balanced diet was all you needed to get the nutrients you need for health. But our food is not as rich in nutrients as it used to be. Taking certain dietary supplements along with a balanced diet has been found to improve memory, lower cholesterol, prevent prostate problems, reduce menopausal symptoms, reduce inflammation and reduce the risk of developing cataracts.

For example, taking calcium and vitamin D may help prevent bone loss due to osteoporosis. And - according to average estimates - more than 130,000 hip fractures could be avoided each year if everyone over 50 took at least 1,200 mg of calcium per day.

What to take and in what dosages? It depends on who you are, what genes you have and what environment you live in. However, it is clear that often a person needs much more than the recommended daily intake.

6. There is nothing good about obesity: it is not only a source of stress, but also a threat to your health.

According to a report published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2002, weight gain of 20% above the optimal weight triples the risk of developing high blood pressure and type II diabetes, and also increases the risk of heart disease by 60%. .

To extend your life, reduce the portions and calories of your food.

People who are overweight or obese have an increased risk of stroke, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, and several types of cancer. Perhaps the main difficulty with weight loss is that most people perceive dieting as a temporary change in eating habits, a period of deprivation, followed by a return to a normal lifestyle when the extra pounds are gone. Such diets are practically useless. You can solve the problem by changing your diet for the rest of your life.

Sugar is killing us - the “white death”. You need to eat less of it, it’s better to avoid it altogether and give preference to a balanced combination of low-starch vegetables, lean protein foods and healthy fats.

7. To stay healthy, exercise is a must.

We are talking about both strength and cardio exercises.

A 7.5-year study of 16,000 male veterans found that exercise reduced the risk of death by 50% to 70% (depending on the amount of exercise performed).

Even though almost everyone understands the universally recognized importance of regular physical activity for health, only a few remain committed to it consistently. And the reason for this is one of the obvious and completely ignored facts: most people simply do not like sports.

But there is no doubt that the human body is designed for intense and regular physical activity. Today, a few simple changes can transform your workout from hard work into a long-awaited event. Exercise to increase your levels of endorphins, chemicals that produce a strong feeling of pleasure.

8. The future promises extraordinary breakthroughs in medicine.

And it’s not only worth looking at them, it’s worth using them to live another life.

Numerous genes cause diseases, aging, weight gain and other unwanted effects that we would like to eliminate, and today more than 1,000 drugs based on RNA interference are being developed and tested.

We also have effective methods for introducing genes using new forms of gene therapy.

For example, you can take a cell from the body and insert a new gene into it, then multiply it to make millions of the same cells, and introduce these genetically improved variants back into the body.

So, in the future we will see not only “designer children”, but also the descendants of genetically “improved” people, because we will be able to significantly change the genes of adults in order to improve health and slow down aging.

9. Stay away from toxins and limit their impact on your body

Every year, billions of kilograms of toxic waste enter the environment, seeping into the water we drink, accumulating in the food we eat, and carried through the air we breathe.

We cannot avoid exposure to toxins, but we can limit their influence by strengthening the body's defense mechanisms and freeing ourselves from their accumulation.

Use air purifiers, purify your drinking water, eat organic whenever possible, and stay away from electromagnetic radiation.
